Story
We will be picky, we love this dog.Adopted from Iowa. Mother was Aussie, father unknown. We have had six WONDERFUL years with Suki but we now have three young children and don’t have the time and energy Suki needs. We are looking for someone who can fill the last half of suki’s life with as much joy as the first half. Pup cups, fetch, swimming (she loves water), snacks, snuggles, teaching new tricks, smelling new smells. We know every dog owner thinks their dog is smart but this dog was able to use the recorded talking buttons to ask for what she wants.PROS: Loyal: might roam around but will not run away. Does not dig holes or destroy things. Reasonable recall/obedience. Leash trained: minimal pulling on leash. CONS: Separation anxiety: Will bark if left in a room alone or in a crate. Not suitable for 9-5 in a kennel. Anxious around other dogs. Refuses to potty outside during rain: will hold it or go inside (otherwise house trained). Food stealer.

DOB: 10/16/25                         Current Weight(as of  6/16/26): 39 Lbs Adoption Fee: $275 includes 2 week trial to ensure everyone's happiness.   Meet Pickles – A One-of-a-Kind Beauty!   Looking for a best friend who is equal parts playful, loving, and gorgeous? Meet Pickles! This sweet girl is approximately 10 months old and is ready to find the forever family she's been waiting for.   We believe Pickles is a Labrador Retriever/Australian Shepherd mix, although she could also have a little Husky in her family tree. Since she came to us from a small rural Missouri shelter, we can't be certain of her breed or exactly how big she'll be when she's fully grown. Our best guess is that she'll mature into a medium to medium-large sized dog—a wonderful size for just about any family!   Whatever her breed mix may be, one thing is certain—she is absolutely stunning! Her beautiful mismatched eyes, one warm brown and one brilliant blue, are sure to steal your heart.   But Pickles is so much more than a pretty face. She has a wonderfully sweet personality and genuinely loves people. Whether she's making new friends or soaking up attention from her favorite humans, her happy, affectionate nature shines through. She also loves playing with the other dogs and would enjoy having a canine companion, though she'd be just as happy being the center of your world.   Like any growing puppy, Pickles has plenty of playful energy and would love a securely fenced yard where she can safely run, play, and explore. She's still working on her house training and will need a family willing to continue teaching her with patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement.   If you're looking for a loyal companion with a heart of gold, a playful spirit, and unforgettable eyes, Pickles just might be the perfect addition to your family. Come meet this beautiful girl—you'll fall in love with those striking eyes and her sweet personality the moment you meet her!  Puppies are NOT housebroken and should not be expected to wait more than 1 hour for each month of age to go out to potty. Please make sure that you have a “potty plan” in place if considering adoption. All of our puppies have been spay/neuter, wormed, microchipped, and given age appropriate vaccinations. If you are interested in meeting/adopting one of them just fill out a application at www.furrykidsrefuge.org, click on the 'Adopt A Dog' icon and a dedicated volunteer will be in touch.  Furry Kids' Refuge is in need of good quality dog and puppy food with meat as the first ingredient.  You can drop off donations at our weekly adoption events at the Lee's Summit Petco (1860 NW Chipman Road, Lee's Summit, MO), Saturdays only from 11am to 2:00 p.m.  Donations are tax deductible as allowed by law.  Would you like to foster a Furry Kid? Furry Kids' Refuge will supply the food & vet care while you supply the basic house rules & love.......win-win for all!!  Just visit our website http://www.furrykidsrefuge.org/category/fostering/  for more information. Thanks for your support! Story
Approx. DOB: 11/15/24               Weight as of 5/27/26: 35 Lbs Adoption Fee: $250 includes a 2 week trial to ensure everyone's happiness! Skylar is a beautiful Aussie/Pit Bull mix with the most striking baby-blue eyes. She came to Furry Kids after her previous owners were no longer able to care for her. When Skylar first arrived, she was extremely fearful and had very little socialization. She was  unsure of people. Over the past year, she has made incredible progress thanks to the patience and dedication of her foster family. While she still isn't the type of dog who eagerly runs up for treats or affection, she has learned to trust the people she knows and accepts gentle pets and love on her own terms. Watching her slowly gain confidence has been incredibly rewarding. Skylar is still very timid with new people and will need an adopter who understands that trust cannot be rushed. She continues to attend our Saturday Petco adoption events to help build her confidence around new people and new environments. Every positive experience helps her take another step forward. She has done well meeting other dogs and enjoys their company. Larger dogs, especially those with rough play styles, can make her feel overwhelmed, so she prefers calmer canine companions who respect her space. A patient, confident dog in her new home could help continue teaching her that the world isn't such a scary place. Skylar is crate trained and does well in her crate. She thrives on routine, patience, and gentle encouragement. Skylar isn't looking for a family that expects an instant best friend—she's looking for someone who will celebrate the small victories. The first tail wag, the first time she chooses to come closer, the first time she truly relaxes beside you—those moments are priceless. If you have a quiet home, a patient heart, and are willing to let Skylar blossom at her own pace, you'll have the privilege of watching one of the most rewarding transformations imaginable. Could you be the person who helps Skylar write the next chapter of her story? I have been spayed, vaccinated, heartworm tested negative and microchipped.  If you are interested in adopting me, please complete the adoption application located at www.furrykidsrefuge.org/adoptadog and a dedicated volunteer will get back to you as soon as possible. Story
Indy is a border collie mix, 5 years old, raised from a puppy and well cared for her whole life. Great with families and comfortable both indoors and out—she's happy camping, fishing, hiking, or just walking the neighborhood. Knows her basic commands, settles in easily, and enjoys lounging around the house as much as being active outside. She's very people-oriented and pays close attention to what you're doing, often anticipating your next move. Affectionate by nature, she loves pets and belly rubs and would happily cuddle all day given the chance. We're looking for a family who will appreciate her for who she is and give her the same love and care she's had for the last five years.

