Story
Shorty is one of our dogs who survived the shelter fire. He is about 3 years old and 40 pounds. His foster family says this about him: "Shorty is a Beagle mix with the chillest personality—he truly gives off laid-back “stoner vibes” and is happiest just hanging out with his people. He can be a little shy at first, but he warms up quickly and once he does, he’s a total cuddle bug. He would love nothing more than to curl up on the couch with you and snuggle up next to you at night. He also has the softest fur, and if you’re lucky, he’ll give you a tiny kiss. Shorty has a great balance of playful energy and relaxed, easygoing vibes. He enjoys playtime, especially fetch and tug, and tennis balls are his absolute favorite! (Though fair warning—he’s a bit of a shredder, so fuzzy toys and stuffies may not last long with him.) He is very dog-friendly and may even benefit from a calm, friendly dog in the home to help him come out of his shell. He would do best with a more submissive/not in your face personality dog so he can feel comfortable and relaxed. His compatibility with cats and children is unknown, but he tends to do his own thing and has a gentle demeanor. Shorty walks very nicely on a leash and enjoys getting outside for some fresh air and exploring. He is not overly vocal, but will let you know when someone is at the door. Because he is curious and a bit of an adventurer, he will need a home with a secure setup—he has been known to test fences and can be quick to slip out an open door if given the chance. A watchful owner and consistent routine will help keep him safe and set him up for success. Shorty is still working on crate training, potty training, and learning basic commands like “sit.” He is not highly food-motivated, but will benefit from patient, consistent training using positive reinforcement. Shorty would do best with an adopter who is patient, attentive, and excited to help him continue learning while enjoying lots of cuddle time. If you’re looking for a sweet, easygoing companion who loves to lounge, play a little, and give lots of affection, Shorty could be the perfect fit for you." We do NOT ship our animals. Story
Viola is a beautiful soul that we think is about 3 year old  and a Beagle mix girl. This black and white beauty with adorable speckled legs and a sweet She only weighs 20 lbs and has the sweetest smile and absolutely loves people. She was found as a stray that was taken to the shelter very scared and almost shutdown while there. Her human mother died and Viola is now 5 years old. Unfortunately we don’t really know her story, but we feel there is some trauma there in her past. It takes her a little bit to get used to people and even longer for dogs. She wants a safe place to observe (wire crate suggested)  till she figures it out. Her foster kept her behind a gate and her bed was her safe place. For a few days she would growl through the gate at the other dogs but after that it was over. We would leave the gate open and she would venture out and if she got nervous she would go back to her safe place. She is never ugly to the other dogs at her foster and  if one of the Chihuahuas was mean to her,  she just ignored her. We have her using puppy pads because there is  no fenced yard. Viola would definetly need a fenced yard so she can safely explore and have potty breaks. The outdoors makes her nervous still. She loves her people immensely and adores  kids but older ones are best.  If you want to help and REALLY rescue a dog them Viola would be forever indebted to you.    If you are interested please email at ccrtennessee@gmail.com    PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comMarch 7, 2026, 12:24 pm

Story
Hey there, I'm Drew, a feisty 12-year-old, 20 lb Beagle mix who plays nicely with other dogs but has a spicy side when it comes to my stuff and my people. I'm looking for an adults-only household, ideally with a single person, who appreciates a fiercely loyal companion to share their home. I’m the perfect fit for someone who’s content hanging out at home with me, and won’t mind tucking me away when guests come over (trust me, I prefer it that way!). Despite my sass, I'm a clever pup and know a few commands. I’m housebroken, crate trained, and absolutely adore my toys! I'll be your most loyal friend if you give me the chance. Interested in meeting your next best buddy? Fill out an application on www.ehrdogs.org, and let's get to know each other! Story
