He enjoys spending time with his people and thrives on companionship and affection. Coco is the type of dog who wants to be included in family activities and will happily join you for walks, adventures, or a relaxing evening at home. As a Chihuahua mix, Coco may show traits such as: Strong loyalty to his family Affectionate and companion-oriented personality Alert and intelligent nature Playful but manageable energy Strong bonds with his people Chihuahua mixes often make wonderful companions because of their devotion, intelligence, and adaptable nature. They thrive when given structure, companionship, and positive reinforcement. Coco would thrive in a home prepared for: Daily walks and exercise Continued training and guidance Mental stimulation and enrichment Structure, consistency, and routine Plenty of companionship and affection A lifelong commitment to his physical and emotional well-being His small size makes him an excellent companion for many different lifestyles while still enjoying adventures and activities with his family. Training, Adjustment & What to Expect Many rescue dogs come from uncertain beginnings and may not have had structure, socialization, or training before arriving at rescue. Because of this, most rescue dogs arrive with only basic training at best, and some may have had no formal training at all. Even friendly and well-adjusted dogs benefit from continued guidance, consistency, and positive reinforcement after adoption. The rescue environment itself also does not always allow for extensive one-on-one training. While we work hard to provide safety, structure, socialization, and basic guidance, adopters should expect to continue training and support after adoption. Coco will benefit from: Positive reinforcement training Daily structure and routine Continued socialization and exposure Exercise and mental stimulation Patience, consistency, and supervision Please remember the 3-3-3 Rule: 3 days to decompress 3 weeks to learn your routine 3 months to fully feel at home With patience, guidance, and commitment, rescue dogs like Coco blossom into deeply loyal lifelong companions. Owner Responsibilities & Veterinary Care Owning a dog is a lifelong commitment that includes training, daily exercise, companionship, routine veterinary care, financial responsibility, and emotional commitment throughout every stage of life. Coco will need: Daily walks, exercise, and interaction Continued training and guidance Routine veterinary care and wellness exams Preventative care including flea, tick, and heartworm prevention Proper nutrition and weight management Mental stimulation and enrichment A safe, stable, indoor living environment Because of his small size, care should be taken around larger animals, rough play, and unsecured outdoor spaces. Coco is an indoor family dog and is not to be chained or left outside. Because Rubi is still young and growing, adopters should be prepared for the normal puppy stages that include chewing, teething, accidents, testing boundaries, and continued social development. Rubi is an indoor family dog and is not to be chained or left outside. Story
Hello! My name is Uncle (also known as Umka), and I'm searching for a loving new family after my longtime owner had to move into assisted living. It's been a big change, but I'm settling into foster care and showing everyone what a sweet little companion I am. I was accustomed to gourmet human snacks (cheese was definitely a favorite!) and am still adjusting to regular dog food. Luckily, my foster mom sprinkles a little (dog-safe) cheddar on top, which makes dinner much more acceptable to my refined palate. It has to be all soft food because I don't have any teeth!I'm a calm, easygoing little guy who spends much of the day happily snoozing. If you're looking for a quiet companion who enjoys cozy afternoons as much as you do, we might be a perfect match. My favorite place to nap? Curled up on your lap, of course. I'm wonderful with people of all ages, from babies and young children to seniors. As long as everyone is gentle and kind, I'm happy to make new friends. When it comes to other dogs, I'm a bit more complicated. On walks, I am quite vocal when I see unfamiliar dogs because they make me feel a little nervous. Once I actually got to meet a couple of dogs during a recent playdate, I decided they were pretty nice! With slow introductions and the right personality match, I could do well with another friendly dog or cat in the home. I'm also a fantastic travel companion. I ride beautifully in the car and would love to join you on adventures, whether that's a weekend getaway or simply running errands together.I'm potty trained, though I do best when I'm given a potty break every 3–4 hours. I may sleep through most of the day, but the moment I hear a treat bag crinkle or catch the scent of something delicious, I'm instantly awake and gently pawing your leg in hopes you'll share a snack. If you're looking for a loving, loyal companion who wants nothing more than a warm lap, kind words, and a little cheese now and then, I'd love to meet you. I have so much love left to give, and I'm hoping my next home will be my forever home.I'm in a foster home, so please fill out an application at animalaidpdx.org to meet me. Est. Story
Peanut may be tiny, but don’t let his size fool you—this little Chiweenie mix has a BIG personality. At around five months old, Peanut is a playful, goofy, tail-wagging machine who is fully committed to living life as one big adventure. Peanut is the kind of puppy who turns everything into a game. Got a toy? It’s his favorite. Got another toy? Also his favorite. Got a sock? Well… that might be his most favorite. He loves to bounce around, play tug, and zoom in happy little circles like he just discovered joy for the first time (every single time). His playful energy is contagious, and it’s nearly impossible not to smile when he’s around. Watch his YouTube video now https://youtu.be/VaHXt10YCaA?si=iZMbNbyHGGT8bm_d He’s also wonderfully social and loves being part of the action. Whether you’re playing, moving around the house, or just existing nearby, Peanut wants to be involved. He’s curious, silly, and full of that classic puppy mischief that keeps life interesting. Because Peanut is still a baby, he’ll need a family ready to commit to all the important puppy basics—potty training, structure, patience, and lots of positive reinforcement. He’s not going to come pre-programmed, but that’s part of the magic. Watching him learn and grow will be one of the most rewarding experiences. Peanut is looking for a home that will embrace his playful spirit, guide him with love, and give him plenty of time and attention. In return, he’ll bring nonstop laughter, endless affection, and a lifetime of loyalty packed into one tiny, wiggly little pup. https://adopt.animalsfirst.com/animal/62cc8e128b02916730334440/69b486679f183a9ac005b9e2 Questions? Story
Warning: Side effects of reading this bio may include sudden squealing, an overwhelming urge to buy tiny sweaters, and falling hopelessly in love. Meet Margherita! A teeny tiny black Chihuahua princess who currently weighs about 2 pounds of pure adorableness and is working hard on mastering the important puppy skills of snuggling, napping, and stealing hearts. At just 4 weeks old, Margherita is the smallest of her four siblings, but don’t let her tiny size fool you. This little lady is quietly finding her courage and growing more confident every day. She has a sweet, gentle nature and prefers to take in the world at her own pace before deciding you’re worthy of her affection. Like any respectable Chihuahua, Margherita has already perfected the signature Chihuahua tremble. Is she cold? Excited? Deeply contemplating life’s mysteries? The world may never know. When she’s not busy being impossibly cute, Margherita loves to snuggle up close and soak in all the love she can get. Her mama is estimated to be around 12 pounds, so we expect Margherita to stay delightfully petite as she grows. Because she is still a very young puppy, her future family should be ready for all the joys and challenges that come with puppyhood. Puppies require patience, love, consistency, and training as they learn house manners, confidence, routines, and all the skills needed to become wonderful adult dogs. The time you invest now will help Margherita blossom into the amazing companion she’s meant to be. Tiny? Absolutely. Sweet? Without question. Ready to steal your heart? She’s already halfway there. If you’re looking for a pocket-sized best friend with a gentle spirit, endless cuddle potential, and a future full of love, Margherita may be your perfect match. *Insert adoption link Questions?
