Story
Lady Bio Lady is a sweet, sun-loving, senior chiweenie. She’s 11 years old, 12 lbs, and we count ourselves lucky she landed with us while she looks for her new home. One of the most snuggly, relaxed little lovebugs you’ll ever meet, Lady is looking to ideally stay in the south with some people who won’t leave alone much, since she loves the warm and the company.  Environment Lady is house trained—yay! And she doesn’t even need a fenced yard. This little lady is apartment friendly and loves to go for a walk. She doesn’t bark much except to say hi when someone comes to her door, so shared walls are totally fine. We’d say she’s a medium activity dog because although she’s a senior she does love kids and does well with a little energy. Lady is used to having people working from home and we’d love her to have that continue so that she has the attention and company she craves.  Pets & People Lady can be a little protective of her food and her bed, but she otherwise gets on well with other dogs. She’s not a fan of being surprised, so calm and careful introductions are necessary. Once that’s done, she enjoys their company. She’s great on walks and loves to meet new people of all shapes and sizes —especially if they’ll play with her toys or play fetch with her! Location Lady is available for adoption from Miami, FL and we’d like for her to settle nearby or somewhere equally warm. She’s good in the car so there’s not really a time restriction. Please email juliejohnson@littlepawsdr.org with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Lady is $250.00 Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.February 22, 2024, 7:42 am

Story
Penelope is a 12-year-old teeny weenie at just 9lbs. She would love to be adopted with her buddy Daisy. She is cute, cuddly, and gentle in nature. She came into rescue after one of her humans developed allergies, and is looking for a warm blanket to burrow her tiny self under in her new home.  Environment Penelope is mostly house trained but absolutely refuses to go outside in freezing cold or snow or rain. She understands pee pads but doesn’t always aim well. She is good to have free roam of the house with pee pads left out; she should not be left in a crate. Penelope likes to wander around the yard and does not require a fence if kept on a leash. She can walk short distances but in her senior years she doesn't need long walks anymore. Penelope will need people who are home a decent amount as she has separation anxiety. At times she can be heard barking while left alone without a human. She does fine when the human is in the house and on another level. But she knows once you have left! She loves treats but can be a picky food eater now that she has zero teeth and a tougher time picking up food. Generally Little P is a sweet, calm senior girl.  Pets & People Penelope is fine with other dogs but prefers low key personalities. She came in with another, bigger dachshund (Daisy) and they get along well but also keep to themselves.   Penelope is good with people, but she also likes to have her alone time. She greets new people with her loudest hello, but settles down eventually.  Location Penelope is available for adoption from the Boston area and we are ideally looking to get her adopted within a couple of hours drive because she hates the car and may be sick. Please email fosternorth@littlepawsdr.com with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Penelope is $250. Senior citizen to senior dog adoptions are $100.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.February 22, 2024, 7:42 am

Story
Daisy is a 9-year-old queen who is currently on a weight loss journey. She came in overweight at 27 pounds and is down to 25 pounds. She has a few more to go! Daisy came in with her buddy Penelope and we would like to see them adopted together. Daisy's 50% play fiend and 50% snuggle bug and she’s looking for a new home where she can find that balance after someone in the last one developed allergies. Daisy will be your shadow girl. Environment Daisy is house trained and pee pad trained. She does not need nor use a crate. She is trustworthy and can have free-reign. She LOVES walkies and sniffing around the yard. She is leash trained and barks a bit at people and a bunch at other dogs. She does not need a fenced yard but should remain tethered/leashed while in the yard. Daisy is ok by herself for a few hours at a time, but couldn’t handle a full work day alone so will need people who are home at least some of the day. She uses her big bark ™&#239&#184&#143 when she sees people/doggos out the window, and to greet new people entering the house.  Pets & People Daisy can be a bit selective about her doggy friends. She came in with another dachshund (Penelope) and they get along well but there should not be any other dogs in the home. And beware, this girl is a foodie! She will be your best sous chef and will try to steal all foods from little Penelope. Daisy is great with people once she feels comfortable around them. Her main priority is someone who can play and snuggle with her, and give her the attention she deserves. She loves to play with squeaky toys and tennis balls, but also loves to snuggle up against your leg on the couch. She does not like a busy house of people coming and going. Health Daisy needs to lose a bit of weight, but doesn’t have a prescription diet. She will steal food from other dogs if given the opportunity so needs to be fed separately. Daisy has a low grade heart murmur that does not require medication. Location Daisy is available for adoption from the Boston area and we are ideally looking to get her adopted within a couple of hours drive because she hates the car and may be sick. Please email fosternorth@littlepawsdr.com with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Daisy is $325.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.February 22, 2024, 7:42 am

