Remy is playful, eager to please, food motivated and very intelligent. He absolutely loves other dogs and has made a lot of canine friends on daily walks. He would do great if he had a canine sibling and a fenced yard to play in. Remy is loyal and wonderful to his family. He loves running after a ball or a stick or frisbee and is learning to bring them back to his person. He also loves his toy collection and will go his basket of toys and pick something out when he is bored! We told you he is smart! He needs a slow introduction with strangers because people he does not know appear to make him nervous. He is crate trained and potty trained, and would make an excellent jogging or hiking companion. He knows basic commands like sit, down, shake, and he knows to wait patiently for his food at mealtimes. He is currently in a home with a kitten and the two of them get along great. If you are interested in this beautiful and active dog, please let us know. Thank you for your interest in Remy (formerly Caramel)! Story
Meet Poochie ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Poochie is a handsome, outgoing pup, who loves to play! This boy is super smart and affectionate. He knows many commands and is eager to learn more! Poochie loves long walks, swimming and just basking in a sun spot. Poochie has not been handling the stressful kennel life well and he's in dire need of a foster home or adopter. He's a med-high energy dog who loves long walks and swimming. He has lived with dogs before, but does best with slow intros and dogs that respect his boundaries. He would also be happy as the only pet so he could get all of your love and attention. Poochie is very affectionate and loves attention and would be a sweet companion to anyone looking to have the handsomest, loveliest pup by their side. He would do well with someone who has an active lifestyle. Poochie is in need of an experienced foster or adopter who will help him decompress from the stressful shelter environment. ESTIMATE WEIGHT FULL GROWN: 50 lbs KNOWN WITH DOGS: Poochie gets along with dogs but prefers to live with a dog that can match his vibe and would do fine as a solo as well. KNOWN WITH CATS: Poochie is not good with cats KNOWN WITH KIDS: Poochie is a little shy when people reach for his head. He also gets nervous when small children run, scream, or play loudly. Recommend he goes home with kids 14+. KNOWN COMMANDS: Poochie knows sit, down, paw, look, come, and he is working on 'spin' 'touch' 'wait' and 'leave it'. Poochie is treat motivated and he is eager to learn more. KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING: Poochie doesn't like hearing all the dogs bark so he doesn't appear to mind being in a crate away from other dogs and noise. KNOWN LIKES: Affection, treats, water, butt scratches, sand, playing with toys, and training KNOWN DISLIKES: Kennel life. He can be head shy and does not like people reaching for his head. ___________________________________ If you are interested in adopting this dog, please fill out our dog adoption questionnaire and e-mail any questions to: trailshomefarm@homewardtrails.org PLEASE VISIT THIS WEBSITE TO FIND THE ADOPTION QUESTIONNAIRE: http://www.homewardtrails.org/adopt-a-pet/adoption-forms/ LOCATION: Trails Home Farm, 2581 Winchester Rd, Delaplane, VA ADOPTION COORDINATOR: Trails Home Farm Staff HOW TO MEET THIS ANIMAL: All dogs located at Trails Home Farm are in Delaplane, VA and require an appointment for approved applicants to have a meet and greet. ADOPTION FEE: Poochie's adoption fee has been sponsored by Northside Veterinary Clinic, which means he's FREE! We thank Northside Veterinary Clinic for their generous sponsorship!! WAIVED! I'M PART OF THE REWARDS PROGRAM AND MY ADOPTION FEE IS WAIVED. WE WILL ALSO PAY MY FOSTER OR ADOPTER $500. HT has a number of dogs that need very special homes. These dogs have been failed by humans along the way, leaving them homeless and with issues from their treatment. We'll be honest. Some of them are real jerks. But not always. And not to everyone. Not everyone can be charming ALL the time, right? Others are just fearful and don't like other animals because they have had a bad interaction at some point. Some of them love other dogs but are just plain scared of everything. But all of them are good on the inside. And we believe that ALL of them deserve a chance at life and love. And we're looking to find the right human out there to make that happen. But competition is tough. And they're up against small, well-behaved doggies...so we are offering incentives for special humans willing to give these pooches a chance. WE WANT YOU! ***We are paying $500 to any approved foster or adopter of our REWARDS dogs.