Story
Oscar Meyer is a 3.5 year old Dachshund mix with soulful eyes and a sensitive heart. After spending time in a foster home, he’s found himself back at the shelter and is hoping his next stop is truly forever. Oscar can be unsure with new people and needs a little time to warm up, but once he feels safe, his gentle and dainty personality shines through. He walks nicely on leash and enjoys calm companionship. He isn’t much interested in toys or playtime right now, he seems to prefer quiet connection over chaos. Oscar does have some resource guarding around food, so he’ll need an experienced adopter who understands how to manage this and help him continue building positive habits. He would do best in a home with teens and up who can respect his space. Oscar Meyer may be a little unsure at first, but with patience, structure, and understanding, he has all the potential to be a loyal little companion. He’s just waiting for someone to see the sweet dog behind those cautious eyes.If you are interested in learning more contact our placement team at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter:E: Adoption@hempsteadny.govE: Foster@hempsteadny.govE: Rescue@hempsteadny.govT. 516.785.5220Wantagh Long Island, New York #longislandanimalshelter #dachshundmix #shortandsweet #rescuedachschund

Story
Brody - 2 years, 22lbs, Dachshund/Pekingese Mix, Neutered  This dog is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org Level of dog ownership experience required:BEGINNER – “Beginner” doesn’t necessarily mean easy as all dogs will require time, work, and patience, but we predict this dog will be low on the challenge scale because of their breed/age combo. Potentially a good fit for someone who has relevant dog care experience (fostering, dog sitting) and is looking to adopt their first pup.  Energy level:LOWER/MEDIUM – Pretty chill indoors and won’t demand endless amounts of stimulation and exercise but still needs to move thier body - a solid 30 to 45 minutre walk to start the day  and potty breaks -  to stretch their legs. Okay in the city?We don’t know yet because this pup is brand new to us. Most adult dogs do well in the city after they’ve had time to adjust to a new environment, but some never adapt and need homes in the burbs.  Potty trained?Probably! Adults usually are, but all will have transitional accidents for the first week or so. A consistent walking route and schedule plus finding spots with grass or dirt can help. Social with other dogs?Yes, but we don’t know to what degree yet. Some like to wrestle with every passing pup, others can coexist well but prefer to keep to themselves. We’ll learn more soon. Social with cats? Not sure yet! Some breed mixes that are generally NOT great matches for homes with cats include large hounds, huskies, and shepherds.  Comfortable with children?  (ALWAYS requires adult supervision)We’re not sure yet, but we try to err on the side of caution. Respectful kids ages 8 and up are probably a safe bet. Children must always be monitored and taught to interact with dogs of any age carefully.  Medical status:Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm tested if coming from Tennessee or Puerto Rico; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake How did this dog end up with Social Tees? Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Los Angeles, and Puerto Rico. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses. This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes. LEARN MORE ABOUT US: socialteesnyc.org and Instagram @socialteesnyc ##2668926##

