Story
Maya (known as Sydney in her foster home of 4 months) is a beautiful, smart, gentle and sweet girl. She is very loving, playful, eager to please, and house-trained. She has a very short tail and when she sees someone she loves, her whole body wiggles! She is very intelligent and quickly learned the names of her various toys and often figures out what you want her to do before you even ask. She loves to be outside in the yard with her person and her canine buddy; walks in the neighborhood she likes, but walks in the woods she loves. She wants to be your best friend and do everything you ask, but sometimes the world is a little too scary for her. She can be slow to warm up to new people and places, and likes to have a "safe space" all her own. She is cautiously happy to meet most women and some men, but she is timid with older men. She therefore is unlikely to do well in a home that includes an older man, but would likely do well in a home with a younger man. Although she has had very limited exposure, she seems fine with children. She has been fine (but shy) with the cat in her foster home. She is initially timid around most dogs, but would probably do well sharing a home with a confident, playful dog, and as you can see from the videos, once she's comfortable with another dog, she loves to run and play! Maya will need a meet and greet before proceeding with an adoption. She was rescued by HART after being surrendered to a shelter; we don't know where she lived before that. She has made steady progress coming out of her shell, but will need a person(s) who has some experience with anxious dogs and will be very patient and loving with her. Questions About this Animal? Story
Current Location: Leesburg, VA Hi there! My name is Ozzy. I’m a handsome guy with a gorgeous set of eyes and a personality that’s even brighter. My foster mom says I’m the ultimate "people dog"—I’ve never met a stranger I didn't want to befriend! 🎾 The "Professional" Fetcher I might look like an Aussie, but I think I’m actually a Labrador. I am obsessed with tennis balls! I love playing fetch so much that I even insist on bringing a ball along on my walks. 🚿 My Favorite Things: Water Lover: Did someone say bath time? Whether it’s for me or for you, if I hear the water running, I’m jumping in! I’m the perfect buddy for anyone who doesn't mind a little bubble bath. Co-Pilot Extraordinaire: I love the car! I’ll jump right in the second the door opens. I’m such a cuddler that I actually have to wear a seatbelt to keep me from trying to sit in your lap while you drive. Social Butterfly: I get along great with other dogs and I love every human I meet. 🏃‍♂️ My Ideal Lifestyle I’m a high-energy boy who is looking for a partner-in-crime. If you’re a hiker, a runner, or have a big yard for zoomies, I’m your guy! 💁‍♂️The Nitty-Gritty: House Trained: No accidents in the house! Crate Trained: I love my crate; I go right in for a treat and settle down quietly. Health: Up-to-date on all vaccines and monthly preventatives. Still Learning: I still have some of that puppy spirit! Sometimes I get a little "mouthy" when I'm excited, but I'm easily redirected to a toy. I also like to jump up to say hello, but I'm working on my manners. I sound pretty awesome, right? I’m ready to find my "forever" adventure buddy! 💌 Adopt Me! Don’t wait—apply to adopt Ozzy today and let the adventures begin!

Story
Hi there! My name is Ray, short for 'Radar.'  That is because, you got it, my magnificent, perky ears!  I don't miss a thing!  Especially when I hear the sound of a hand reaching into a bag of my doggie treats.  I love running and playing with my foster sister so I would make a great companion pet. I also love my daily walks. I am working on gaining confidence when I'm out on walks and improving daily.  I am blind in my left eye, but I don’t reall notice it and it certainly doesn’t affect my ability to enjoy life or be a playful, loving dog. I do check the boxes for housetrained, dog friendly, kid friendly, all around people friendly and SWEETNESS.  Did I mention I sleep through the night! I warm up quickly when I first meet people and I love cuddles.  I have a heart full of love and wating for that person/family to welcome me into their home. Accuracy is not guaranteed; however, information provided is accurate to the best of our knowledge.  For more information on the pet, please send an email to info@aforeverhome.org February 15, 2026, 10:49 pm

Maple & Mixy! A perfectly balanced bonded pair looking for their forever home. Meet Maple Your calm, cuddly best friend wrapped in a fluffy red coat Maple is a gorgeous red bi female, weighing about 60 lbs, with an adorable nub tail, striking bi-colored eyes, and a soft, thick coat that practically begs to be pet. She has a gentle, loving soul and a calm presence that instantly makes you feel at home. Once Maple meets you, her sweet personality truly shines. Maple is the more mellow half of her bonded pair. While she enjoys running around and playing with her sister, she has a lower energy level and prefers meaningful time with her people over nonstop activity. She’s an affectionate certified cuddle bug who loves to sit next to you… or right on you if space allows. Personal space? Optional. She’s a dream companion — smart, food-motivated, and eager to please. Maple already knows sit, down, stay, and shake, listens well, and walks nicely on a leash. Toys aren’t really her thing, but she’ll happily chase a tennis ball if it means spending time with you. Maple is excellent with other dogs, confident when meeting new pups, and enjoys playing appropriately. She’s calm, social, and incredibly loving — the kind of dog that seamlessly fits into just about any home. Her cuddly nature, gentle demeanor, and steady confidence make her an absolute joy to have around. If you’re looking for a loyal shadow, a couch companion, and a heart-melting presence by your side, Maple is truly something special.

Story
❤️Cora is looking for a place to call home❤️ Cora is a spunky and lovable mini red-bi Australian Shepherd, estimated to be between 2-3 years old and weighing about 35lbs. She is being fostered in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Cora had a rough start before arriving at the shelter as a stray, but since coming into the rescue, she has truly blossomed. After being welcomed into ARMA, she quickly discovered the joys of indoor life, cozy blankets, a comfy bed, and the warmth of the fireplace. But what she treasures most of all is love. Cora is a velcro dog through and through and thrives on affection and cuddles, which help her continue to build trust and confidence. When Cora first arrived, she was battling an untreated ear infection, internal parasites, and heartworms. Despite everything, her spirit has never wavered. She is currently receiving treatment and can complete it in her new home. Cora loves to play! She’ll happily thrash her toys around while sprinting full speed through the house, and she enjoys bones, puzzles, lick mats, and long walks (though she could use some work on her leash skills). While she’s a medium-to-high energy girl, she also has a great “off” switch and will gladly curl up beside you on the sofa for a nap after a good play session. She is both crate and potty trained. Cora absolutely adores her people and is a fan favorite with most adults she meets. However, she would do best in a home without young children or other pets. Her foster is working with her on basic commands, resource guarding, and some reactivity, which she is making steady progress on. Cora will need an experienced, committed adopter who understands the importance of continued structure, consistency, and positive reinforcement training. With patience, guidance, and a dedicated family, Cora will have so much love to give. In the right home, she will blossom into an incredibly loyal, devoted, and deeply bonded companion.