This little girl is named Penny and she is one very lucky penny indeed to be coming to Eleventh Hour Rescue! She comes from a situation in a rural area which is overcrowded with dogs and where there isn't enough food for them to eat. The owner is willing to surrender Penny so that she may have a better life here in NJ. Penny is a shy girl but she is very sweet. Please give this one-year-old girl a chance to know what a real home is like. Please complete an adoption application at www.ehrdogs.org and be sure to ask for her by name, PENNY SCAS! Story
Winston is 3.5 years old and weighs about 37 lbs. He was a street dog simply trying to survive, navigating a world where every day meant searching for food, avoiding cars, dodging poison, and staying away from people who aren’t always kind to stray dogs. On top of that, Winston was repeatedly bullied by a large owned dog in the area that was often allowed to roam off leash. One of those attacks left him with a broken leg. We got Winston the help he needed, and his leg was repaired. It has healed well, though he does still have a slight limp right now. The vet expects him to make a full recovery within the next 2–3 months. After everything he went through, returning him to the same streets was not an option. He deserved better, so Winston was brought to safety. And despite all of it, he is incredibly sweet. Winston is gentle with people, not dog aggressive, and currently lives with other dogs in the shelter without any issues. He has every reason not to trust the world—but he still does. Winston has already overcome so much. Now he just needs someone to give him what he’s never had before—a safe, loving home where he can finally just be a dog.  March 26, 2026, 4:20 pm

Story
Bunny is a 9-year-old, 35 lb sweetheart who was surrendered to the shelter with two other dogs when her owner could no longer care for them. Despite the change in her life, Bunny has remained an incredibly easygoing and loving girl who simply wants to be close to her person. She is a wonderful companion with a calm, gentle personality. Bunny is very house trained and can easily hold it through the night. She is crate trained but has proven to be completely trustworthy when left out, as she doesn’t touch anything in the home. She is also the easiest dog to walk on a leash and will happily stroll along for as long as you’d like. Bunny has done very well with the small dogs she has met and enjoys just peacefully coexisting. She still has plenty of life and spunk in her too — she easily goes up and down a tall wooden staircase and enjoys getting around just fine. Bunny does have a fatty lipoma on her side that has been checked by a veterinarian and deemed harmless. Otherwise, she has received a clean bill of health. She is microchipped, spayed, and up to date on vaccines, and she is ready to find a loving home where she can spend her golden years being the loyal, easy companion she truly is.  (function () { // Only on animal detail pages if (!/\/animals\/detail/i.test(location.pathname)) return; // Debounce to avoid double-fire (touchend + click, etc.) var lastNavAt = 0; function toFullSize(url) { try { var u = new URL(url, location.href); u.searchParams.delete('width'); u.searchParams.delete('height'); return u.toString(); } catch (e) { return url || ''; } } function looksLikeAnimalPhoto(url) { return /\/pictures\/animals\/\d+\/\d+\/[^?#]+\.(jpg|jpeg|png|gif)/i.test(url || ''); } function handler(e) { var el = e.target; if (!el) return; // Find the closest anchor or image in the click path var a = el.closest ? el.closest('a') : null; var img = el.closest ? el.closest('img') : null; var url = ''; // Prefer anchor href if it points to an animal photo if (a && a.getAttribute) { var href = a.getAttribute('href') || ''; if (href && (href.indexOf('/pictures/animals/') !== -1 || looksLikeAnimalPhoto(href))) { url = href; } } // Otherwise fall back to the image src if (!url && img && img.getAttribute) { var src = img.getAttribute('src') || ''; if (src && (src.indexOf('/pictures/animals/') !== -1 || looksLikeAnimalPhoto(src))) { url = src; } } if (!url) return; // Absolute URL + full-size version try { url = new URL(url, location.href).toString(); } catch (_) {} url = toFullSize(url); // Stop PrettyPhoto (and any other delegated click handlers) e.preventDefault(); e.stopPropagation(); if (e.stopImmediatePropagation) e.stopImmediatePropagation(); // Debounce var now = Date.now(); if (now - lastNavAt < 500) return; lastNavAt = now; // SAME TAB navigation to the full-size image location.href = url; } // Capture phase is the key: we get the event before PrettyPhoto.
