Story
Meet Gunner! Gunner is a 4 year old Aussie/great Pyrenees mix. He is around 75 pounds current on vaccinations, neutered, and on prevention. Gunner is the biggest goofy love bug of all time! Gunner can be people selective so proper introductions are necessary. Once he knows you he is your best friend forever! Gunner says his Furever home would need to have a big fenced yard because he loves to run and be goofy especially when is chilly out! His forever home also needs to be one without children or cats as they cause a lot of commotion that makes him uneasy. Gunner loves walks and to play tug with anyone that will play with him. He is very vocal and talks to you when he wants to engage which is super cute. Gunner is currently fostered with his trainer and would need to stay somewhat local to Auburn GA. Gunner is picky about the dogs he wants to play with so best he was the only dog or a calm female could work in his ideal home. Gunner has been though a lot in his 4 years and is looking for new positive adventures. Gunner is super active and needs his person to be as well!!!! If you think that Gunner is the perfect dog for you, please fill out our application: https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application All adoption fees are used for future rescue efforts.

Rocky is an active working dog who would do best in a home that can provide both physical and mental stimulation on a daily basis.  He is a super smart boy and bonds very strongly with his owner. Sometimes that can get him into trouble as he thinks he should have ALL that person's attention. Rocky needs a strong owner who will set boundaries and train with him.   We will not place him in a home with children due to his strong herding instinct.   He would be a good sport dog prospect and will make an amazing best friend for the right person!  ##1663471##

Goose is a 1.5 year old Australian Shepherd and Border Collie mix. We received him from a friend who trains dogs. He knows the commands Sit, Stay, Wait, Down (lay down), Come, Off (get off furniture or people), and Go to Bed. He is crate trained, house broken, leash trained, and has been trained not to get on the couch or bed. He is a sweet friendly dog who loves activity and people. Goose needs a family with older children that can play and run around with him or a family that is very active and willing to take him along for the ride! He loves a great game of fetch and to go on runs or walks.

Apply here: http://athenscaninerescue.com/adoption-procedures/ Introducing Rain, our cute little wobbly friend! Rain is currently around a year old and weighs in at just about 35 pounds! Anyone who meets our sweet Rain can see that he is a special boy! You may notice that Rain walks a little differently than most puppies his age - he’s quite clumsy! A complete neurological and orthopedic evaluation at the University of Georgia didn’t show any specific abnormalities, so it is likely that Rain was born with several congenital issues that resulted in his quirky walk. He used to have some issues in the pottying department as well, but these are well controlled on a specific diet. At this time, Rain does not need any special medications or therapies to treat his unique condition. Just lots of love! Housebreaking, Crate-Training, and Commands Rain is currently working on both house and crate training. He needs a proper routine in order to not have accidents in the house, but manages to keep the house dry if he is taken out on schedule! It seems he has a grasp that potty = outside, but sometimes, he just can’t help himself, which is totally normal for a puppy! As far as the crate goes, that one is a bit easier. He will cry for just a bit reminding you that he’s there, but once he’s settled he’s good to go! He currently stays in the crate at night, for all his meals, and if his foster family goes out! Behavior around other Dogs, Cats, and Kids Because he’s a puppy, life's a breeze for Rain! He is curious and fun, and will play, play, play if you let him. He’s been around children from ages 3-14 and overall, he’s great other than some puppy nibbles. Chasing cats is a fun game, but will quickly stop if he’s corrected by the cat (or human!) And as far as other dogs go, he loves them! But he is a little too amped for playing so he may get on an older dog's nerves and have to be taught the house rules. Rain would not be a good candidate for a dog park because of his health needs, but would likely do well with trusted dogs in a private park setting! Behavior around People + Exercise Needs Rain is by all accounts your typical puppy. He loves to play! He loves people and is so friendly! Rain especially loves snuggles once he’s got his energy out! He’s not demanding about attention though and will leave you alone if you aren’t up for it in the moment. Rain is a hop, skip, and a sideways run (literally) away from being yours! Contact us today! If you’d like to be considered to adopt, the first step in the process is to submit an application through our website: http://athenscaninerescue.com/adoption-procedures/. Our adoption fee is $250 per dog over the age of 6 months and $300 per dog 6 months or younger. We accept payment by Venmo, PayPal, or card. This includes: basic vet care (i.e. basic vaccinations, including boosters completed after adoption, spay/neuter, heartworm/flea preventatives, and treatment for any health needs while in our care), a microchip, a week’s worth of food for the trial-period, and a harness lead. All in state applications will be considered with some preference given to more local applications. WE ARE NOT ACCEPTING OUT OF STATE APPLICATIONS FOR DOGS SIX MONTHS OR YOUNGER. We do not have a facility and operate through a network of foster homes. Thus, we do not have a phone number. If you’d like to discuss potential adoptions, please email at adopt@athenscaninerescue.com.

