Story
Meet Abby Our spicy girl looking for an experienced adopter!  Abby is believed to be a 2-3 year old chihuahua/corgi mix who represents both breeds well. Abby needs an EXPERIENCED adopter. Abby does not like to share her toys, food or treats and will do best as the only pet in the home. She also does not like sharing her humans, and if being carried, gets very protective and she’s not shy about letting you know! Abby does not like being in a crate and if you try to reach in it, she will use your fingers as target practice No kids for this gal as her spice knows no bounds!  Aside from these quirky and snarky traits, she just wants to be your one and only love. She’s as happy as she looks in this picture (we promise!) but needs an owner who can accept when to give her space and let Abby exist in peace ❤️All Perth Amboy Animal Shelter residents will be fully vaccinated, spayed/neutered and microchipped prior to adoption.  You must be 23 or older to adopt from the shelter, complete an Adoption Application and pay the associated adoption fee.  The application must be approved by the shelter staff and all adoptions are finalized based on the best interests of our animals.  Come visit us Monday - Friday between 10am and 4pm and Saturday/Sunday from 10am - 3pm.  Contact us at (732) 324-3877 and don't forget to ask about our Foster Program!April 29, 2026, 6:37 am

Story
Meet Lucy, a 2 year old, 22 pound Corgi–German Shepherd mix with the perfect blend of big dog heart and compact dog charm. With her expressive ears, soft eyes, and thoughtful nature, she’s the kind of dog who bonds deeply once she feels safe.Lucy can be a little cautious when meeting new people, especially men. She may voice her feelings at first — it’s simply her way of gathering information and making sure everything is okay. With patience, calm energy, and a little space to warm up at her own pace, she quickly realizes she’s among friends. Once that trust clicks, her affectionate side shines, and she becomes a loyal, loving companion. She’s also got a playful streak. When Lucy gets excited, she’ll give you a cheerful play bow and a few happy barks to invite you into the fun. The rest of the time, she’s mellow, easygoing, and content to relax by your side.Lucy is looking for someone who understands that good relationships take a moment to bloom — someone who appreciates a gentle dog with a soft heart, a silly side, and a whole lot of love to give. If you’re searching for a sweet companion who blossoms with trust and brings joy in her own thoughtful way, Lucy might be your perfect match. If you are interested in meeting Lucy please complete an Interest Form. An adoption counselor will contact you to schedule an appointment.April 29, 2026, 3:10 pm

Story
Irwin - 1 year 5 months (as of 4/17), 28lbs, Corgi/Beagle Mix, Neutered This dog is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org Their Foster Parent Says: "My experience fostering Irwin has been a joy. He’s incredibly sweet and loves staying close to his humans. On walks, he shows off his playful “parkour” side—climbing onto ledges, exploring different levels, chasing pigeons, and greeting other dogs. At home, Irwin balances playfulness with independence. He checks in often, then happily retreats to his crate as his own sanctuary. He’s easygoing with toys and will even come up with his own creative ways to play. Irwin is still working on a couple of typical puppy behaviors—he can get a bit jumpy and slightly mouthy when he’s excited. That said, he’s very smart and responsive, so it doesn’t take much redirection for him to settle and understand boundaries. He’s also incredibly food-motivated, which makes training both effective and rewarding. With consistency, he picks things up quickly, making him a great match for someone who’s comfortable continuing to guide and reinforce his training." Level of dog ownership experience needed:INTERMEDIATE: This dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Energy levelMEDIUM: Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  TOLERANCE TO THE CITYIn between bean - fine with most things but gets scared with pour trucks POTTY TRAININGYes – Few or no accidents COMFORT LEVEL WITH STRANGERSSocial butterfly – Wants to be friends with everyone who walks by, loves anyone who will stop to say hello.  BEHAVIOR WITH CHILDREN (always requires adult supervision)Maybe for age 12 and up – Is either big and energetic (okay with kids big enough not to get knocked down) or a little skittish (could be comfortable with older children that can be extra gentle)  SOCIAL BEHAVIOR WITH OTHER DOGSMostly – Generally good with other dogs but may be selective (scared of big dogs or plays too rough for small dogs, for example)  RESPECTFUL BEHAVIOR WITH OTHER ANIMALS (cats, small pets, etc.)Nope – Chases and barks at cats etc., definitely not a good match for a home with cats or pocket pets  MOUTHY BEHAVIORNeeds training – Is either still in the puppy stage or was never trained. Tries to put their mouth on your hands when playing. Respectful with household items.  SEPARATION ANXIETY (Please leave your foster dog home alone every day for at least 20 minutes.)Past this stage – Completely fine being left home alone. Doesn’t cry or exhibit destructive behavior when you leave the apartment or house.  LEASH MANNERSWTF is a leash – Pulls hard. Zig zags like crazy. Has no idea how to walk on a leash or doesn’t have outside privileges yet (too young) CUDDLE BUG LEVELHigh – Wants to be in your lap pretty much all the time  JUMPING ON PEOPLE TO SAY HELLONeeds training – Very excited to greet everyone and has no idea how to do so politely. Jumps up on most strangers or other dogs that go by. In puppy phase or wasn’t trained as a young adult.  CRATE TRAININGYep/mostly – Seems comfortable in the crate, may whine a little at first but settles pretty quickly. We use the crate when we leave the pup alone and/or at night.  Medical statusHealthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm tested if coming from the South or Puerto Rico ; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake How this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Los Angeles and Puerto Rico. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!  This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes.
