Story
Kay gave birth in a baseball dugout, because who needs a hospital when you've got a dugout, right? It was the only safe place she could find, and at 8 months old, she was basically a baby herself. What she didn't know was that the summer heat would be unbearable in the dugout, but luckily a Good Samaritan came to her rescue. Since then, her babies have been adopted. Mama Kay is getting some much-needed rest and enjoying living indoors, playing with toys and living her best life. Kay does well with other indoor cats but is still fearful of dogs. She may learn to enjoy the company of dogs with a very slow introduction but a cat only home might be the best option for her. Kay is a petite and a bit shy but loves to curl up in your lap once she gets to know you. She would love to join a family of her own. Can she stay with you? Story
How this pet arrived: Chong was brought in by his previous owner on December 17, 2025.Why this pet is the one for you:Meet Cheech #852658 and Chong #852657! These handsome felines are a bonded pair of brothers seeking a home where they can continue their delightful antics together. While Cheech is the more outgoing of the two, both brothers are initially shy with new people and will require patience and time to acclimate to their new surroundings. They have successfully lived with older children, but would prefer a home without dogs due to their fearfulness. Although they eventually adjusted to living with another cat, they might be happiest as the sole feline residents, enjoying all the attention themselves. A crucial consideration for their new family is their tendency to "door dash," making it imperative to secure and close doors diligently to ensure their safety. Come on in and adopt Cheech and Chong today! Primary Color: Red Tabby Weight: 11.82 Age: 5yrs 9mths 3wks

Story
How this pet arrived: Jellybean was brought in by a community member on January 5, 2025. Why this pet is the one for you:Jellybean is a cat with a PhD in Napping and a master's degree in Blanket Burrowing. Her hobbies include perfecting the art of hide-and-seek (spoiler: she always wins), curling up in her beloved hidey tent, and judging the world from a safe, elevated perch. She's looking for a quiet, peaceful kingdom where she can rule with a soft paw - no rambunctious dogs or tiny humans, please! Jellybean will need time, patience and an extended period of royal acclimation (translation: a comfy confinement space, plenty of snacks and the occasional whispered compliment). Win her heart with tasty treats, fun toys and a gentle approach, and you'll be rewarded with a steadfast and loyal companion. Jellybean does enjoy petting - especially chin rubs - from her favorite people and she will reward you with purrs and maybe a little drool! She isn't very demanding and loves her alone time for extended naps. If you're ready to offer Jellybean the cozy paradise she deserves, fill out the interest form above!Shy/Fearful Cat:  This pet requires a virtual behavior consult, please watch THIS video to learn more about them. Primary Color: Black Weight: 11.8 Age: 14yrs 8mths 3wks

IN FOSTER: Mies and Minnie's foster is committed to helping them find a new family! To begin the adoption process, please reach out to the foster directly at: lesliesdhsfostervolunteer@gmail.com. How this pet arrived: Mies was brought in by a community member on October 4, 2025. Why this pet is the one for you:Minnie #968507 and Mies #446698 (pronounced Meece) are bonded sisters who are looking for a home together! They're currently in a foster home and we have had the joy of seeing them settle in and show their sweet, gentle natures. Gentle and affectionate, they've only lived indoors in a calm, quiet home and will do best in a similar environment - they haven't ever lived with other pets or children, so a home without those things may be best. They may be shy at first, but with patience they warm up beautifully. Minnie could use a little diet and extra playtime, but both adore treats, daily brushing, wand toys, and the occasional catnip party. They're tidy girls who do best with at least two jumbo litter boxes. Most days they nap together, then in the evenings cuddle on the couch, the bed, or their kitty condos. They enjoy both wet and dry food, and "squeeze-up" treats are a favorite. If you think these sweet sisters might be the right fit, reach out about adopting today! At SDHS:Minnie has been vaccinated, microchipped and spayed. She is now ready for her new home! Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: White Weight: 11.8 Age: 7yrs 6mths 0wks
