Story
Pet Location: Wayside’s Canine Behavior Center – I`d love to show off all the cool things I’ve learned at Wayside! Please arrive at the shelter before 4pm on our open adoption days to meet me! My Friends at Wayside say: - I am enrolled in LIFT University and Waifs with Wisdom. LIFT University is a program for dogs to build confidence in new situations and work on managing energy. Waifs with Wisdom is a program for dogs to learn basic commands and leash walking skills. My adoption comes with a free 30-minute private training session.- During my time at Wayside, I have enjoyed being around other dogs. - New people and things make me a little nervous. Let’s take things slow!- Once I warm up, I have a lot of energy and need an active adopter!- I am eligible for a Slumber Pawty, a 7-10 day in-home trial period. Please visit our website for additional information. My home needs are:- I must go to a home that already has another dog so they can show me the ropes.- I feel more comfortable around new people when I have a doggie friend to build my confidence. Wayside requires you to bring your dog with you when you come to meet me. - I need a home with kids 6 years old and older since I tend to be nervous around new people and loud noises. - A fenced yard is a must for me! I need a secure area to go out for potty breaks. - It`s recommended I go home to an active home.- It`s recommended I go home to a quiet home environment.- For my safety, I need to go home on an anti-slip collar called a martingale collar. For your convenience, we sell them in our retail store, Whiskers and Wags.Hey there! My name is Dusty, and I’m a one-year-old Mini Aussie with a lot of love to give. However, I can be nervous when meeting new people, so I`ll need a little extra time and a steady hand to help me find my brave side. Because I’m a bit of a sensitive soul, I’ve been a star student in the LIFT University program (Low Impulse, Fear Tendencies) here at Wayside Waifs. This program is helping me learn how to navigate the big, wide world at my own pace and build the confidence I need to truly shine. When it comes to my ideal home, I have a few specific requests that will help me be the best dog I can be. First and foremost, I absolutely must have a canine sibling. Other dogs are my security blankets; I look to them for cues on how to act and to feel safe when things get a little spooky. Because my fut

Story
Please read bio before applying! Meet Merlin. This young man has had a rough go of it at just 1 year old. Merlin came to us as a commercial breeder release and when we got him at 6 months old, he had never been handled by humans. As a result, he is very distrusting of humans and requires a lot of patience and time to adjust to new people. Merlin is very dog friendly and because he is more comfortable with dogs than humans, we are requiring that he go to a home with at least one other canine. This will help set him up for success. He will also need a home with a secure fenced in yard, as he can be a bit of a flight risk, and he will need a home with no small children. Merlin has the potential to be an amazing companion, he just needs someone who will give him the time he needs to adjust

Story
Josie was adopted over a year ago at Wayside Waifs, she is a 2 year old Australian shepherd mix (possibly blue heeler). She is a very sweet girl who’s really affectionate/ outgoing and loves people. Story
Meet Polo, a loyal, goofy, people‑loving dog who deserves a home built for his energy and curiosity. Polo is a sweet, affectionate boy who loves being near his people and keeping an eye on everything happening around him. He’s smart, alert, and has a big personality that makes him the “neighborhood security guard” in the funniest way. He bonds deeply with his family and thrives when he feels included and engaged. Why he needs a new home: Polo has a strong drive to explore, and despite training and supervision, he has figured out how to slip out when doors open. He needs a home with a fully secured yard, consistent routines, and someone who can give him the structure and environment he deserves. This is not about him being a “bad dog” , he’s simply too clever and too curious for a home where kids or busy routines make door control harder. What Polo loves: • Being outside and watching the world • Playing and being active • Getting attention and being part of the

Story
Hi friends! My name is Willy. I'm a border collie mix of sorts and quite handsome if I do say so myself. I'm a bit of a special dog, a real shy guy, but if someone would just give me a chance I will make a great companion. I love other dogs, as long as they're friendly, and I absolutely must go to a home with another friendly dog or two to show me I'm in a safe place. We all need some reassurance sometimes, right? I also need a fenced yard. Whoever my new owner is will need to be able to give me lots of time and space to feel comfortable with them. I'm a really good boy, I'm crate trained and house broken, but until I get used to you I'm gonna need you to keep your paws to yourself. I promise it's not personal, and you'll see I'm worth the wait! Willy is neutered, up to date on shots and microchipped. He's located at The Pet Connection Sanctuary in Beloit, KS, but transportation to the right home may be available. To learn more about Willy please contact The Pet Connection by call or text- 913-671-PETS (7387).