Story
Meet Bernie! 2.5 months old | 6 lbs | Dachshund / Spitz Mix Bernie may be tiny at just 6 pounds, but this little guy has a BIG personality! This 2.5-month-old Dachshund/Spitz mix is energetic, playful, vocal, and absolutely full of life. Bernie loves to play — especially with other dogs. When he’s not zooming around, Bernie is a total cuddle bug. He loves being held, enjoys affection, and will happily follow you from room to room. He bonds quickly and wants to be wherever his people are. He’s very smart and already knows: ✔️ Sit ✔️ Come ✔️ Touch ✔️ His name (And he’s working on stay and down!) Bernie is: • Good with other dogs • Friendly with adults • Very food motivated • Low shedding Like any young puppy, Bernie is still learning. He's working hard on his crate training and house training. With patience, structure, and routine, he will absolutely improve — he’s just a baby figuring things out. Bernie would thrive with: • A patient adopter committed to puppy training • A home that can give him structure and routine • Possibly another playful dog • Someone ready for all the joy (and work!) that comes with a young puppy This tiny, spirited boy has so much love to give and will grow into an amazing companion with the right guidance. Story
Meet Loretta, a ridiculously adorable 7-month old, 21-pound Dachshund/Terrier mix who loves being next to anyone and everyone. She is a true Velcro dog who is excited to see you every time you walk through the door. So be prepared to share your personal space with this romantic soul! An attention seeker, Loretta enjoys being the center of your universe. She is friendly and gets along well with humans and dogs alike…but a slow introduction is best when it comes to unfamiliar pooches. Once she gets to know a dog, she will play with them all day long. And playful, she is. Balls and chew toys are among her favorites. Loretta doesn’t like loud noises and can be a bit tentative at first, but once she feels safe and gets used to her surroundings, you see her fears just melt away. Loretta has a huge heart, she is super affectionate, and she loves with intensity. She is a beautiful soul in every conceivable way. Loretta is fully housebroken, she’s been perfecting her leash manners, and at home, she regards her crate as her safe space. Loretta sits on command and comes when you call her name. Athletic and energetic, Loretta likes spending time outdoors and has a particularly fun time frolicking in the snow. When it’s time to chill out, Loretta is content to sit next to you on the couch and watch TV. In the car, this adventurous gal loves to ride shotgun! What a lovely co-pilot to accompany you on errands! If you’re in the market for an outstanding pup whose true fabulous self will only continue to emerge as she learns to trust and relax, then Loretta might be the right girl for you! If you would like to adopt this wonderful dog, please email rescue@pupstarzrescue.org or visit www.pupstarzrescue.org for an application!

Story
Meet Leota. We call her Lady because she has the personality of a sweet old lady in a tiny adorable body. She’s calm, cuddly, and the sweetest little companion you could ask for. She’s a total cuddle bug and loves to follow you around, just wanting to be near you. Lady is incredibly easygoing, adapts quickly to new routines, and is excited to be loved by anyone she meets! Whether it’s someone passing on the street, a barista at the coffee shop, or a guest coming into your apartment. She loves to be held by anyone and is easy to carry around. She rarely barks, and the only sign of anxiety is a quick shake that passes soon after. Leota also loves being wrapped in towels or blankets, relaxing to music or the sound of TV, and being cozy on the couch or her bed!    Personality & Characteristics: Super chill, low-maintenance, and affectionate. Loves to sleep, gets short bursts of energy, then happily passes out near you. Gentle, curious, and goes with the flow. She’s only stubborn about one thing: if you’re on the couch, she wants to be too. My foster dog is good with: Dogs (of all sizes) and new people (has loved everyone she's met from the street/my friends) . She’s curious and patient, waiting calmly for them to approach.  My foster dog is: Crate trained. Kind of house trained and pee pad trained, but will go outside if there’s grass or snow with a little patience. (has not had an accident on any carpets) Low shed. Potty Routine: Leota is mostly pee pad trained and will go outside if there’s grass or snow (just not concrete). We do 30–45 minute walks to help her feel comfortable outside, and she’s been doing great. She listens well and is very obedient, so she’ll be easy to fully potty train once she's somewhere permanent. A building with a green patch or a home with a backyard would be ideal for her. (If you’re in NYC and near a park, she’ll love it. Our closest park is a 10-minute walk to Tompkins Square Park, and she waits until we get there to pee once she sees grass!)    3 Keywords: Calm, curious, cuddly Energy Level (1 = calm, 10 = high): 3 Barker? Or Quiet Pup?: Very quiet, minimal barking, only heard her bark once for maybe 20 seconds on her first night with us (who can blame her!)  Walking Manners: She prefers to be held on walks. If loud cars pass, she may start shaking and freeze — that’s our cue to pick her up. Once she’s in a familiar area with grass or snow, she’ll walk slowly and calmly before asking to be carried again. She has gotten to know my street and the confidence has grown on walks in just 3 days!  Appetite: Good appetite, eats slow, I keep the food out for 30 minutes and she nibbles, walks around, nibbles, walks around, but will finish what you give her!   Favorite Things: Blankets, fluffy toys, peanut butter, The Farmer’s Dog food, warmth, friends, cuddles  Commands / Tricks: Comes when called, sometimes sits, answers to “Lady” ##2636505##
