Story
Shorty is one of our dogs who survived the shelter fire. He is about 3 years old and 40 pounds. His foster family says this about him:
"Shorty is a Beagle mix with the chillest personality—he truly gives off laid-back “stoner vibes” and is happiest just hanging out with his people. He can be a little shy at first, but he warms up quickly and once he does, he’s a total cuddle bug. He would love nothing more than to curl up on the couch with you and snuggle up next to you at night. He also has the softest fur, and if you’re lucky, he’ll give you a tiny kiss.
Shorty has a great balance of playful energy and relaxed, easygoing vibes. He enjoys playtime, especially fetch and tug, and tennis balls are his absolute favorite! (Though fair warning—he’s a bit of a shredder, so fuzzy toys and stuffies may not last long with him.)
He is very dog-friendly and may even benefit from a calm, friendly dog in the home to help him come out of his shell. He would do best with a more submissive/not in your face personality dog so he can feel comfortable and relaxed. His compatibility with cats and children is unknown, but he tends to do his own thing and has a gentle demeanor.
Shorty walks very nicely on a leash and enjoys getting outside for some fresh air and exploring. He is not overly vocal, but will let you know when someone is at the door. Because he is curious and a bit of an adventurer, he will need a home with a secure setup—he has been known to test fences and can be quick to slip out an open door if given the chance. A watchful owner and consistent routine will help keep him safe and set him up for success.
Shorty is still working on crate training, potty training, and learning basic commands like “sit.” He is not highly food-motivated, but will benefit from patient, consistent training using positive reinforcement.
Shorty would do best with an adopter who is patient, attentive, and excited to help him continue learning while enjoying lots of cuddle time.
If you’re looking for a sweet, easygoing companion who loves to lounge, play a little, and give lots of affection, Shorty could be the perfect fit for you."
