Melvin is a 2 ½ – 3 y.o., 23 pound neutered Beagle who came to us after being rescued from a heartbreaking hoarding case. It is reported that 43 beagles were discovered living together in a single garage. Their world had been small and crowded, filled with the sounds and smells of dozens of other dogs but not much else. Basically submissive, Melvin’s socialization is progressing well. Melvin volunteers for chin, head & belly rubs. His love for food & treats provides a path for trust & learning. Melvin’s housetraining is coming along nicely. He has become comfortable in the fenced yard of his foster home. Melvin is making sense of a new world. He finds being leashed foreign, but has learned to well on the leash. Despite his past, Melvin is resilient. Melvin is learning about safety, comfort, and companionship for the very first time. He loves exploring his foster home yard. Melvin is not for a first time owner as he needs a patient adopter who wants the satisfaction of developing the trust & teaching skills to an under socialized dog. Quick movements & loud noises startle Melvin so that he darts away. So no children under age 8 please. Melvin is a flight risk and requires extra care with secure handling. Patience will be needed when meeting new people or visiting new places. Melvin is neutered, heartworm & fecal tested negative. Melvin is up to date on vaccinations as well as monthly heartworm, flea & tick preventatives. Melvin’s adoption fee is $425. Once learning that home is safe, Melvin will become the most loyal, affectionate companions you could imagine. If your heart has room for a dog who’s never truly known what “home” & loving, accepting companionship feels like, Melvin might be for you. Submit it & you will be contacted. We will make arrangements to meet with prospective adopters only after a submitted application has been reviewed & a phone conversation has taken place. Adopting a dog from a hoarding situation can be one of the most challenging — and rewarding — experiences in rescue. These dogs are learning about life from the ground up: hands can be gentle, food will always come, leashes can mean adventure, and people can be trusted. Everyday sights and may feel strange or scary at first. Progress can be slow, but watching them open up is nothing short of extraordinary. Please note that we are a foster based group located in the southern suburbs of Chicago. Our service area is the greater Chicago metropolitan area.

Bruno is a lovable seven-year-old Beagle who recently found his way to us as a stray, though his story quickly unfolded. Thanks to his microchip, we were able to find out that his `finders` where his owners, who then made the decision to surrender him due to housing instability. Despite the change in his life, Bruno remains a gentle, sweet-natured boy who is simply trying to understand his new surroundings. This chunky little guy weighs in at around forty pounds and has a calm, quiet presence at the shelter. Bruno truly shines when he’s with people—he adores attention and gets along wonderfully with other dogs. He enjoys his daily walks, taking in all the scents like a true Beagle, and has the softest way of accepting treats right from your hand. According to his previous owner, Bruno is housebroken and did great living with children, making him a wonderful companion for a variety of homes. He’s ready to leave the confusion behind and settle into a loving home where he can feel safe and cherished again. His adoption fee is $200, which includes his vaccines, fecal exam, deworming, current heartworm/flea prevention, heartworm test, and registered microchip. He is already fixed! It’s been said that “good things come in small packages,” and we couldn’t agree more! Our favorite 20lb beagle, Vivienne is officially ready to find her forever family! Vivienne is about 8 years old and is absolutely precious. Don’t let the number 8 fool you, she still has plenty of energy and life left! Vivi loves every human , even the tiny ones. She currently lives with a 2 year old human foster, and two big dogs, who she gets along great with! Vivi is house-trained and kennel-trained, she will go in on command, and sleep through the night without a peep- okay well maybe some snores. She does have some separation anxiety but her fosters have been working on that, and Vivi has made amazing progress. Viv loves to spend her days roaming the backyard, and protecting you from squirrels. Because she’s a hound and her nose has a lot of work to do, she would do best with a secure fence. She enjoys long naps on the couch and walks to the fridge. The ideal home for this sweet girl would be with someone who is patient and understanding. We aren’t sure what Vivi went through, but she didn’t have many kind hands petting her, so she can be nervous at first. Vivi would do best with another dog to help her continue to build her confidence.

Meet Sage! This gorgeous lemon beagle mix is around 2 years-old and weighs about 17 pounds. She came to us from a hoarding situation and has recovered from distemper. Sage is a sweet, energetic, playful girl! She does need some extra help with potty training, due to her past living situation. Sage is looking for a patient home, with a fenced yard and a family with prior beagle experience, to allow her to adjust to a new way of life. Did we mention she loves her stuffies?!
