My name is Little Louise (Lilly for short), and I am an affectionate an active beagle mix who would love to be your devoted best furry friend. Like many beagles, I am very attached to my people and will always greet you with excitement when you come home from work or errands. Try not to smile when my tail wags and ears flop while I ask for hugs and pets upon your return, I dare you! I would do best as your one and only pet in the house: I do well with other dogs at doggie daycare, but at home I am an attention hog and can get jealous of other pets when they have your focus. I would also prefer any children be on the older side (10+ years old) just because I am an excitable girlie and wouldn't want to accidentally hurt one of my tiny human siblings when I am being silly. I have a variety of interests including going for walkies to sniff and explore, cuddling with my family (my favorite spot is under the covers near your feetsies to help keep them warm at night!), and most especially running zoomies around the yard and chasing thrown balls or sticks. My ideal forever home will have a fenced yard so we can play fetch together every day - doesn't that sound like living the dream? You can also call me little miss smartypants, too: I am already potty trained and know commands including sit, down, and shake. In pretty typical beagle fashion, sometimes I am too smart for my own good and can find creative ways to try and escape. For example, I know how to open doors that have lever handles instead of knobs. Crazy smart, right!? So I will thrive with attentive humans who will keep an eye on me and keep me out of trouble. In return for your protection and love, I can promise a lifetime of laughs, amazing snuggles, and devotion. I need to line up a new foster home for Peabody. I can't say enough about how brilliant this dog is-- I LOVED fostering him. He was so great with all my dogs and cats, he was incredibly affectionate and he was such a fun dog to take to the local dog park. I want him to land in a home where he will be walked everyday and it would be the best if he had a young female dog to play with as he loves the ladies. Potential adopters need to live in the Chicago area and you must have a fence at least 5 feet high as he has been known to jump a fence. Click here for Peabody's Facebook Album What a FUN PUPPY!!! I have had the pleasure of fostering Mr. Peabody for several weeks. He is so sweet and cuddily and he LOVES to play with other dogs and his new forever home will need to have some buddies for him to play with to keep him out of mischief. He seems to be more playful with females. Beagles are curious dogs and his little nose can get him into trouble and he also needs a home with a fence at least 5 feet tall. Mr. P has gone on road trips and has done well and he also was brilliant at the local dog park- he is the best dog!!!! Peabody was especially great meeting new dogs and super friendly with all the new people he met. I was so proud of him. I would say Peabody is about 99% house trained and while he does not like the cage, he has settled down in his cage when I leave the house. I do allow him to sleep in bed and he is a great little companion if you want a dog to snuggle with at night. During TV time I say he is annoyingly affectionate-- he loves to put his head on your shoulder. I am only looking for a pet home in the Chicago area and whoever is lucky to adopt will have the bestest new forever friend. As a side note- he did start competing in a sport called Fast CAT- which is a 100 yard dash lure chase. HE LOVES IT!!! It would be so great if I could find him a home where he could continue with that sport or dog agility or nose works. 2-27-2023: Peabody was found as a stray in the Mt. Vernon, IL area and wound up at the Jefferson County shelter. He's a beagle mix and a cute one at that. He is about a year old and will need to be neutered. He is cat safe and playful with dogs. Best guess is he is about 25lbs. Peabody will need a safe fenced in yard and would benefit from basic obedience and he would love a daily walk. Because he is food motivated and athletic, he would be a great dog for Agility, Nose Works and all around fun. He is going to make a wonderful family pet.