Story
Dexter, our darling dynamo! Searching for an extremely eager, especially athletic, exceedingly eager to please, exceptionally cuddlesome loveable huggable Aussie? Meet Dex. Let's get to it. Dexter is an approximately 2 year old, 45 pound, bobtail red merle Aussie mix. *Top level energy and athletIC potential-CHECK. *Top tier responsiveness and heart-CHECK *Top shelf snuggle factor-CHECK Dexter's Forever is going to get a Best Buddy, adventure partner and be the recipient of ALL his focused affection. Dexter and his Coach Bestie are going to have such F U N together! The dynamo's intensity and speed make participating in agility or lure chase (Fast CAT-100 yard course dash) possible. Dexter came to ASA from a family who didn't have what a dynamic Dex needed to give him his best life. He just wasn't given engagement and enrichment opportunities. Fortunately, he has been with an experienced, hands on Foster Mom who has given those opportunities and guided him through the anxiety the lack created. Structured activities or classes will help Dex and Best Bud will continue to bring out this sweet boy's Dex best. A couple of more things to consider: Dexter does fine in his crate (maybe a protest or two but soon settles down). He's getting the idea to wait until signaled to enter and exit. The happy herder's enthusiasm carries over into love leaps and greets-working on it though. Foster Mom spends time daily with Dex-having fun learning "sit", "down", "wait" to be called. "Place" too has been a great resource command for him (you go to your spot/happy place and hang there). Treats incentivize. What else? Oh! The dude enjoys outings in the car, or walks. Leash training is still in process. Dexter is Aussie aussome and deserves a likeminded active, enthusiastic herding/working breed experienced Best Buddy who wants to try new things with their doggo and see how far they can go together. Adventure seeker? Dog sports? Exuberant outlook? Cuddle and kiss rewards! Since the dynamic dude loves to race and romp with his Foster pooch playfellows (of different sizes), he'd love a family with a pooch pal or two. An enclosed fence is preferable, though it may not be necessary for the right home. Since Dexter's jump up welcomes are still a work in progress, dog savvy kiddos 8 and up would enjoy him most. Multiresidential buildings (such as apartments) are not a good fit for this boy. Our adopters give their new family member time to decompress, grow familiar with the new environment/routine and invest time to train. They're committed to slow monitored introductions with new people, especially children, other animals, and places.  Dex wants you to know: "I'm ready to go and live life to the fullest with you. I'm looking for Forever." If you are Dex's Bestie, please fill out an application at the link below to be considered as a possible adopter. (Only COMPLETELY answered applications will be considered.) https://www.emailmeform.com/builder/form/dDNce9yr0ChU0F -Fostered in IL, near St.Louis, MO. *Read the bio carefully. Priority is given to the pup's needs in choosing the adopter to ensure a Happy Forever. Transport help available for many dogs to many states depending on dog's best interest. *The breed/mix assigned to this dog is based on appearance and/or traits, not from a DNA test. Adoption Fee: $325

