Story
Hello everyone!! Meet Bruno! This is a special little dude. Bruno's story is a sad one, but you can complete his story and make it wonderful! Bruno was found by a kind soul in a small town in Georgia. He was originally noticed in a small dog crate sitting in someone's back yard. The crate had no roof or cover and he was found in the middle of winter. There was also no floor mat or walls in the crate so he was on the bare ground and exposed to any wind/rain :( The kind soul kept her eye on him and feeling heart broken for him, she decided to sneak into the back yard to see what she could do for the dog. She found that Bruno had no water or food bowl in the crate with him. It had been raining at that time, so it's assumed he was drinking rainwater. She began sneaking into the backyard daily to feed him and give water. She reports that he was basically skin and bones and scared to death. It was a horrible situation. After some time passed and the temperatures kept getting colder and colder, she worked up the nerve to confront the home owner. Turns out, Bruno was originally purchased as an emotional support animal but over time, he was forgotten. She asked the owner to surrender Bruno to her and that's where his happy ending began! He was brought under the fold of Deep South Canine Rescue to a foster home and received a warm kennel with plenty of hay for bedding, plenty of tasty food and treats, toys and clean water each day! No more cold winter nights. No more rain pouring over him. NO more neglect! He was taken to the vet where he was found to be positive for heart worms BUT HAS BEEN TREATED FOR HEARTWORMS ALREADY while at his foster home. BRUNO WILL NEED AN EXPERIENCED ADOPTER WHO UNDERSTANDS HIS BACKGROUND AND HAS PATIENCE. IT IS ALSO RECOMMENDED THAT HE BE PLACED IN A HOME WITH NO SMALL CHILDREN AND PREFERRABLY LIVE IN A SINGLE DOG HOME. This guy is probably one of the smartest dogs we've ever seen! He is SOOOO sweet once he trusts you. With his history, he doesn't trust people easily (can you blame him?) .... but once he does....WOW! JUST WOW! He is the most loving and caring dog. He CRAVES human affection and LOVES to please his "person". However, he is food aggressive. It is recommended that Bruno be allowed to eat by himself. With his history, it's easy to understand why he may be food aggressive but with adequate time and training, this can be corrected. At the foster home, he has never shown aggression towards, bitten or attacked humans at all, but he has curled his lip at other dogs around food. Bruno was evaluated by a highly renowned dog trainer in Georgia and he passed with FLYING COLORS on behavioral issues, activity with other dogs (not around food) and farm animals. He has not been evaluated around cats. At the evaluation, Bruno was very nervous because it was a new area with new people but once he began getting comfortable, he was playing and flirting with the other dogs. It just takes a little more time than usual with Bruno. Once you crack his shell, he is so wonderful and loves like no other. The evaluator recommended no small children only because of his history and to be on the safe side. He is working on his simple commands- sit, stay, heel, down, no, "leave it", etc. He has mastered sit, heel, down and no and is pretty good so far with stay and "leave it". He is also leash trained. This dog is so smart, we just can't let him stop now. With time, attention and adequate training- this is THE DOG you want on your side. Please contact Deep South Canine Rescue for more information and enjoy the attached video!! Thank you!!! Bruno can't wait to meet his new "forever" best friend!!

Story
Meet Guns! Guns was found with another dog (Dave) in a small town in Georgia. They seemed to be living on their own and had been for a while. They were hanging around a Dollar General and Guns had to be trapped before anyone could get him. Guns is a little reserved at first but will be your absolute best friend! Especially if his best Buddy Dave is there too!! These boys will be fine separated, but they thrive together and are a bonded pair. Please consider Dave also. These boys have been together for a while and thrive when they're together. Please contact Deep South Canine Rescue for further information on Guns or Guns and Dave!!

Story
Meet Dave!! Dave was found in a small town in Georgia (parking lot of a Dollar General) with his buddy guns. are a bonded pair they would be okay separated, but we would LOVE to keep them together. When the rescue was trying to catch them, Dave ran right to the rescuer. Guns however had to be trapped. Dave got back to the rescue and was warmed and fed and about an hour later, we received the call that Guns had finally gotten in the trap. So, we turned around and went back for Guns. When we got to him, he was pretty scared in the trap (especially without his best friend Dave) but once he got to the rescue and realized he was reunited with Dave, Guns lit up, danced and licked Dave's face like he hadn't seen him in years!! They are SO happy together. Please consider adopting both!! Please contact Deep South Canine Rescue for further information.

Story
Lita is a very special girl, she has a great capacity for love and affection, she is in need of a home that will be patient with her. We do not know what her past was like, she was found up by the Macon state prison with one of her puppies. Her puppy has found a new home. We have been working with her for about five months now, In that time she has learned to walk on a leash, like a good girl, learned to sit, and how to behave in her crate, and how to play fetch, she is great with other dogs, but does not like to share her toys, She has a lot of love to give for the right person. She is good with kids as long as they are older kids. She’s just a little too rambunctious for smaller children.. if you think you would be the right fit for this beautiful girl, please submit an application.

Story
Dottie is a sweet St. Bernard mix weighing in around 50 pounds. She is approximately 2-3 years old. Dot Dot as her foster folks affectionately call her was found the first week in October of 2023 along with her 4 pups. She was in sad shape, and it has taken 6 months to get her healthy. She is fully vaccinated to include bordetella, been treated for heart-worms, started on monthly heart-worm preventative, and has been spayed. She is playful, yet also calm. She is good with other dogs. She currently lives with 3 other female dogs. She is house trained and crate trained and has NEVER had an accident in the house. Dot knows the commands “sit”, “kennel” to get in her crate, “stay back” to not rush the door, and “down” when she gets excited and I want her to be calm. Dot comes when called. She enjoys riding in cars and on ATVs. She has never offered to chew on anything that’s not a dog toy. Dot loves the outside and spends most of her time on my front porch. Dot’s only con is that she loves to chase cats, but all 6 of our cats are still alive 6 months later…she just chases them and I haven’t been able to break that habit. She walks well on a leash with a regular collar, but I do use a “pinch collar” when I think we may encounter cats or other wildlife. She doesn’t love a bath, but she gets in the shower to be bathed without much fuss. I believe Dottie was likely just left to her own devices in a pen or on a chain before we found her abandoned on a rural dirt road. So she has had to learn to be a pet, but I think she is really enjoying the process. I would not call her food aggressive, but maybe food possessive…which I believe is a holdover from her not getting regular meals. I feed all the dogs in their own spaces to avoid confrontations and to make sure they all get what they need. Problem solved. She has come a long way and will make someone a loving and loyal pet.

Story
Meet Grayson! Grayson was found with his Mother and siblings they were all very hungry and had no one to take care of them, A local lady had agreed to Foster, She had them for about four weeks when we went to give them the first set of shots and What we arrived to was pretty horrible, I’m not going to go into detail, but we have worked tirelessly to get these puppies to come around. We believe that Grayson would do best in a home that can give him the time and attention that he needs. He really needs Know that he has a safe space, Grayson is friendly with other dogs and cats, He likes kids, but it would be best to have bigger kids that understand that he will need some time to come around. He is leash trained, And goes into a kennel nicely we’re still working on coming out of the kennel. He knows the “wait” command very well, Grayson has had tons of applications, but all of them fall through when we explain how shy he is. Beautiful inside and out he just needs Some consistency to let the inside shine. If you think you can be that person for him, please submit an application.
