Story
Put Short Bio here: MEET TACO Taco (Taco Soup) is the cutest little corgi mix and has the sweetest personality to match his little face. He’s a low rider boy who loves to trot along on walks and take in all the sniffs the city has to offer. Taco has already proven to be a perfect city dog and has adjusted to the loud sounds and busy environment of the city! He is not easily spooked and has lots of confidence. Taco loves saying hi to dogs of all sizes and gets along with all of them. He also loves making friends with humans and has become a big hit among my friends and neighbors. Taco is such a sweet soul and loves to cuddle up and roll over for belly rubs and baby talk. He is great in the house and listens well to sit & leave it commands. He is able to snooze or entertain himself with toys and puzzles and chews while I work and then comes by to say hi every now and then. He’s truly such a good boy and will thrive in most homes! Taco is working on his house training and goes outside 80% of the time - he makes progress every day and being in a routine helps him a lot. Story
We're thrilled to welcome the newest little lady, Bella! When we saw a plea to rescue Bella from an overcrowded inner city shelter we knew we had to make it happen, as she wasn't doing well. Bella is a middle aged, pittie mix and what she's mixed with is anyone's guess! Corgi? Bassett hound? Dachshund? Definitely something with short legs! She's the ultimate low rider, with her creamy brown coat, big ears and adorable bunny hop-run. She has a calm, sweet temperament jumping up lightly to give hugs. Bella is as snug as a bug in a rug? Her favorite place is cuddled underneath her favorite blanket! So what if it’s June??? This girl knows how to get comfy. When it comes to being cute and adorable Bella understands the assignment. She enjoys short walks, quick zoomies in the yard, peanut butter treats and of course her blankie! She’s a low maintenance gal and doesn’t mind being your couch buddy. A ride in the car or a trip to a local brewery are good with her too as long as she’s with her people. Bella is ok around other dogs but prefers not to share a home with them, she wants her family allllll to herself. We think she’ll give more than enough love for one dog.? If you love the low riders and think Bella could fit into your lifestyle please fill out an application at pittiesandpals.com

Story
5 years, 30lbs, Corgi/Terrier Mix, Neutered - Low Rider (Super cute short legs)  Is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org. Thier Foster Parent Says: "Reading is such a good boy. He has very regimented mornings that begin around 6:30am when he likes to take 10 steps outside, pee, and come right back in for breakfast. Once he's done eating, he likes to go promptly back to bed until 10am or so. From there Otis enjoys a few short potty breaks throughout the day followed by his longer walk in the evening. He loves to lay on the couch next to me or on his bed by my desk while I work, occasionally asking for pets or for me to play tug of war. Reading can destroy even the most "indestructible" toys in just a few hours, but knows to never chew things that don't belong to him. Reading unfortunately suffers from separation anxiety from being passed around from home to home. I feel strongly that once he's in a permanent home with a patient, loving person for a few months that this will certainly work itself out. In the meantime, Reading tags along with me for most outings. He's a great companion to run errands with, is always polite at restaurants and bars and is an absolute pro in the subway and cabs!" Level of dog ownership experience needed: INTERMEDIATE: This dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Energy Level  MEDIUM: Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  Cuddle Bug LevelHigh — Wants to be in your lap pretty much all the timePotty TrainedYes — Few or no accidentsComfy with strangers?Yep — Wants to be friends with everyone who walks by, super social butterfly, loves anyone who will stop to say hello.Good with Children? (ALWAYS requires supervision)Yes for 12 and up — may be a little energetic or a little skittish, best with older children that can be extra gentle or that are big enough not to get accidentally knocked downCan be a little mouthy when he plays or gets excited, but very gently!Good with Other Dogs?Mostly — Generally good with other dogs but may be picky (scared of big dogs or plays too rough for small dogs, for example)Good with Other Animals? (cats, small pets, etc.)Sort of — Seems to chase squirrels and birds and comes on a little strong so probably not a good match for a home with cats, rabbits, etc.Doing much better with the resident cat, but overall would do better without I think. He gets easily startled and his instinc is to engage instead of ignore. Mouthy Behavior?Low – Little to no interest in chewing on stuff or putting things in its mouth that aren’t food. Doesn’t try to chew on hands, feet, etc. during playtime, doesn’t wreck your stuff — only chews on appropriate things like dog toys and bones.LOVES chewing on toys, but is respectful of things that aren't his.Leash Manners?Old Pro – Seems like a dog that has been on leash before. Doesn’t pull hard or need much direction.Okay in the city?Yes — Seems unfazed by the sights and sounds, they may as well have been born here.Great on public transit and in cars too!Jumping on People to Say Hi?Low – Doesn’t jump up on people or dogs. Always all four on the floor.Separation Anxiety?Higher – Reading does have seperation anxiety he does well when he has time to settle into a home. The best thing for him would be to have a forever home as transitioning from home to home doesn't help.  Crate training?Yep/mostly – Seems comfortable in the crate, may whine a little at first but settles pretty quickly. We use the crate when we leave the pup alone and/or at night. He likes to hang out in the crate sometimes for a nap and we feed all meals in the crate. We leave him in there to keep him from destroying things/hurting himself/the cat when we leave but I think ideally he would be in a home that could work through his separation anxiety and could leave him without a crate as I think it might make things worse for him.  Medical statusHealthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm negative; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake  How this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee or St. Thomas. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!  This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes.