Story
Sabrina is an amazing dog who just needs someone willing to work with her. She is amazing with children (just needs work on being too excited around small children but has gotten much better with our fosters 2 year old)  She is most definitely mixed with a working breed - she needs consistent exercise to be a calm house dog and will become destructive if her mind isn’t stimulated. She absolutely loves sniff walks and fetch to wear her out and work her brain.  She will need a more involved owner who understands her needs. She has a lot of allergies and our vet believes her skin issues may just be a chronic life long struggle. She is taking 1/2 an apoquel a day and her foster supplements with calming treats and allergy/immune boost treats daily. We have not done an elimination diet to determine exact allergies, but she is currently eating Rachel Ray Limited Ingredient (Just 6 depending on bag design/store) Lamb flavor and has been doing better!  She still has bald spots and flare ups if the weather is bad or she gets stressed out. We’re working on determining when it happens to try and eliminate the flare ups so her hair can grow back fully. Currently all 4 shoulders have some degree of baldness and occasional bumps from her chewing, but I’ve been keeping sweaters on her and the calming treats to try and get her to leave the area alone long enough for the hair to grow back.  She’s got some unique quirks that make her even more special! She is  described as being cat like - she absolutely loves to be up high looking over everything. When outside, she can be found hopping onto the patio table to look in windows or take a nap. She’s also been caught napping on top of book shelves or any surface big enough to hold her body and she’ll curl up like she’s meant to be there!   She has no fear when it comes to humans, but can be skittish in the house when it comes to switching rooms or entering/exiting like she’s unsure what will come from the other room. She does alright with other dogs in neutral territory, but does resource guard her food, kennel, and occasionally the fosters sun room if she can see the other dogs filtering in and out while she’s hanging out in there. However, she responds incredibly well to correction and is eager to please! With or without treats, she loves to practice new skills and is working incredibly hard to be calm in the house! She still has trouble channeling her energy some days if she hasn’t had enough stimulation, but you can see how hard she tries to maintain composure during training sessions!  She’s a work in progress, but her personality and temperament are perfect for someone looking for a loyal dog that’s willing to do anything from cuddle on the couch to adventure with them!   https://www.pupandcatco.com/Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.We do not have a shelter facility and our pets are housed in foster homes, vet clinics and local boarding facilities. Story
Meet Cooper and Granite! This bonded pair chose each other as lifelong buddies while being fostered many moons ago. They are seniors now at about 11 years old, but both health and activity wise you’d never know it. Before you read on and fall in love with one of them…please know they MUST stay together. No exceptions…it was a promise made to their owner before she passed a year ago. They have been with their original foster mom since then. She is having to rehome them due to new care for family and family dogs. Let’s start with Granite, who is basically the perfect dog! She’s sweet, and shy, so very gentle and humble. Totally housetrained. Cooper. Well, he’s Cooper and he’s special! He is such a goofball and can be opinionated when he’s ready for food. Or to get in your lap. Or to give you kisses. Unfortunately, Cooper cannot be around cats and he’s dog selective, although Granite loves everyone and everything. But again, they MUST stay together. These two dogs are as special as their human was. Cooper has a few isms, but don’t we all?! They do need a minimum 5-foot fence that is absolutely secure along the ground. They have been known to be escapees, but treats every time they come in and some managed and/or limited time outside has addressed that. They are both good on the leash and love LOVE to go on car rides. The person or people who get to adopt this awesome pair will find their life very enriched indeed…they are just so…stoic and loving and fun. We are unable to answer every email.  If you are interested in our pups, please fill out an application and we will contact you.  Thank you for your patience and understanding while we receive quite a few applications on our dogs and have to match each one carefully for their safety and what we feel will the best fit for the pup.   Visit our page at www.pupandcatco.com Please consider signing up for recurring donations on our website https://www.pupandcatco.com/donate/ Thank youVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.We do not have a shelter facility and our pets are housed in foster homes, vet clinics and local boarding facilities.
