DAISY & WIGGLES Attributes Bonded Good on car rides Not best for apartments Housetrained Will potty on leash Dog friendly Requires a fence Medium energy Say hello to Wiggles and Daisy, a charming pair of 7-year-old Beagle girls with hearts of gold! They came to us when their previous family’s health was failing and they could no longer take care of the girls. Wiggles and Daisy both love to run in the yard with their noses to the ground, and they will let you know when they have spotted a squirrel in the tree. Both girls are a little shy, but they do enjoy some pets and snuggles. We think they were not allowed on furniture, but we tend to pick them up and snuggle them on the couch often, and they both enjoy it. There is a crate for them that stays open at night, and they will share the crate or sleep on their beds in the family room. They have the run of the kitchen and family room and use the doggy door to go outside. They get along well with their foster sisters and brother and love running in the field with them. The cat stays away from them, but because they have a healthy prey drive, a home with no cats would be best. Could you be Daisy and Wiggles’ perfect forever family? NOTE: Dog may be located in any of our six volunteer states (WI, IL, IN, OH, PA, MI).

Story
BAYOU Attributes: High energy Playful Crate trained Working on House training Will potty on a leash Dog friendly Does not like cats Likes to dig Good on car rides Adult only home preferred Not best for apartments Fence jumper Our first impression, upon meeting Bayou, was that he was a super friendly, carefree dog. He easily transitioned into our car, and remained calm the entire drive home. Once we arrived home and he met our 2 beagles, it became very apparent that, at just under 2 years old, he is still full of intense puppy-like energy. Immediately revealing his love of chase, the “zoomies”, his voice and a bit of rough housing, with his new dog friends, there was activity throughout the house! A brief backstory on Bayou was that his former owner allowed him to run free, outside. I have a feeling that he was in the company of other dogs, because all he knew and wanted to do was play and rough house. He would play relentlessly. We have been working on getting him to calm down and rest. Aside from playing with other dogs, he wants to be the center of attention, from all the humans that he meets. He has a huge personality and adores affection. He loves firm back scratches and belly rubs and this type of input has also helped him to calm down and he is now able to take naps! Bayou is smart, learns routines quickly and is definitely trainable. He knows how to sit on command and understands the word “No”. Bayou appears to be a blue tick beagle mix. He stands 16 inches tall and weighs around 27 pounds. He isn’t completely house trained and he doesn’t have any “tells” that he needs to go outdoors, so we take him out every 2-3 hours during the day, when we are home. In keeping that schedule, he rarely has accidents. He is crate trained for when we are away from home, sometimes up to 9 hours, and he has never messed in his crate. He will bark initially and does best when given a treat-filled frozen Kong when we leave. At night he is left loose in the house and will either sleep on the couch or the dog bed in the living room. Bayou is obsessed with food and will surf your counters for any chance to nab some food. He is not food aggressive and eats all of his meals next to the other dogs, without incident. He demonstrates great patience in sitting and taking his turn, when I am distributing treats to all three dogs. He enjoys bully sticks, frozen treats in a Kong toy, dog chew toys, plush toys that squeak and crinkle, and balls. He loves to be outside, walks well on a leash; however, once he picks up a fresh animal scent, in true beagle fashion, he will bark and pull with all of his might! Bayou is a skilled climber, so he would probably need a yard with a 5-foot fence. Bayou will bark like crazy when he hears or sees other dogs. I believe that this is pure excitement as he views meeting other dogs as another opportunity for play. He has never shown raised hackles or any form of fear with other dogs. He would probably do best in a home with another dog at a similar energy level or one that is very tolerant of his puppy antics. He would, however, not do well with cats, as that would be an endless game of chase for Bayou. Bayou loves all the people that he has met and he would probably do well in a calm home with more structured activity, such as long walks and food puzzles, and with older children. Mila Attributes Potties on leash Good in car rides Good with young kids (lives with a 2 yr old) Medium energy Not dog friendly Housebroken Loves squeaky toys Mila is looking for her perfect family after being returned to the rescue due to her prior family’s allergies. This sweetie is 8 years old, but she’s definitely young at heart! She’s a sturdy 40 pounds and is a medium-energy gal. She enjoys her walks (she walks well on a leash) and sniffing around the yard smelling all of the smells. Mila rides well in the car and would be delighted to join her new family on all of their adventures. Mila is good with young children. She’s never been around cats, and she will need to be an only dog. Now that the warmer weather is here, Mila likes to lounge on the backyard deck, watching the world go by. When she’s outside, she will do well on either a tie-out or in a fenced yard. Although she’s not much of a cuddler, Mila does enjoy being around her people and would prefer a family where someone is home most of the time. She’s housetrained and potties on a leash as well. She loves to play with any toys she can get her paws on, and like any beagle, she enjoys the occasional treat. When it’s bedtime, Mila happily curls up on foster mom’s bed for a restful night of sweet beagle dreams. NOTE: Dog may be located in any of our six volunteer states (WI, IL, IN, OH, PA, MI).

Story
BINDI 5 years Attributes Dog friendly Playful Needs a fence Medium energy Potties on leash Need another dog Working on housetraining High energy Hi I'm Bindi, a cute and quirky pocket or 13" Beagle.   My human died and I ended up at a shelter.  A nice lady got me out and kept me for a week then I came to my new foster home.

