Story
This sweet and delicate young girl will melt your heart the moment you meet her. She has been through a lot but nothing has managed to ruin her affectionate nature and people-loving disposition. She is vigorously cuddly and kissy when you sit down with her and fortunately (she says) she is deaf and can’t hear your pleas for mercy as you try not to open your mouth while you laugh out loud. Besides from that she is only of moderate energy level though it may increase as she grows healthier. Jasmine’s natural body structure makes her look even more worried and pitiful than her past and her feelings warrant but she is actually quite playful and makes hilarious facial expressions. She doesn’t quite seem to know about toys but enjoys exploring new objects and snack on sticks and chews. Jasmine is on a diet to get her to put on weight but it is turning out to be a slow process and she will probably always be on the skinny side. She may have a bit of sighthound in her. Jasmine gets along with other dogs and some cats. She does have some quirky behaviors around other dog when trying to play with them, which is common for deaf dogs since they don’t get the same feedback as normally hearing ones, and dogs that aren’t experienced can get put off by it. She is probably around 8 months old per beginning of November. Her breed is unknown. If you're interested in Jasmine please fill out a pre-adoption application on our website www.northernstardogrescue.org under "contact us" and return it to northernstardogrescue@gmail.com.

Story
Coal is true to his name in being only at the first step towards becoming a shining diamond. In his case it is guidance and encouragement, not pressure, that will get him there. He is friendly and sociable though worried about strangers at first. He is loyal and listens to his humans. Coal has the makings of a great companion! He is a little shy at first and will bark but warms up quickly. Then he is always by your side. Even though Coal looks like a lab in pics, I assure you the Dane is obvious; seeing him in person changes everything. Coal is just a big baby at around 1 years old as of the beginning of April. He was found dumped at Utah-Az boarder. It took animal control 3 weeks to trap him. He doesn’t quite understand his own size as is so often the case with this breed, especially while young, and though friendly to other dogs can overwhelm all but the most hardy. Providing regular sessions of vigorous exercise can really help keep him calmer around the house and when socializing. Teaching Coal to not jump will help a lot. He is still puppy just a big one at that. Hehe. Coal has been great with kids though again he may overwhelm the littler ones. He is good with some cats but doesn't understand his size. If you are interested in adopting him, please fill out the pre-adoption application for Northern Star Dog Rescue on Linktree, https://linktr.ee/northernstardogrescue Read more about our dogs on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/northernstardogrescue/

Story
Bear is a man's best friend & an old soul. He will follow any guy around wagging his tail with his big, goofy smile. He loves vehicles. I have never seen a dog so fascinated with them, his foster mom says. He loves riding in them and just hanging out while you work on a leak, or whatever it is you men do. He even put his paws up on the rubber to see what was going on up above. While Bear had the cone on after his neuter he put his head full force against my dad's car with no room for budging the door open. All he wanted was to go on a ride. He's a man looking for an adventure or a country boy that loves to roam around the country side and ride next to you in your heavy Chevy. Age: 4 years old per mid-April, 2023. Weight: 82lbs of love. Energy level: Low/medium. Potty trained: Yes. Leash: He likes to pull at first from excitement, it takes a few nudges to get him walking with a slack leash but he will. Kids: Yes. Toys: He loves bones, Kongs, seemed interested in chasing a ball. Likes to think he can catch birds. Cats: No. Livestock: Unsure- possibly likes to herd/chase. Dogs: No unfixed males. Females and fixed males- OK. Favorite pose: lifting his paw for you to hold. Breed: Unknown. Could have German shepherd, Labrador retriever, Chow and more - or none of those.

