Story
Rudy is the total package: calm, quiet, and full of love. This sweet boy is potty trained, great on walks, and rides beautifully in the car — the kind of companion who makes every outing easy and enjoyable. He’s a certified lovebug and cuddle expert who’s happiest soaking up affection and staying close to his people. When he’s not snuggled up, you’ll find him enjoying his toys or politely accepting treats (food is definitely a love language he understands).Rudy gets along well with other dogs and has a special soft spot for the ladies — yes, he’s a feminist. He’s been with us since December 1st, making him one of our longest-term residents. Rudy is patiently waiting for a forever home where he can share all his love and loyalty. If you’re looking for a gentle, affectionate companion who brings calm energy, excellent manners, and a whole lot of heart, Rudy might be your perfect match.

All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption fee: $700 Dreamcatcher—“Dreamy” to his foster family— is a 6 month old Dachshund mix weighing just 10 pounds, though he somehow looks and feels even smaller. One of the “8 in a Crate,” Dreamy arrived unsure of the world. Today, he’s a blossoming, playful little shadow who is discovering how to be a puppy— one brave step at a time.   His day starts around 8:00 a.m. when foster mom lifts him from his crate and carries him straight outside. With the help of his resident foster dogs, Dreamy has begun going potty outdoors in the morning. When he does, it’s met with big celebrations and treats— something he’s starting to understand is a very good thing. After that, it’s game on with his foster puppy brother. The two wrestle, chase, and tumble through the morning, pausing occasionally for a nibble of kibble before collapsing for nap time.   Dream doesn’t understand the leash yet, so gentle encouragement is needed to guide him into the yard to explore. Within just a few days, he learned to follow the other dogs in and out of the house, watching closely and mimicking what they do. He is learning by example. During the workday, he stays in the kitchen and dining area with the other dogs while foster mom works, happily entertaining himself with toys, his foster brother, and any sticks or leaves they manage to bring in from the yard. Dinner is served around 5:00 p.m., and Dreamy loves his kibble. At bedtime, he knows exactly where to go— into his crate in the bedroom. He insists on being in the room with his pack and then sleeps quietly until morning.   When Dreamy first arrived, he was completely shut down. For two full days, he would not come out of his crate unless no one was watching. He would sneak out to potty and then dart right back in.   And then something shifted.   His young foster brother began patiently drawing him out. Slowly, Dreamy started to watch. Then he started to participate. A few days in, he was rolling around in a dog bed, letting foster brother pounce on him. After that, his transformation sped up. He began initiating play, bouncing around like a proper puppy, grabbing toys, and positioning himself wherever the action was. While still timid with people, he clearly wanted to be near them.   Today, Dreamy will approach new people to sniff them. He offers gentle nose taps and even little kisses. He is still afraid of hands reaching to pet him and prefers affection on his own terms, but he loves being close—watching, observing, and sometimes curling up against legs for a nap if he feels safe. It truly feels like a matter of time before this shy boy grows into the full “puppy package.” Watching him bloom has been a joy.   He plays non-stop with his small, 1-year-old foster brother and is completely devoted to his 15-year-old foster sister. She is his quiet anchor. He follows her in the yard, tries to give her kisses, and is learning from her that outside is the right place to potty. He was cat-tested at the DPS Safehouse and proved curious but respectful. He recently met a pre-teen girl and gently put his paws on her to sniff her face.   Dreamcatcher is very much a playful puppy, balanced with solid nap skills. He will pile onto the couch or into bed with the rest of the pack for rest, but when he’s awake, he’s energetic and engaged. He does not yet understand leash walking and will need patient, trust-based training.   Dreamy loves to chew and needs appropriate outlets for it. And while his sweet, delicate face might suggest pure innocence, there is a mischievous streak hiding behind those eyes. Leave clothes on the floor and he will proudly parade them around the house. He has a surprising vertical leap and considers tables perfectly reasonable climbing platforms. One day, foster mom heard a noise and turned to find him calmly staring at her from the dining room table. He also enjoys chasing and nibbling at moving feet under blankets— perhaps channeling his inner Dachshund.   Dreamcatcher must go to a home with at least one confident, friendly resident dog. He relies heavily on canine leadership to feel safe and to learn appropriate behaviors. A home with rescue experience and patience will set him up for success. He needs adopters who understand that trust is earned gently and consistently.   His transformation so far has been remarkable, and he is only just beginning. Once Dreamy feels safe enough to fully be himself, he is going to be an extraordinary companion— loyal, playful, brave in his own mischievous way, and deeply attached to his people and his pack.February 26, 2026, 9:15 pm