Story
Nami is a very smart, excitable, and loving dog. She is crate trained and has never been destructive to anything but her toys and tends to just lazy around when inside the house. She will fetch all day long and loves cuddles. The best I can describe her is that she can read the room if it’s chill time if it’s playtime if something is hers or not ect. She would be a good fit for a family with no children or other (large) dogs as she is reactive. She seems more okay with small dogs. She is protective of her humans when out and about or on walks (growling and barking). Also may be some leash aggression as we’ve noticed she does better when less restricted. She resource guards with treats like bones or kongs. She does not like if you reach into her crate while she is in it. Her triggers are pretty easily avoided most of the time and we think with lots of exposure she would be great with anyone (dog, cat, roommates, ect.) but she has a long trust building period.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Please contact Virginia (virginiak@tarasdream.org) for more information about this pet. Please visit our web site at https://tarasdream.org/adopt to fill out an adoption application for this pet and for more info about our adoption process.    Mango has been in her foster home for a short time and the reports are glowing!  She is the perfect mix in many ways - perfect mix of chill and energy, perfect mix of independence and affectionate and then, of course, the perfect mix of breed!  Mango gets along with the resident dogs and cats in her foster home and that makes her an easy intro into many homes.  She is truly an all-around great dog.   Since many folks are interested in back stories, Mango came to TARA after being found as a stray at an area shelter.   Staff realized that she’d stayed there previously and, upon contacting the adopter, learned that she’d been given away.  TARA stepped in to find her forever family.  With regard to her unique eye, Mango has scar tissue in anterior chamber behind the cornea of her right eye, likely due to an old trauma. At this time there is no recommended treatment. Her vision is impaired and could be blind in that eye. Her family would just need to be aware that she needs to be set up for success with her limited sight and know she is a bit head shy.   Mango is well behaved in the house and sleeps in a kennel through the night without a peep.  She walks well on a leash but may pull if she sees a squirrel or another dog.  She would love a fenced yard to explore and another playful dog in the home, but as easy going Mango truly is, these are just nice to haves.  She will fit in anywhere and be your best friend!  Please contact TARA today if you would like to meet Mango. Approximate Birthdate:  Sept 2020 Adoption Fee: $200 TARA's adoption fee includes: spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, heartworm test (if age appropriate), heartworm and flea prevention, and deworming.  TARA's pets are all eligible for a TWO WEEK TRIAL. Due to the fact that many of our dogs come from the local city shelters, we do not know the background of many of them and therefore cannot always guarantee age or breed.  Size is subjective but we use the following guidelines:  Small 25 lbs (11 kg) or less Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg) Large 61-100 lbs (28-45 kg) X-Large 101 lbs (46 kg) or more For more information please fill out an application.   CONTACT INFO The Animal Rescue Alliance (TARA) Web site: tarasdream.org Adoption Information & Applications: https://tarasdream.org/adopt Upcoming Adoption Events: https://tarasdream.org/events Email: email@tarasdream.org August 29, 2026, 10:35 am

Story
Meet Dumaine! Dumaine is a 4-year-old Border Collie/Australian Shepherd mix with a resilient spirit and so much love to give. When we found him, he was living in an overgrown outdoor pen with almost no shelter from the summer heat except for a crumbling dog house. He had no water until a kind neighbor noticed his situation and brought him some. Sadly, the neglect was only part of his story. Dumaine was also caught in the middle of a dangerous domestic situation where the dogs were paying the price for the chaos around them. There was no way to know how much longer he would have been safe, so we stepped in as quickly as we could. Today, Dumaine is finally safe—and his true personality is beginning to shine. Because of everything he's been through, he may be a little shy when meeting new people. Give him a little patience, though, and you'll quickly discover a sweet, affectionate dog who is thrilled to be your best friend. He loves spending time with his people, is eager to please, and is learning new things every day. Dumaine is doing well on leash, enjoys playing with other dogs, and is already picking up basic commands. Like many Border Collie and Australian Shepherd mixes, he's intelligent and benefits from continued training and mental enrichment. One important thing to know about Dumaine is that he's an accomplished escape artist. His new family will need to supervise him closely anytime he's outdoors and keep him on a leash. Dumaine also has a beautiful long, double coat that will require regular brushing and routine grooming to keep him healthy and comfortable. After everything he's endured, Dumaine deserves a family that will provide the love, stability, and security he's been missing. In return, he'll reward them with unwavering loyalty, endless affection, and a lifelong best friend. Could that be you?