Story
Rose is a sweet girl with a big personality. At 12 years old and 13.5lbs, she was rescued from a commercial breeder where she'd lived her whole life. Due to her traumatic past she is very nervous in new environments and averse to being touched. Whilst this may never change, she has already made huge progress in her foster home. Rose is looking for a loving home with people who can love her quirks and be with her a lot of the time.   Environment Rose is fully crate trained and house trained but will sometimes poop from fear if touched or picked up. She does especially well with routine. She is extremely fearful of a harness so she won’t walk on harness or leash, and will need her new home to have a fenced backyard to get her exercise and feel her freedom. She’s very good—no digging, no prey drive, she’s just a roaming explorer. Rose doesn’t bark a lot so shared walls would be ok, but as the backyard is not negotiable this rules out most apartments. Rose is very food motivated and trainable so she’s been learning basic commands and how to use a ramp to get on the furniture. Be sure to give her space if she chooses to share furniture with you and use high value treats to coax her in vulnerable situations. She LOVES food and hops up on her back legs when it’s meal time, ready to be your sous chef. Pets & People Rose adores other dogs and must be in a home with playmates! She gets so excited around other dogs that her tail almost becomes a propeller. As mentioned, she’s scared of people touching her but she still wants her people around. She loves company and will always prefer your company to being alone. She shows her love and appreciation in other ways, and her big expressive eyes will melt your heart. She is untested with children and caution will be needed since they can be unpredictable but she won’t mind them if they respect her boundaries.  Health Rose can get queasy in the car but Benadryl has helped in the past. She can’t go longer than 6 hours, and she will need time to get used to her crate for travel. If she is experiencing separation anxiety she shreds boxes or paper or gets into food, so take care not to leave these things accessible if she’s left alone! Location Rose is available for adoption from Christiansburg, VA. Please email stacyp@littlepawsdr.org with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Rose is $200.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.February 22, 2024, 7:42 am

Story
Meadow is a clever, curious, and playful ten-year-old girl. With the energy of a dog half her age, she explores, investigates, fetches, and zooms her way through life. She’s 10lbs of fun and love who finds herself looking for a new home after her previous owner could no longer afford to take care of a dog. Environment Meadow is fully crate trained and mostly house trained—aside from the odd excitement pee—but she needs a consistent routine. When not crated, she is let out every couple of hours. She needs to have ample time to do her business, otherwise she will occasionally do the dachshund thing and poop inside.  Meadow needs a fenced yard to get her exercise as she’s a flight risk and reactive to other animals. She’s not going to be a dog that’s sociable in public and is not great on a leash, so lots of 1:1 playtime in her own yard will be needed to stimulate her brain and tucker her out. Her favorite things to play are fetch and tug. She also loves to help you “recycle” by tearing up her toys and bedding. Her new home will need to be one without shared walls as she’s quite communicative at times. Some of this energy likely comes from a place of anxiety and we’re hoping that once she’s settled this will improve.  Pets & People Meadow loves her people but not new people and will take time to warm up when visitors arrive. However, she will calm down and allow affection after a while. We think Meadow wants all the attention for herself because she is not a fan of other animals around and will need to be the only dog in the family. Health Meadow is on anti-anxiety medication and will ideally have people around more often than not to assuage her anxiety.  Location Meadow is available for adoption from Laurel, Maryland. Please email agchomemaker@yahoo.com with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Meadow is $200.00. Story
Happy Gilmore is an 16 lb dachshund mix who we estimate to be between 12 and 13 years old. He was a stray, so his past life has made him very laid back. Although he is quiet, he knows exactly when you go to the kitchen and loves to follow you in hopes of a snack. Happy Gilmore is a sweet, chilled dude. And gets along with everyone including children and other dogs. A couch potato and a snoozer and will bark when you get home because gets excited to see you. He will happily sit next to you forever and only leaves when you get up. He goes to his bed every day when the sun goes down and sleeps through the night.    Environment Happy Gilmore is housetrained and understands “you want to go to potty”. He’s looking for a home with a fenced yard as that’s what he’s used to, and he likes to wander and sniff. He doesn’t really chase or dig, just likes to pootle around and come back inside once he’s done his business. Happy Gilmore would appreciate someone who doesn’t need to leave him alone too long, since he’s unknown on crate training. Shared walls are totally fine since he’s not super chatty.   Pets & People Happy Gilmore is great with people of all ages. He enjoys being petted and loved on, however, he doesn’t jump on and off the furniture and will need to be picked up. Happy Gilmore is good with other dogs and doesn’t have any issues with sharing treats or food despite his good appetite!    Training and Health Happy Gilmore has a grade six heart murmur and is heartworm positive, so he will need ongoing medication and to be kept comfortable. He willingly takes his medication because he’s such a foodie—and such a good boy, of course. He loves to go for a walk and see the sights and is very good on the leash.   Location Happy Gilmore is available for adoption from Milton, FL. He’s just fine in the car and is looking forward to a ride to his new home (hopefully very soon).   Please email cindybuck44@yahoo.com with any questions or complete an adoption application by clicking the button above. The adoption fee for Happy Gilmore is $200.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.February 22, 2024, 7:42 am