Story
Please welcome the truly gorgeous Gabby! This pretty girl is 3 years old and a magical mix of dog breeds that makes her one of the most unique pups you'll ever see. She was originally rescued in the pouring rain, and once cleaned up, fed, and vetted, her sweet personality shone through. Weighing 49 lbs,Gabby is very loving and adores all people, including kids, and gets along well with other dogs and cats. While she is happy to coexist with other pets, she would also flourish as the center of attention in her forever home! She is curious and eager to please her foster, though she can be cautious when meeting new people until she warms up.Gabby is already reliably crate trained and is making great progress with her leash manners. She would be a perfect companion for someone looking for a sweet, engaged, gentle, and playful pup who is past the problem puppy stage—a dog you can snuggle, walk, and who will make you feel like the best dog parent ever. All our dogs come spayed and fully vetted.Gabby is currently being fostered in Ukiah, CA ##1943484##

**COURTESY REHOMING POST** Chubby is not a CACC dog. We have not met her nor evaluated her and can't attest to her health or temperament. Please use the contact information listed to reach out and learn more. Sweet Chubby needs a furever home. This little puppy has been on a long journey and is ready to settle down with someone who loves her. Shy, sweet gentle family dog, she’s looking for a patient person. She loves other dogs and would be a great addition to a family looking to add a second pup to the mix. Has lived with children, so may do well as a family dog once she's comfortable. For more information, please contact Marcus at muceleoni@yahoo.com.

Story
Meet Dumpling, a senior snack-sized sweetheart with ears so big they deserve their own zip code! She might be a little shy at first, but don’t worry, she warms up faster than butter on a biscuit. She’s a lap lover, a treat enthusiast, and a pro at stealing hearts one tiny wiggle at a time. Dumpling gets along with other dogs and adds extra flavor to any household with her sweet charm and curious personality. She’s looking for a patient, cozy home where she can snuggle, snack, and show off her big dog energy in a small dog body. Adopt Dumpling and get a lifetime of bites of joy, one adorable wiggle at a time! Here's some notes from her foster: My favorite thing about dumpling is her silly ears that get flipped back sometimes when she hops into her bed. Dumpling would make a great companion to a very quiet low traffic household. She will take time to adjust but she will get there! Dumpling is very much a couch potato and will burry herself in a pile of blankets! Who wouldn’t love that? A perfect day for Dumpling would be a day of staying in snoozing and getting lots of chicken!

Story
Mickey has been part of our family since 2019, when we adopted him as an adult dachshund through a breed-specific rescue. He has lived with us in urban homes, settled easily into daily routines, and become a deeply bonded, affectionate companion. He is 13 and relatively healthy for his age. We are making the heartbreaking decision to rehome Mickey because he is unpredictable and aggressive toward our children. This was safely managed for the last 2.5 years through separation and careful routines, but the recent arrival of our second child has made the dynamic too challenging. Our goal is to place him in a quiet, adults-only home where he is the only dog (or maybe joining another dachshund or small dog). We’d love to keep in infrequent touch with his new family if you’re open to it. Please note that Mickey has a history of nipping unfamiliar adults and children (0-2 incidents per year). He has no issues with adults he knows including his many walkers and sitters over the years.
