Story
Meet Minnie – our precious little golden girl looking for a peaceful place to call home 💛 At 16 years young, Minnie is a small mixed-breed lady with the sweetest soul and the gentlest heart. She was found as a stray and brought to a crowded New Jersey shelter, and now she’s ready to leave the chaos behind and settle into a cozy home where she can truly relax. Minnie is incredibly sweet and mellow. She’s house-trained, well-mannered, and happiest when she’s lounging nearby, soaking up love and companionship. She doesn’t mind other calm dogs or respectful cats, but at her vintage age, she prefers friends who match her relaxed vibe. Rambunctious puppies and high-energy chaos just aren’t her style! What Minnie dreams of most is a quiet home where she can enjoy her golden years in comfort — a soft bed, a gentle routine, and a loving human by her side. She still has so much love to give and would make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a loyal, low-key best friend. If you have room in your heart and home for a sweet senior lady, Minnie is ready to fill your days with quiet joy and unconditional love. 🐾💗 www.pickyourpaw.org for an adoption

Story
Irwin - 1 years, 28lbs, Corgi/Beagle Mix, Neutered This dog is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org Their Foster Parent Says: "Irwin is a sweet, affectionate young pup who loves giving kisses and crawling into your lap for a snuggle. He still has some of that puppy energy and loves playing with his toys, but will also calm down and relax on the rug near your feet or wander into his crate for a nap. He is adapting well to the city and loves meeting new people. Sometimes he may need to be discouraged from jumping on them enthusiastically! He is less sure about other dogs, so introductions should be made with caution. Irwin is fully house trained, crate trained, and is not destructive in the home. He would do best with an adopter who has leash training experience and will commit to working with him on this so he can become his most awesome self!" Level of dog ownership experience needed:INTERMEDIATE: This dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Energy levelMEDIUM: Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  TOLERANCE TO THE CITYIn between bean - fine with most things but gets scared with pour trucks POTTY TRAININGYes – Few or no accidents COMFORT LEVEL WITH STRANGERSSocial butterfly – Wants to be friends with everyone who walks by, loves anyone who will stop to say hello.  BEHAVIOR WITH CHILDREN (always requires adult supervision)Maybe for age 12 and up – Is either big and energetic (okay with kids big enough not to get knocked down) or a little skittish (could be comfortable with older children that can be extra gentle)  SOCIAL BEHAVIOR WITH OTHER DOGSMostly – Generally good with other dogs but may be selective (scared of big dogs or plays too rough for small dogs, for example)  RESPECTFUL BEHAVIOR WITH OTHER ANIMALS (cats, small pets, etc.)Nope – Chases and barks at cats etc., definitely not a good match for a home with cats or pocket pets  MOUTHY BEHAVIORNeeds training – Is either still in the puppy stage or was never trained. Tries to put their mouth on your hands when playing. Respectful with household items.  SEPARATION ANXIETY (Please leave your foster dog home alone every day for at least 20 minutes.)Past this stage – Completely fine being left home alone. Doesn’t cry or exhibit destructive behavior when you leave the apartment or house.  LEASH MANNERSWTF is a leash – Pulls hard. Zig zags like crazy. Has no idea how to walk on a leash or doesn’t have outside privileges yet (too young) CUDDLE BUG LEVELHigh – Wants to be in your lap pretty much all the time  JUMPING ON PEOPLE TO SAY HELLONeeds training – Very excited to greet everyone and has no idea how to do so politely. Jumps up on most strangers or other dogs that go by. In puppy phase or wasn’t trained as a young adult.  CRATE TRAININGYep/mostly – Seems comfortable in the crate, may whine a little at first but settles pretty quickly. We use the crate when we leave the pup alone and/or at night.  Medical statusHealthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm tested if coming from the South or Puerto Rico ; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake How this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Los Angeles and Puerto Rico. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!  This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes. Story