Some of my quirks are, I'm not very food motivated and can be a picky eater (yes, I'm really a Beagle).  But that means I don't bother anyone when they're in the kitchen.  I do like my kibble. I have a medium amount of energy but I do like to chew. I'll need a good assortment of sturdy toys. If I get bored my chewing gets me in trouble with my humans.

I love being outside in the fenced yard and would love a playmate which I don't have here.

I'm mostly okay in the car although I sometimes get a little nauseous. Walks are a typical stop-and-go event because I do need to smell things as we go but I don't pull.

I haven't been tested with young children or cats.

I don't like the crate at all but I like to sleep in the big bed with my humans. I am mostly housetrained.

I don't bark much but will use my outside voice to try to play with other dogs.  I whine and squeak when I'm happy or want attention.

Do you have a home with a fenced yard and a dog that needs a playmate? I'm your girl. NOTE: Dog may be located in any of our six volunteer states (WI, IL, IN, OH, PA, MI).

Story
PEETA 5 years Attributes: Good with dogs, Good in cars Needs a fence Medium energy Housetrained Peeta, affectionately called Petie by his foster mom, is a very handsome tri-colored beagle that is approximately 5-7 years old and weighs 28 lbs. He was picked up as a stray and ended up in a shelter. He's not had a very good life and more than likely has spent it outside on a chain or in a kennel.  He's recently completed treatment for heartworms and Lyme disease and is now very healthy. Peeta is currently in a foster home. He gets along very well with other dogs but hasn't been cat tested, although as mild mannered as he is he'd probably do fine with them. He is a friendly boy but shy at first when meeting new people. He's such a happy boy that his tail is always wagging. He came to us with no training or any idea how to behave in a home so he's learning his house manners the best he can and would benefit from your patience. He can sit for a treat and has learned to use a doggie door when he needs to go outside to potty. He will need a secure fenced yard as he loves to sniff around in the yard and play with his toys. Since his foster mom is retired, he is not left alone much and he likes it that way. He does not care for a crate so at night he either sleeps next to his foster mom's bed or will occasionally join her in bed. Peeta loves his walks and does not pull. He walks very slow and enjoys lots of sniffs along the way.  He's such a good boy when passing other dogs and does not bark at them. Like most beagles, he is very food motivated. He LOVES treats.  Peeta's ideal family would have a fenced yard, another dog to play with (not a deal breaker if not), lots of snuggle time and walks each day. Peeta rides well in a car and enjoys being petted and being close to you. With continued training we are confident Peeta will make a great addition to your family. NOTE: Dog may be located in any of our six volunteer states (WI, IL, IN, OH, PA, MI).

Story
RUSSELL Attributes Dog friendly Playful Snuggly Medium energy Housetrained Good with children of all ages Crate trained Requires a fence Fence climber Good in cars Not best for apartments Special needs Russell is a medium energy, 30 pound, 3-year-old beagle boy who is ready to find his forever family. His foster family describes him as a big squishy snuggle bug. He is a sweet, gentle soul who loves everyone he’s met and gets along well with other dogs. He especially loves babies/infants (see pictures). He loves to give kisses and snuggle with his humans. Russell is a medical marvel. When he first came to us, the doctor noticed a significant heart murmur. Further testing by a cardiologist revealed that Russell had a birth defect that was causing a severe blockage in one valve in his heart (pulmonary stenosis). The blockage caused Russell to experience lethargy and weakness. Even worse, the doctor said he was at significant risk of heart failure if the blockage wasn’t resolved. The good news is that Russell had landed with Midwest BREW and they got him in to see some really smart doctors at Purdue Veterinary Medicine. The incredible team at Purdue performed a balloon valvuloplasty, which is a procedure where a long catheter is fed through the jugular vein (the large vein of the neck) and into the right side of the heart. At the tip of the catheter is a long balloon. When inflated, the balloon stretches the blocked valve opening, reducing the blockage. Russell sailed through the surgery with flying colors. Follow-up tests revealed that the inflated balloon reduced the blockage by 52% - a very successful surgery! Russell has recovered from surgery and now has a new lease on life! He has lots of energy and seems to want to make up for lost time. He runs, plays, chases and wrestles with the other beagles here. Russell now has a wonderful quality of life and excellent prognosis for a full life span, as long as proper follow-up care is given. Russell will need to be with a family who is committed to his follow-up care. Russell saw a cardiologist on Jun 6 and there are no symptoms following his surgery. He will go back to the cardiologist and will have another echocardiogram September 3rd as a 6-month follow-up to his surgery. Additionally, Russell will need to see a cardiologist and have an echocardiogram once per year, to ensure that the valve in his heart remains unblocked. Russell also takes medicine twice per day to help reduce stress on his heart. Russell would do best in a home with a fenced yard or a family that enjoys lots of outdoor time with their dog. He especially loves to play outside. He is house trained and will go to the door when he wants outside. Russell is a climber and will climb over baby gates. He has never climbed over our chain-link fence, but I suspect he would be able to if sufficiently motivated. If you want to be Russell’s new family, contact Midwest BREW. NOTE: Dog may be located in any of our six volunteer states (WI, IL, IN, OH, PA, MI).