*** The human will also get ongoing training support, all supplies covered and a $25 Amazon gift card each month for 6 months. You will learn and grow. You will be doing a world of good for a dog who has really had it rough in life. ___________________________________ HT ADOPTION INCLUSIONS: Spay/Neuter First 3 distemper series vaccines and de-wormings Microchip - lifetime with no registration fees Current on heartworm preventative Current on flea/tick preventative EXCLUSIVE ADOPTER BENEFITS: Free first exam with: Caring Hands Animal Hospital, Palisades Veterinary Clinic, Jermantown Animal Hospital, Union Veterinary Clinic and Clarendon Animal Care and all VCA Animal Hospitals (VCA offers $250 coverage - details provided) Free online workshop with a professional dog trainer at Fur-Get Me Not within the first 30 days of adopting (in DC/Arlington/Alexandria only) A portion of EVERY ADOOPTION fee supports spay/neuter for animals in under-resourced communities. ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Sweetie is true to her name -- she's a sweetheart. She wags her tail whenever you smile at her and hobbles over whenever you call her name. She's on a weight loss program, but her extra poundage is not affecting her good spirits. She's a trooper on walks and navigating steps, and is so excited when she meets other dogs. She wants to play with all of them. She is quiet in the apartment and does not react to sirens, buses or other city noises. We are all rooting for her to succeed in her journey and can't wait for her to no longer struggle. We know there's an athlete hiding inside all of that Sweetie-ness. Zena is a wonderful dog! Here is what her foster dad told us about her: 'Zena has done great. She walks well in a leash, knows basic commands, is housebroken, gets along with my dogs fine. She loves being around people. She is a bit of a snuggler and her fur is incredibly soft. She rarely barks, except when startled (usually if my dog barks, she'll join in because she think something is wrong). Zena loves to play, whether it is tug-o-war, fetch, or play with the other dogs, she loves to be active. That said, she is not a hyper dog. When it is not playtime she happily will lay at your feet. She'll make a great companion to any person or family lucky enough to adopt her!' Thank you for your interest in Zena (Red)! Story
Meet Tazzie! Tazzie is a favorite among staff members at the Trails Home Farm. Tazzie is a sweet girl who needs time to open up to new people. Once she trusts you she is a HUGE cuddle bug and will seek out her trusted people for love and attention. It is so precious the way she asks for attention by nuzzling her head into your hand or leaning against your legs. She loves to play with toys and sunbathe in her kennel. Tazzie loves playing fetch with her rope frisbees or with her favorite ball, and I could definitely see her enjoying some agility training. BACKGROUND: She was adopted as a puppy but was recently returned for becoming very stressed when her family started having kids that were too young to understand how to respect her boundaries. KNOWN WITH DOGS: Tazzie can be dog-selective but has been in groups with other dogs while at the farm and previously lived with another dog. She is playful and sweet but likes dogs that respect her boundaries. She loves to run around and wrestle with her doggy friends. KNOWN WITH CATS: We have not seen Tazzie interact with cats, but she has high prey drive and may find living with cats to be difficult. KNOWN WITH KIDS: Tazzie would do best with kids 14+ who will respect her boundaries KNOWN CUES: Tazzie loves to learn and is very smart. She knows sit, spin, down, paw, wait, come, drop it, and is working on 'place' 'touch' KNOWN LIKES: People she trusts and attention, Playing fetch, KNOWN DISLIKES: People who don't take the time to get to know her on her terms. Tazzie prefers slow introductions with new people, but once she trusts you, you'll have a new best friend. ___________________________________ If you are interested in adopting this dog, please fill out our dog adoption questionnaire and e-mail any questions to: trailshomefarm@homewardtrails.org PLEASE VISIT THIS WEBSITE TO FIND THE ADOPTION QUESTIONNAIRE: http://www.homewardtrails.org/adopt-a-pet/adoption-forms/ LOCATION: Trails Home Farm, Delaplane, VA ADOPTION COORDINATOR: Trails Home Farm Staff HOW TO MEET THIS ANIMAL: All dogs located at Trails Home Farm are in Delaplane, VA and require an appointment for approved applicants to have a meet and greet.
