Story
When I came into the county shelter as a stray I was paralyzed with fear. Of course, I'm a 7.5lb Chihuahua and everyone was a giant. I protected myself in the only way I knew by acting mean and I was whisked off the adoption floor into solitary. My foster mom saw me before I was isolated so after my stray hold she came and rescued me. I can be a little frightened when I'm handled roughly by someone new so please be kind to me. I'm working on my potty training. I'm pretty smart so with a little help I know I'll get there. I get along with other dogs, mostly small please. I'm a little cuddle bug so how mean can I be? If you like the Chihuahua breed you'll just L.O.V.E me!

Story
LOOKING FOR A CALM/PATIENT OWNER:  Approx. 5 years old / Approx. 21 lbs. Hi, my name’s Wesley!  Mostly Mutts rescued me from animal control & I am so grateful they are helping me find a great furever home!  I came in with a cherry eye & heartworm positive, but both of those things have been medically treated and I’ve fully recovered.  Now I just need a patient & understanding family to adopt me.  I got to spend some time in the prison/foster training program where I had a great time & learned a lot, too!  I’m now in a great foster home waiting for my forever family to find me! • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS:  I met dogs recently at Mostly Mutts and liked them.  I also played nicely with the dogs I met in the prison/foster training program and in my foster home, with just a few minor corrections over whose stuff is whose, so if you have a nice dog at home already, let’s meet and see if we can be pals!  / Cats unknown. / I haven’t met kids at Mostly Mutts, but I have been reactive to certain touches in the past, so best no kids in my new home.       • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL:  When I first came to Mostly Mutts, it took a little while to feel comfortable & I was reactive to touch, but now I bond with people much more quickly.  Give me a little time & you will see my sweet, playful & affectionate side blossom.  When people rushed to get to know me or touched me at times near my hind end, I’ve bitten them, so let me come to you & let you know when I’m ready for affection.  Since settling into my new environment, this has not been a prominent issue.  It only took about a day for my trainer in the prison/foster training program to win me over & then I made other friends fairly quickly.  I did great for my baths & toweling off in the prison/foster training program & at Mostly Mutts too. I am playful with toys & am a lap dog once we are friends.  Now that I am more comfortable with people, my reaction seems to be just a quick head whip as though to say “hey, what are you doing back there?” I like being picked up, just not restrained from being able to say hello to all my other friends.  My trainer says I have a typical bossy, little dog way about me which I think means that I am quite charming. / My energy level is 5-7. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY:  I’m a proud graduate of the Mostly Mutts University training program so I’ve learned the ‘sit’, ‘stay’, ‘down’, ‘come’, ‘drop it’, ‘leave it’ & ‘place’ commands.  I also use proper door etiquette & have good leash manners as well as accept nice strangers without jumping. / My crate manners are good at Mostly Mutts, though I used to whine when I was in there. My foster reports that I am doing much better with that and now sleep quietly through the night. My foster also says I am a smart, responsible boy when left out as I am not one to mess with any of your things. I am fine to sleep in my crate or in the bed with you if you let me! Warm cuddles under the covers with my person after my morning potty break make my tail wag! / My potty habits have been good on the shelter & prison/foster training program schedules as well as in my foster home. • LIKES/DISLIKES:  My favorite spot is in a comfy lap where I can give you lots of kisses.  I also love to burrow under blankets, so cute!  My new spot has been by the window where I can sunbathe and look out at the world outside. I love treats (Pup-Peroni – yum!) and have learned how to take them gently from an open hand.  This is also a great way to make new friends! I like to play with toys, too, especially balls & tug-type toys.  Under belly scratches are the best.  Just because I’m little, doesn’t mean I don’t like to go for walks!  Long or short, let’s get in some exercise together.  I also don’t mind the car, so let’s go on lots of adventures!  / I don’t think I’d enjoy living in a home with a lot of folks coming & going or approaching me too quickly. Other than the previously mentioned things, I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise & training. • MEDICAL:  I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped & neutered.  I must be muzzled when I go to the vet as I do not like it there!  My trainers have worked with me on this skill, and I have done well so please ask about that. I am looking for a loving home with a caring family, perhaps you!  My adoption fee is $299.00, & I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.  July 26, 2024, 11:37 am

