Story
Meet Davis, a gentle soul who came to Helping Paws after being rescued by the Animal Rescue Corps from a large hoarding situation involving over 150 small dogs. Understandably, Davis is a bit shy; having grown up in an environment with limited human interaction, he's still learning what it means to be loved and cared for individually. But since arriving at Helping Paws, Davis has been making remarkable progress, coming out of his shell and growing more trusting with each passing day.Davis has already mastered going potty outside and has impeccable leash manners, which is impressive given how new a leash and collar are to him. He enjoys spending time in the outside kennel, where he gets to relax in a calm environment, and he gets along well with other dogs.Davis would thrive best in a patient, quiet home where he can continue to adjust and feel safe as he settles into his new life. If you're interested in opening your heart and home to this deserving little guy, please reach out to Helping Paws-Davis is ready for a fresh start filled with all the love and affection he deserves.

Story
About Me: Name: Domino Breed (or best guess): Chihuahua mix Approximate Age: 8 yr Gender: Male Approximate Weight: 12 lb Adoption Fee: Reduced Fee $300 Requirements: Patient Adopter Why In Rescue: Owner passed away Profile: Domino has been with Bichon and Little Buddies for over 2 years as we have worked with him to have him become comfortable with humans other than his owner.  When he was surrendered, we were told he is paranoid - and that does fit him.  He gets worried when he has a tag on his collar or when he is wearing a sweater.  He has stranger danger, so isn't going to want to be in a household where people are coming and going a lot or where he is expected to go visiting.  While he has some issues, he is a funny and loving guy to the people he has bonded with.  He will sit excitedly, waiting for one of his chosen ones to kneel down and open his kennel door so he can leap out and give a hug.  It is now time for him to venture out and find a family of his own.  While he lived with other dogs in his previous home, at the shelter there are a number of dogs he doesn't get along with - primarily males, so he may do best as an only dog or a female dog with a slow introduction.  Domino went for a short home visit with a volunteer to see how he would be in a home.  He had issues with other dogs in the house when the foster mom had food.  We are hoping for an only dog home for him to lessen the chance for issues if he decided to try to guard his person or his food.  He did warm up to visitors with some time, but will likely always need a slow introduction.   If you are looking to adopt a dog that really needs you, Domino may be that guy.  He is an athletic little guy who will climb up to the top of his kennel so he can look out and see what is going on.  If you can offer Domino a patient and loving home, please fill out the pre-adoption application and we can discuss more things about him. If interested in adoption, the first step is filling out the pre-adoption application at http://www.bichonrescues.com/pre-adoption-form-dog  If link isn't clickable, please copy/paste or visit http://www.bichonrescues.com. We do our best to evaluate the dogs while they are with us, but they sometimes act different in the shelter environment than they do in a home.  Many times we do not know the actual breed/mix or age of the dog, in that case we use our best guess as to breed and age.   We are located in Mukwonago, WI.  Adopters must come to us, we do not ship our dogs.  Please do not apply for a dog until you are ready to adopt.  Once an application is approved you will be notified by email to make an appointment to meet the dog.  All dogs are seen by appointment only. The adoption fee through Bichon and Little Buddies Rescue is $200 - $550 depending on the age of the dog, which includes Wi State Sales Tax.  Included in this fee is your new companion who will be spayed/neutered, have a current Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (as required by state law), current on age appropriate vaccinations, heartworm tested (if old enough) and started on preventative, microchipped, and given a general wormer.  Other medical needs will also have been taken care of, such as dentals and treating ear infections.  To assist you and your new pet in adjusting to life together, you may chose to take an 8 week age appropriate obedience training course at For Pet's Sake Dog Training in Mukwonago, WI for $75 (up to $230 value).  You may opt to take Puppy Kindergarten, Adult Beginners, or Small Dogs Big Hearts.  You must register for the class within 90 days of adoption for the reduced fee.  For more information on the classes visit www.forpetssake.cc  More important information: ***We are a Wisconsin based rescue and do not ship our pets.  If you are considering adoption you must be willing to drive to meet and adopt the pet, as well as bring the pet back to us if the adoption doesn't work.  We adopt primarily in WI and IL, but will consider applicants in MN, IA, and MI.*** ***Please do not set up an appointment to meet the animals until you are ready to take your pet home.  If the meeting results in a match, you can often take the dog/cat home the same day or within a couple days if the medical care hasn't been completed.  We are not able to hold pets for adopters beyond this time.  Thanks for understanding.*** ***While we hope all of our adoptions lead to permanent homes for the animals we place, sometimes things just don't work out.  We do have a 30 day trial period.  For the first 30 days, if you or Bichon and Little Buddies decide that the adoption isn't a good match for either the humans or the pet, the adoption fee will be refunded minus $75 within 30 days of the return of the dog.  Bichon and Little Buddies also requires adopters to return the pet to us at any time that they are unable or unwilling to care for the animal anymore.*** ***We do not show dogs without an appointment.  The first step in adoption is filling out the pre-adoption application at http://www.bichonrescues.com/pre-adoption-form-dog  Please do not call/email until AFTER you have filled out an application.*** Bichon and Little Buddies is a State Licensed Rescue # 268555-DS November 3, 2024, 3:29 pm