Selma - 5 years, 29lbs, Corgi Mix, Spayed This dog is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org Thier Foster Says: “Selma is one of the most loving, gentle dogs I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. She quickly became my little shadow, happily following me from room to room just to keep me company. Wherever you are in the house, Selma wants to be nearby—usually curled up beside you or perfectly tucked into a cozy little ball on the couch or bed. She is an absolute cuddle bug and will never turn down a belly rub. She’s done wonderfully with our resident dog and cat. She was definitely curious about the cat at first, but quickly learned to coexist peacefully. Outside, she can be a little shy around other dogs, but she handled our grumpy, loud 12-year-old pug like a total pro. In fact, she’s been incredibly quiet overall—she hasn’t barked once all weekend.Selma walks very nicely on a leash and does great walking side-by-side with our dog. The busy sounds of the city are still a little new for her, but she’s already getting braver and I’m confident she’ll grow more comfortable with time. She’s also pretty particular about where she likes to go to the bathroom, so it sometimes takes a little patience while she finds the perfect spot. A home with easier access to grass would probably make her very happy. Her mornings are the cutest—she wakes up full of energy and zoomies, then happily heads out for a walk. When we come back, she sprints up the stairs and zooms around the apartment like she just won a race. She also entertains herself by tossing her toys up in the air and pouncing on them. Despite those playful bursts, she’s generally a calm, relaxed girl who loves to nap the day away near her people. One of the sweetest things about Selma is how gentle she is with treats—she delicately balances them across her paws and nibbles them like a little snack connoisseur. She listens well when you say “no” or “stop,” and while she’s still learning commands like “sit,” she’s clearly eager to please. Selma would thrive in a home where someone can spend a good amount of time with her. She loves companionship, cozy naps, and moderate walks, but she isn’t a dog who needs hours of exercise. She’s just a gentle, affectionate girl with a huge heart who wants to love and be loved. Anyone lucky enough to adopt Selma will quickly discover what a special companion she is." Level of dog ownership experience required:BEGINNER – “Beginner” doesn’t necessarily mean easy as all dogs will require time, work, and patience, but we predict this dog will be low on the challenge scale because of their breed/age combo. Potentially a good fit for someone who has relevant dog care experience (fostering, dog sitting) and is looking to adopt their first pup.  Energy level:MEDIUM – Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  ENERGY LEVELLower – Pretty chill indoors and won’t demand endless amounts of stimulation and exercise but still needs a few walks a day (10-30 min each) for potty breaks and to stretch their legsTOLERANCE TO CITYAdjusting to the city –  doing well but can still be spooked by city things - random loud noises etc POTTY TRAININGYes – Few or no accidentsCOMFORT LEVEL WITH STRANGERSIn between bean – Fine with meeting new people but not particularly interested, kind of shy in busy social situations like a gathering or a packed day in the park. BEHAVIOR WITH CHILDREN (always requires adult supervision)Yes for most ages – very confident, gentle, low energy, tolerant, not mouthy SOCIAL BEHAVIOR WITH OTHER DOGSYes – Good with most other dogs (sizes, breeds, etc.) as far as we know and enjoys socializing with other caninesRESPECTFUL BEHAVIOR WITH OTHER ANIMALS (cats, small pets, etc.)Yes – Seems to get along with cats etc., either tries to play with them or is mostly uninterested MOUTHY BEHAVIORPast this stage– Little to no interest in chewing on stuff or putting things in their mouth that aren’t food. Doesn’t try to chew on hands, feet, etc. during playtimeSEPARATION ANXIETY (Please leave your foster dog home alone every day for at least 20 minutes.)Adjusting – Might cry for a few minutes when you first leave the house but settles pretty quickly and has no problem being left alone otherwise. LEASH MANNERSOld Pro – Doesn’t pull hard or need much direction. CUDDLE BUG LEVELHigh – Wants to be in your lap pretty much all the time JUMPING ON PEOPLE TO SAY HELLOCalm Greetings – Doesn’t jump up on people or dogs. Always all four on the floor. CRATE TRAININGNot at all – Don’t even have one, I’ve puppy proofed and we free range.  Medical status:Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm tested if coming from Tennessee or Puerto Rico; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intakeHow did this dog end up with Social Tees? Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Los Angeles, and Puerto Rico.