Story
A SWEET GAL LOOKING FOR A CALM HOME:  Approx. 14 years old / Approx. 10 lbs.    Hi, my name is Priscilla!  I had a loving home, but my world was turned upside down when my person started experiencing health issues and could no longer care for me.  Another doggie friend and I made our way to Mostly Mutts, and they got me to a wonderful foster home.  I’m grateful for the love I am receiving and can’t wait to be in my new home! • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS:  I came to Mostly Mutts with another dog and lived with several dogs previously.  I have been fine with the other dogs in my foster home – as long as they don’t want to play with me or get in my space too much. Sometimes, I am not fond of sharing my person with them during couch time and may snap at them, and my foster feeds me separately to avoid conflicts. / Cats unknown. / I haven’t met kids yet, but I’m an older gal and haven’t lived with kids, so if you have much older calm teens, we can meet and see how we do together. No young kids.         • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL:  In my foster home, I’m a sweet girl who is a curious little explorer of my surroundings.  I’m not super playful, but I am loyal to my person and was used to lots of love in my previous home.  While I thrive on attention, I do not need it constantly and am perfectly content to just be near you.  I’d be a great companion for someone who is home a good bit and would enjoy a quiet little friend to hang out on a dog bed near you. I did not do well at the Mostly Mutts shelter and I was defensive as there were too many people and too much going on there – so peace and quiet is my jam. / My energy level is 3 - 5. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY:  I don’t know any specific skills/commands and seem a bit hard of hearing, so commands may be a challenge for me, as I mostly respond to loud claps or whistles. / I’m not crated in my foster home and am not at all happy when separated from my person by the baby gate.  It really is the only time I make noise. / I do well with my potty skills during the day on a frequent let out schedule, though I have been having accidents overnight.  Taking up my water at night and some help with pee pad training are tips to improve this. • LIKES/DISLIKES:  The thing I love best is just being with my people.  I am a sweet girl who doesn’t require a great deal of snuggles … just your presence makes me happy! / Other than the issues with some dogs that I mentioned above, and too many people or too much going on, etc. I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love and good care. • MEDICAL:  I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed. I have a grade 3/5 heart murmur that doesn’t require medication at this time, of course it should be monitored and may need meds in the future.  I’m missing most of my teeth, but that doesn’t bother me, and I hope you won’t mind.  I am looking for a calm and peaceful home where I can enjoy my retirement time!  My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.  July 26, 2024, 11:37 am

Story
A LITTLE SWEETHEART:  7 years old / Approx. 8 lbs.  Hi, my name is Milo!  I had a home, but my previous owner is no longer able to care for me the way I deserve and could no longer take me for walks, so Mostly Mutts agreed to help me find a new family to love.  I know they are out there, so check out my profile and see if I may be YOUR new furry family member!  I’m in a wonderful foster home now while I wait for my new family to find me.  • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS:  I’ve not met other dogs at Mostly Mutts or in my previous home that I recall, and I do growl at dogs I pass on my walks in my foster home, so if you have a dog, we should meet and see if we can be friends. / I did not mind the cat in my previous home, so if you have a dog-friendly kitty, let’s meet! / My former owner said I liked kids, but I can’t remember their ages.  Best no toddlers or small children that may fall on me though, as I am pretty tiny and – of course, let’s meet! • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL:  I’m a super sweet little guy who was nervous when I first arrived, but the volunteers were kind to me and took good care of me, so I opened up and started blossoming!  Now I’m in a foster home and my foster reports that I’m just the cutest little boy ever!  Very sweet with a happy and friendly nature who is also busy as well as content to nap, go for walks, get belly rubs and lots of love!  I pride myself in being an alert guy who will let you know when someone or something is nearby – yes, I’m a tiny guard dog! / My energy level is 4-6. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY:  I reportedly knew the ‘sit’, ‘stay’ and ‘outside’ commands in my previous home, and I’m sure you can teach me lots more! / I was reportedly crate trained in my previous home, but I do not seem to need a crate in my foster home. / My former family said that I was potty trained and I’m doing great with my potty manners in my foster home too! • LIKES/DISLIKES:  I enjoy being out and about going for walks as well as dog stroller rides.  In my previous home, I loved to travel, go camping and hang out with my people.  Cuddling, getting belly rubs, napping, playing with toys, and having a nice soft doggie bed with a cushy blanket is also great! / I don’t love taking my medication for my skin issues, so perhaps you can find a yummy treat that it can go in.  I can’t think of any other dislikes, though I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL:  I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered. I came in with ear infections that have been treated as well as a good bit of patchy fur loss and pink irritated skin, so I’m getting special baths twice a week and these can be done in my new home.  I’m also on a medication called Apoquel to help with my skin and we’re not sure if I’ll need to stay on this long term yet or not.  Regardless, I’ll need you to be committed to my baths and medical needs.  I am looking for a loving home for life!  My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.  July 26, 2024, 11:37 am

Story
LOOKING FOR A GREAT ‘HOSPICE’ HOME:  Approx. 20 years old / Approx. 7 lbs.    Hi, my name is Chip!  I’ve lived a great life with an amazing animal lover, advocate and rescuer!  In fact, my mom helped Mostly Mutts secure their current rescue building so that hundreds of pets could be saved every year!  Now she’s in memory care and needs our help in finding her beloved pets’ new homes. I’m one of them and I’m looking for an amazing family (like my mom has been) to love and care for me for the rest of my life. I’ve clearly been well cared for as I’m 20 years old.  I’m in a great foster home until I can find my new family.   • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS:  I’ve been very good with the other calm dogs in my foster home and in fact I even played chase with one of the other little dogs there.  I wouldn’t want to live with active dogs, but calm dogs could be a nice fit for me.  I however do not like when other dogs try and finish my meals, so I’ll get fussy about that.  If you have a nice calm dog or two, let’s meet. / I didn’t live with kitties before but there are cats in my foster home, and I’ve chased them, but only after they swatted at me for no reason, so I may be able to live with kitties as long as they ignore me, let’s meet. / I haven’t lived with kids, so if you have much older calm and gentle kids, let’s meet!  • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL:  My foster describes me as a very sweet old guy who is still young at heart. I love both my foster mom and my foster dad and haven’t picked a favorite person yet.  When meeting new people, I’m a little cautious, but chin and ear scratches win me over.  I’ll bark if I want attention or if I’m still hungry and would like more to eat. I have a bit of an independent nature and will nip if I’m uncertain or unhappy about something.  Don’t worry as I give plenty of warning growls before I try to nip.  My fosters have only experienced this when giving me medication for my dental health.  They say that I have a typical Chihuahua spirit and that whoever gives me my furever home will be lucky to be loved by me. / I have a low energy level at 1 – 3.    • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY:  I’m not concerned with any commands or tricks but I’m a great napper and will watch TV with you and hang out in your lap. / I don’t use a crate in my foster home, so perhaps you could keep me gated in a safe area when you leave the home. / I may have been potty trained in the past, but at 20 years old – please don’t expect me to remember my potty manners.  My foster takes me out regularly but also uses a belly band so that I don’t have accidents in the home.   • LIKES/DISLIKES:  I like to be included in what the family is doing such as watching TV, getting dinner ready, etc.  I also like to shadow my family and nap in their laps. Chin and ear scratches are enjoyable to me too. Basically, I want to feel loved. / I would not want to live in a busy type of home and I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love and attention. • MEDICAL:  I'm neutered but am too old to be microchipped or given immunizations any longer, and my teeth have been cleaned in the past, but I’m too old to go under anesthesia again, so I receive a monthly treatment of CLINDCURE to keep any infection related to my dental health at bay. I have limited vision due to my age, so please keep me safe from falling down the stairs, etc.   I’m looking for a family that will love me for the rest of my life – long or short.  My adoption fee is $100.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.  July 26, 2024, 11:37 am
