Story
Meet Maple - Our Lovely Golden Girl with a Spark!Maple is a gentle, loving older lady with a heart full of sweetness and a nose that can find a treat from a mile away! Snacks are absolutely the way to her heart - but she also has a delightful amount of pep and enthusiasm for life. This beautiful senior girl may have a calm, kind spirit, but don't let her gray hairs fool you - she has plenty of energy and enjoys lively walks, exploring the world with a happy tail, and engaging with her people. After her adventures, she's equally content to settle in for cozy naps and soak up affection. Maple came to us with a mammary tumor that was removed during her stay in our care. While testing showed that it had likely already metastasized, she currently shows no signs of illness. Her expected survival could be two years or more - but even if her time may be somewhat shorter, that only makes it more important that she find her forever home soon, with someone who will cherish her golden days. Maple is a "Pawspice" adoption, meaning the East Bay SPCA will provide specific ongoing support for her care going forward. Come meet this lovely, spirited girl to learn more and see if she's the one who'll brighten your home. Primary Color: Brown Secondary Color: White Weight: 72 Age: 8yrs 3mths 3wks

Story
I am at Oakland Animal Services in kennel Dog Adoption:10Milina – Playful, Enthusiastic with Goofy “Panda Ears” Milina is a 2.5-year-old Boxer / American Pit Bull Terrier mix weighing about 67 pounds. She’s lively spirited and enjoys sniffing and activities with her people. Curious explorer: Milina pulls on leash, but gradually settles as she sniffs and explores. She’s still working on her leash manners and will benefit from continued practice. Affectionate with people: She sits politely for treats and takes them gently. Milina enjoys “drive-by” pets but will also pause to soak up attention. Playful energy: After a good round of pets, she may burst into joyful zoomies, showing off her fun-loving personality. Dog interactions: Milina may become excited when she sees other dogs and would benefit from thoughtful guidance. Milina would thrive in a home that offers exercise, structure, and plenty of affection. She’d do well in a multi-dog home or as the only dog with well-matched canine friends.March 6, 2026, 10:17 am

Story
Meet Leona, the sweet boxer mix pup! Leona arrived to the Shelter as a stray so we don’t know much about her life before now. Since her arrival, staff have observed that she is easy to handle and interact with. She has met other dogs and enjoyed playing. This smart cookie has already started working on “sit” with our volunteers and positive reinforcement. She’d love to continue this in her adoptive home with her new people. Leona is still very much a puppy and is still perfecting life skills and manners such as potty training, leash walking, etc. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Story
Energetic, loving, and goofy 9-year-old Ella is super sweet but needs a family with an experienced dog owner. A little under 2ft tall and 40 lbs, she's sleek and muscular. Ella is fully house-trained and very patient with the three cats she lives with. She's never lived with kids but is generally chill with the children in the neighborhood.
She loves her toys, playing fetch, tug of war games, following you around the house, and of course, napping. Ella wants to be involved in whatever you're doing and is alert to someone coming to the door. She is highly food motivated, Ella picks up new tricks quickly but can be stubborn and easily distracted, so she needs lots of consistent positive reinforcement to maintain behavioral changes. She has many opinions and she will let you know about them.
Ella also plays well with other dogs, although sometimes she has issues with dogs larger than she is, but is good at de-escalating potential conflicts. Ella really loves company so if her new people are gone for a full work day she will need a canine companion. She's leash trained and always excited to jump in the car to visit the park. Ella is a great dog looking for a home where she is loved and cherished. Would you be the one for her?" Ella is now being fostered in Oakland, CA and her adoption fee is $275.00 Arrangements to meet our dogs occur after an application has been received. Please contact us at dogzonerescue@yahoo.com for more information about this great gal or for an application to adopt.

Story
Alicia is a 9 year old brindle female pit mix Hi, I’m Alicia — a 9-year-old pittie with the sweetest soul and the cutest quirk… I bring you my leash when I’m ready to go outside! My foster mom saved me from a shelter in California, and I’m so grateful for this second chance. I’m spayed, up to date on shots, heartworm negative, and my favorite place to be is right next to you, snoozing while we watch TV together. I’m a people-loving, cuddle-seeking girl who would thrive as the only dog in the home. I’ve done well around kids (my foster’s 10-year-old buddy and I get along great!), but I prefer not to share my space or toys with other dogs. I’m a big fan of toys — sometimes I even prance around proudly with my favorite one when we come back inside. I’m still polishing up my potty skills, but when I’m part of the action (instead of tucked away), I do much better letting you know I need to go out — sometimes by grabbing my leash or standing by the door. With a patient family willing to give me structure, love, and a little grace, I’ll be your loyal shadow, your TV-time snuggle buddy, and your forever best friend. ##2498985##

Story
Pat is a F blk/wht pit bull foster notes: Pat is a blue-nose pit and approximately 2 years old. When she feels safe she shows her loving, silly, and playful side. Pat loves to play with squeaky toys, go on walks, and eat chicken. Pat can be very affectionate and loves to cuddle on the couch. Pat’s ideal home is a healthy balance of outdoor and homebody activities. Although Pat does have the capacity to be friendly, she does have reservations: Pat is fearful of strangers walking towards her especially if they’re making movements with their arms. Pat can also be fearful of other dogs that stare at her and my react with barking and lunging. It’s clear that Pat has had a rough start to life but in the right home she will thrive. Pat is potty trained, walks well on leash, and does well in car rides. Pat is learning commands such as sit and wait.  She loves bananas Pat would do best in a home that has experience with rescues and has the patience to work with her. Pat would do best as the single pet in the home but may be okay with other dogs with a slow introduction.  Foster-Mom notes:  •Personality/Temperament: Pat listens to me really well—I have built a strong rapport with her so it’s not difficult for me to clean her paws, brush her teeth, moisturize her paws etc. And she has never snapped at me when I’ve done these things. The only thing is when I first got her she was slightly fearful of her harness and collar but she’s now completely fine with it especially since I’ve shown her we can take it off. I think whoever adopts Pat wouldn’t have issue with this either so long as there is a strong loving foundation.    Pat loves jumping in bushes and prefers to go to the bathroom behind the bush    Pat sometimes gets the zoomies when she poops or pees so something to be mindful of   When Pat is anxious she bites at her nails and paw pads so I make sure that she has toys so she can redirect that to something else    •Medical Appointments: She was reactive when she went to the vet but my vet is very patient with her and worked around it. I brought her with a muzzle on. Trazodone also has been a big help specifically when I took her to get spayed.    •Social Engagement: Pat loves my youngest dog Koko but does not like Sugar. The latter is because Sugar smelled food that Pat had and wanted it and this made Pat distrustful of Sugar. Sugar is also my oldest living dog so I think there’s a level of respect Sugar feels like she should be getting. When Pat is hungry and smells chicken or that I’m cooking she will “awroo” at me (not a bark but not a cry) and Sugar doesn’t like that so she’ll bark at Pat.   Pat also seems to be more fearful of men but with patience she can overcome it (eg, she was reactive when she first met my dad but now she loves him and follows him around the house when we visit ##2576226##
