Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Fill out an Adoption Application Brief description: Likes: Playful dog friends, treats, hanging out in her crate, playing outside Dislikes: We haven’t found much she doesn’t like yet Personality: Polly is a wiggly gal who loves to play and is a total snuggle bug. She has a doggy friend at her foster’s home and there isn’t a play they won’t play together. She is friendly toward all people, affectionate and not vocal. She rides well in the car and is crate trained. She seems to have natural herding skills. Energy level: Middle energy with bouts of high energy (play) Favorite activities: Playing with her doggy friend (for hours and hours), racing around the yard, snuggling on the couch. She likes toys and treats and of course toys with treats (kongs). Good with cats, dogs, and kids (over 6)?: Foster has 4 kids aged 4-11 and she is wonderful with all of them, in fact she hasn’t met a human she doesn’t like and seek affection from! She is fabulous with her foster doggy friend and would like to have a dog friend at her forever home (preferred, not required). Not good with: (Cats? Dogs? Strangers? Men? Kids?) She is extremely curious about the cats in her foster home; cats are leery of her, strongly suggest a home without cats. Housetrained: Mostly Crate trained: Absolutely! Requires a fenced yard (physical fence and/or invisible fence)?: If owner is active a fence is probably not required. Walks well on a leash?:  Yes Challenges: Any Medical issues?: None known What would be the best kind of home?: A wide variety of homes would be a good fit for Polly. She is an easy going gal who would ideally have a dog friend to play with. A family with kids or an active single person would be a fine place for Polly. No cats would be best. Application Fees, Adoption Donations and Rescue Policy: Please know that 100% of our fees and donations pay for the costs of rescuing dogs. These include but are not limited to pull fees from shelters, veterinary examinations, vaccinations, medications and care, microchips, neuter/spay surgeries, heartworm treatments, behavior evaluations, and foster care, as needed. Important notes before applying. Adopters must have their primary residence in one of the following states: Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, and parts of North Carolina. Story
Meet Cookie!! He is as cute as a button! He came to HART extremely timid but has made tremendous progress. Here is what our trainer told us about Cookie: 'He is still a bit shy when he first meets you, but a cuter little man with so much personality it would be hard to find. This is NOT a super athletic, needs a ton of exercise little dog. This is going to be a little dog with a huge personality and a snuggly little potato who would love another confident dog in the home for company and to cuddle with. He does not need a super playful rough and tumble companion. What he really needs is a role model to show him the ropes. He is house trained, crate trained, walks ok on a leash (but really isn't into long walks at this point) a small yard would be ample. If interested in Cookie, please let us know. Thank you for your interest in Cookie! Please visit www.hart90.org/petdetail.aspx?ID=17156 to get the most up-to-date and accurate information on this pet, to email the contact person listed for more information and how to meet Cookie, or to submit an online application. ADOPTION FEE: $475 ABOUT GRACIE: Gracie came to us from a rural rescue partner. She was surrendered because her owner sadly has stage 4 cancer. Gracie has been struggling with shelter life and would really like to have a home, even a temporary home with a foster. We do the best we can to help all of our dogs feel comfortable, safe, and loved but there are is a lot of constant stimulation that can create a lot of stress for a pup. In the stressful kennel environment, Gracie does not like to be handled by strangers right away, needing to build trust first. Gracie struggles with being overstimulated with pets. She absolutely loves company from her people but would like breaks from being petted too much. Gracie LOVES to play fetch with her ball. She takes her ball everywhere! She will carry it from her kennel to the field and back again. It's her binky. When you start running, she will run with you because she wants to be by your side. Gracie has been in few playgroups with other dogs and she has done well. We will continue to introduce her to other dogs and will update her profile. She can walk calmly next to dogs, and she is a loose leash walk queen! Please give Gracie a chance. Come see for yourself how amazing she is by filling out an adoption application today. KNOWN WITH DOGS: Gracie does well with dogs with proper introduction. KNOWN WITH CATS: Gracie prefers not to live with cats. KNOWN WITH KIDS: If she were to go to a home with children, they will need to be 14 + KNOWN COMMANDS: Gracie knows how to sit, sit pretty, down, and working on place. She is amazing at fetch and has mastered "go long", "go low", and "jump". KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING: She is crate and house trained KNOWN LIKES: People, affection, treats KNOWN DISLIKES: Shelter life, loud persistent noise HT ADOPTION INCLUSIONS: Spay/Neuter First 3 distemper series vaccines and de-wormings Microchip - lifetime with no registration fees Current on heartworm preventative Current on flea/tick preventative EXCLUSIVE ADOPTER BENEFITS: Free first exam with: Caring Hands Animal Hospital, Palisades Veterinary Clinic, Jermantown Animal Hospital and Clarendon Animal Care and all VCA Animal Hospitals (VCA offers $250 coverage - details provided) Free online workshop with a professional dog trainer at Fur-Get Me Not within the first 30 days of adopting (in DC/Arlington/Alexandria only) A portion of EVERY ADOOPTION fee supports spay/neuter for animals in under-resourced communities BE A FOSTER: Save a life: http://www.homewardtrails.org/foster-a-pet/dog-and-cat-foster-program.

ESTIMATE WEIGHT FULL GROWN: 44 lbs KNOWN WITH DOGS: Good with other dogs but takes a little time to warm up KNOWN WITH CATS: Good! She completely ignores the cats in her foster home. KNOWN WITH KIDS: Winifred has been great with everyone she meets KNOWN COMMANDS: unknown right now KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING &/OR CRATING: she had not had a single accident in her foster home and can be left alone without a crate KNOWN LIKES: lying the patio, watching the world through the sliding glass door, relaxing on a dog bed near her people, pepperoni, cheese KNOWN DISLIKES: peanut butter ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Winifred is done caring for her 7 beautiful puppies and ready for a home of her own! Winifred is a sweet, affectionate, undemanding companion. She wants little more than to lie down near and get an occasional pet from somebody nice. And she thinks everyone she meets is nice. Winifred's house broken and well behaved inside, no need to crate train her. She doesn't seem to want to go on walks but enjoys padding around the backyard now and then. She ignores the cats in her foster home and after a week or so of some "stay away from me growling got used to being around the low-key dog residing there. She would make a wonderful dog for someone frequently at home who wants an easy going friend to hang out with. Story
Everybody loves Wesley! Wesley is a kind-hearted and energetic pup who loves to cuddle and play. Wesley loves playing with children, but may be a bit too much for smaller kids (5 years old or older is best). Wesley would do great in a home with a fenced yard where he can engage in his zoomies and play fetch. He does great on his walks around the neighborhood and would be a great hiking buddy. Wesley still has a lot of puppy energy, so he may need to be gradually introduced to other dogs.Wesley is learning his sit and down commands and is fully housetrained. He sleeps in his crate with no problems. He loves his chew toys and squeaky toys and is a great tug o' war player. He has a beautiful coat. Come visit Wesley at the next adoption event or contact us to set up a meetup! Thank you for your interest in Wesley G!