Story
Meet Karley! I'm a quiet little, 7lb adult chihuhua mix who loves to cuddle! I am dog friendly with other mellow pups (have not been cat tested) but prefer a mellow home that is free of young children and lots of activity. My most favorite thing to do is nap and then work on my chew toy when I wake up. Short walks are ok but sometimes the outside world can be a little scary. However, I do enjoy having a fenced in yard and love hanging out in the sunshine. I have been doing really well going potty outside when on a consistent schedule. Sometimes though I need a little help getting outside or some patience using potty pads inside if the outside is intimidating at the moment. My confident foster siblings help me feel safe and I take cues from them so other friendly small dogs are important for me. I'm a little gal looking for the perfect home where I can feel safe and blossom. Since I’m so tiny and sweet, I can find new things and loud noises a bit scary but I just need time to feel comfortable and more confident. I definitely prefer females and need a lot of time to warm up to men, so would need any men in the home to be extra patient with me. Once I’m familiar with the people and pets around me my real personality comes out. I need a family that will be patient and understanding and let me do this on my time and when I’m ready. I am a stubborn little girl and do not like to be pushed. Once I’m comfortable I can show you just how playful and sweet I can be. My foster mom says I am the easiest dog in the world to love. I know my ideal home is out there and looking for me too. Is that home yours?? *Karley is being fostered in Milwaukee, WI. Story
Meet Archie! Age: senior Weight: 10 pounds Good with: kids (I live with two small humans and get along just fine with them), dogs (I prefer smaller dogs, but only bark at bigger dogs so they know who the boss is), I haven't met any cats just yet. House trained: yes, but sometimes I mark, so I wear a belly band so I don't have any accidents, and I really don't mind it one bit. It's easy peasy! Crate trained: yes Hey folks, Archie here! I’m a peppy little frenchie-chi mix. Look at these ears! Adorable!! I’m a friendly little fella and always ready to meet new human friends. Feel free to pick me up! I’ll lick you in the face and snuggle on your lap. I enjoy sleeping on the couch (the top cushion please! I am the boss after all), going for walks and sniffing around the yard. One of my favorite things is chasing toys and ripping all the stuffing out of them! Grr, I’m tough! At night and when the humans are gone for a long time, I snooze in my crate and it's my cozy place. Now that it's getting a bit colder, you can find me under the blanket. I hardly bark, so would probably do fine in an apartment. I’m all ready to go to my new forever home now, so come meet sweet little me! I promise if you make me a part of your family I'll show you all of my love! *Archie is being fostered in Madison, WI. Story
Meet Chloe! Age: Golden Oldie Weight: 11lbs Breed: Chi/Terrier mix Good with: dogs of all sizes, cats and older kids House trained: Yes but needs frequent potty breaks Crate trained: Yes Special needs: Would prefer someone home often to let her out to potty, home with no or limited stairs (or willing to carry her up/down) Chloe is an independent, confident and bright golden oldie that enjoys daily walks around the neighborhood to show off her leash skills and meet new friends. Her absolute favorite time of the day is meal time/snack time and since she can’t tell time, she is always ready to chow down. Once her tummy is full she loves to be near her people on a cozy dog bed. While she’s cute and happy to be near her people, she is not a big cuddler, but perhaps she is waiting for the right family before she tries. While this curious and quiet girl has been a pleasure to host, her foster family reports that she is not a fan of her face being touched, so it’s recommended that she not live with small children. She’s still happy to be picked up and carried around, she’s great in the car and is happy to join you on adventures. Chloe has a luxating patella and some arthritis, which is typical for a dog this age, but neither seem to bother her on walks. She can do a limited number of stairs, but should be in a home with few/no stairs or a family willing to carry her. Chloe is as sweet and quiet as she is cute. This tiny lady is so deserving of a home of her own, could you be the family she is looking for? Story
Meet Kartwright! Age: senior Weight: 21 pounds Good with: Dogs, cats (kids unknown, since I don't live with them, but older kiddos I'm sure would be right up my alley!) House trained: yes Crate trained: no need for a crate, since I'm pretty perfect! Special needs: deaf and blind, but don't let that scare you away! I get around juuuust fine! I also take some thyroid meds, but that's easy breezy too, and it keeps me healthier! Hey there, I'm KartWright, but my foster mom calls me Kart, and my foster brother thinks I'm a Huckleberry. No big deal though, since I'm deaf and blind, so names are just names, right? Anyway, don't let my disabilities fool you, I'm still a total adventurer! I can find my way around the house in no time, and when I want something, you'll definitely know about it, because I'm not afraid to use my voice. Food, outside, attention - you name it, I want it! I'd prefer if my new human was home more often than not, so I can get all the things whenever I want! I'm an old guy now, and foster mom says I deserve to get all the things! Oh, and did I mention I love blankets and couches? Like, seriously love them. Sleeping next to you in bed would be paw-some. I'm also super chill with other dogs, like, any size, doesn't matter. I'm currently crashing with six of them, so I'm a pro at doggy playdates. I'm not too shabby with cats either, since I enjoy my alone time, so we can just hang out and do our own thing. I'm house-trained, as long as you stick to a schedule, and car rides are a breeze, but leashes, not so much. My foster mom says I'm a laid-back pup that just wants to be happy, so if you're looking for a chill buddy! *Kartwright is being fostered in Columbus, WI.
