Story
3 years old (estimated) Neutered Male No known experience with other dogs, cats, or kids More information coming soon! The online adoption listing websites require that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We encourage you to select your new companion by considering each dog's individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on a breed label that is only a guess.December 4, 2025, 4:36 pm

Story
Caramel is a 10-month-old Heeler mix who’s as sweet as his name. This smart, affectionate boy came to us as a stray through one of our puppy mill contacts and has been working hard to learn about the good life. He’s incredibly bright, food-motivated, and eager to please — he just needs a calm, structured home to help him shine. Like many young herding breeds, Caramel didn’t get much direction early in life, but he’s already showing how quickly he can settle and focus with a gentle hand and clear guidance. The shelter has been overwhelming for him, and we’re watching his stress grow — this boy desperately needs a break. Caramel would thrive as the only pet in the home, where he can build confidence and soak up all the love and attention he’s missed out on. With a patient foster or adopter willing to show him the ropes, Caramel is going to be a truly fantastic companion. ✨ Can you give this sweet, sensitive soul the stability and comfort he’s been waiting for? All of our dogs are dewormed, spayed/neutered, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, and heartworm tested if they are old enough. If you're interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website at https://www.sftsrescue.org/adoptable-dogs

Story
About Me: Name: Bootsie Breed (or best guess): Heeler or Kelpie mix Approximate Age: 2 yr Gender: Female Approximate Weight: 30 lb Adoption Fee: $495 Requirements: Loving Family Why In Rescue: Owner Surrender Profile:  Bootsie is in a foster home as she was very scared at the shelter.  We have learned that she really prefers men over women, and likes dogs better than people.  She is very well trained.  Walks great on a leash and is housetrained.  Bootsie will need a patient adopter especially for the first couple weeks of getting used to a new home.  She has tons of potential, just needs to learn how to interact with people instead of just other dogs. Bootsie was a well loved girl in her family but when a family member passed away some of the dogs in the home needed to find new homes.  Bootsie is a smart girl that knows some commands and tricks, but she  is shy and sad to be in a shelter.  With some time in a home, we are sure she will flourish.  We don't know how she is with children, but did live with a variety of other dogs. She seems to know how to walk on a leash and tries to keep her kennel clean.  If interested in Bootsie, please fill out the preadoption application. We do put the needs of the dog's first, so it is nothing personal if we determine a particular dog isn't suitable for your specific home and living situation. If considering adopting a former breeding dog, the following article is good to read to help you understand the special needs these dogs may have.  http://nowisconsinpuppymills.com/mill-survivors.html If interested in adoption, the first step is filling out the pre-adoption application at http://www.bichonrescues.com/pre-adoption-form-dog  If link isn't clickable, please copy/paste or visit http://www.bichonrescues.com.  Please note, filling out inquiry forms on Petfinder or Adoptapet and/or their application forms does not constitute an application for one of our dogs.  Priority in responding to inquires and applications is always to the applications filled out on our website, time constraints limit the number of other inquires we can reply to. We do our best to evaluate the dogs while they are with us, but they sometimes act different in the shelter environment than they do in a home.  Many times we do not know the actual breed/mix or age of the dog, in that case we use our best guess as to breed and age.   We are located in Mukwonago, WI.  Adopters must come to us, we do not ship our dogs.  Please do not apply for a dog until you are ready to adopt.  Once an application is approved you will be notified by email to make an appointment to meet the dog.  All dogs are seen by appointment only. The adoption fee through Bichon and Little Buddies Rescue is $495 for most adults and up to $650 for puppies which includes Wi State Sales Tax.  Included in this fee is your new companion who will be spayed/neutered, have a current Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (as required by state law), current on age appropriate vaccinations, heartworm tested (if old enough) and started on preventative, microchipped, and given a general wormer.  Other medical needs will also have been taken care of, such as dentals and treating ear infections.  To assist you and your new pet in adjusting to life together, you may chose to take an 8 week age appropriate obedience training course at For Pet's Sake Dog Training in Mukwonago, WI for $100 (up to $260 value).  You may opt to take Puppy Kindergarten, Adult Beginners, or Small Dogs Big Hearts.  You must register for the class within 90 days of adoption for the reduced fee.  For more information on the classes visit www.forpetssake.cc  More important information: ***We are a Wisconsin based rescue and do not ship our pets.  If you are considering adoption you must be willing to drive to meet and adopt the pet, as well as bring the pet back to us if the adoption doesn't work.  We adopt primarily in WI and IL, but will consider applicants in MN, IA, and MI.*** ***Please do not set up an appointment to meet the animals until you are ready to take your pet home.  If the meeting results in a match, you can often take the dog/cat home the same day or within a couple days if the medical care hasn't been completed.  We are not able to hold pets for adopters beyond this time.  Thanks for understanding.*** ***While we hope all of our adoptions lead to permanent homes for the animals we place, sometimes things just don't work out.  We do have a 30 day trial period.  For the first 30 days, if you or Bichon and Little Buddies decide that the adoption isn't a good match for either the humans or the pet, the adoption fee will be refunded minus $100 within 30 days of the return of the dog.  Bichon and Little Buddies also requires adopters to return the pet to us at any time that they are unable or unwilling to care for the animal anymore.*** ***We do not show dogs without an appointment.  The first step in adoption is filling out the pre-adoption application at http://www.bichonrescues.com/pre-adoption-form-dog  Please do not call/email until AFTER you have filled out an application.*** Bichon and Little Buddies is a State Licensed Rescue # 268555-DS November 20, 2025, 4:19 pm

Story
Meet Tabitha! This adorable little girl has been in Wisconsin now for nearly a year :( We've learned so much about her during this time we just know the perfect home is out there for her! She prefers the company of women, and love to hang out with other dogs. Shes quite the snuggler in bed if you let her sleep with you, or she's totally fine hanging out with other dogs to snooze. She enjoys her time outdoors and does best in a home with a fenced yard. She currently is in a foster home on a farm and enjoys all things farm related! Tabitha will do best in a home with herding breed experience! She might need more than one meeting to warm up to you, but once she does, you are her friend for life! Please help us find the perfect home for Tabitha! She's one of a kind! **Our process includes an approved application, reference checks, a homevisit, and once approved a meet and greet with the dog. Please do not apply if pets in the home are not up to date per our website requirements or are not altered. Wisconsin applications are priority, but Illinois applications will be considered if no small children are present in the home, the home is owned, and excellent vet reference can be provided. We cannot process applications from other states. Adoption fee is $350 unless otherwise noted above. Puppies under 1 year of age accept application for families with children over 6 years of age for large breeds and over 8 years of age for small breeds. Since they are still puppies, dogs under 1 will require a basic obedience and puppy training class, and spay/neuter at the owners expense.