Story
Blanco is a very happy guy; he loves to run and play and resembles a horse, especially as his long legs give him a ground covering stride. He equally loves to snuggle and truly believes he is a lap dog. He loves to lay across your lap and squirm around like a toddler. He doesn't like to be "patted" as that seems a bit fear inducing to him, but he likes to be petted in other ways. Blanco needs an experienced owner who won’t let him get away with being pushy when he wants something. Seriously, personal boundaries are not his forte. Do we hear people say: “Duh, he is a husky!”? Consequently, he jumps on people and gets a little nippy when he first meets them or when he gets excited but he settles back down pretty quickly, at least with adults. We haven’t seen him with medium or young children but he would probably get too rambunctious with them as he jumps on big kids. Blanco enjoys playing in the backyard as long as someone is with him. If that person goes inside, he scales the 4 or so foot fence or opens the gate. Luckily, he comes running as soon as called since he isn’t trying to run off but to get back with his people. He will need a tall fence to keep him contained. He does well to sit and will play fetch. Blanco does great in a 6’ tall chain-link pen in a climate-controlled garage with Coco and rarely has accidents. He goes right in when his foster mom opens the door. Surprisingly he hasn't torn up his bed or any toys. In fact, his foster mom hasn’t seen any destructive behavior. He tolerates a bath and enjoys being brushed – and regular brushing is needed! He doesn’t resource guard, but he will push other dogs away from “his” person and can be kind of rude about it. Fireworks and loud noises don't bother him. Blanco has been good with dogs in some situations and not others. He seems okay meeting new dogs but once they start to share space and he bonds to people he is less amenable, especially if his “backup”, Coco is with him. There is a dynamic between them that can be problematic, especially when they gang up, and they will probably do best if adopted into separate homes. Skills and sociability with cats - saw the family cat through the window and didn't care. Skills and sociability with other animals - not tested. Takes to one person mostly or the whole family? So far, mostly takes to his foster mom. Leash walking - does ok. Off leash - does well. In car - does great. In public places - does ok. Responding when called – great. Barking/howling/talking - high pitched bark when he's ready to be let out or he sees another dog in his territory. Crate and kennel trained – yes. Door dashing, runs off – sometimes. Stealing food from kids/counter surfing – no. Ok in apartment? - yes, if he gets to go out enough. Blanco is approximately 1 year old as of June, 2023 and probably a Siberian husky mix. He arrived with Coqueta (Coco) from California on June 10. They were surrendered from the same household to a shelter there. If you're interested in Blanco, please fill out the pre-adoption application on Linktr.ee/northernstardogrescue

Story
Coco is very sweet. She loves being petted and wags her tail the entire time her person is talking to her and petting her. She enjoys running and playing. She's completely fine on her own, displaying almost aloof behavior and an independent personality. Once she has done her own thing, she's happy to come get love. She does not jump on people and is very gentle. She has an adorable, prancy trot. Since she seems to be good with everyone in the household, she should make a really nice family pet. That being said, she resource-guards food which could create issues with young children and toddlers. With dogs she can participate in a training session with treats involved (assuming they do not get scattered on the ground) but must be fed her meals separately. Coco will generally sit when asked. When her foster mom throws a toy, she runs to it, but doesn't pick it up. She is great on leash and off leash she mostly comes when called when there are not very powerful distractions around. She is housetrained and does well staying in a kennel run in the garage when her foster mom leaves. When someone is home she barks & whines to let you know she's ready to go out. She hasn't displayed any destructive behavior and could probably do fine in an apartment as long as she gets a decent amount of exercise and mental stimulation (like sniff walks). She does great in a car; just sits in seat! She alert-barks when new people come to the home but is generally friendly with strangers. Coco’s interaction with other dogs in the home is mixed. She is fine with Blanco who she lived with before and may be her son though they get problematic together when they go into pack mode. She started out okay in her foster home with the resident male dog but then began picking fights so she and Blanco can no longer be together with that dog; this may be a pattern of not accepting other dogs once she starts settling in and feeling at home. Skills and sociability - with toddlers – unknown but probably good unless there is food involved. - with young kids – same as toddlers. - with big kids – good. - with familiar dogs outside the home – unknown. - with new dogs - some good interactions, some not. - with cats – unknown. - with other animals – unknown. Coco will need a 4-5’ fence or so; she paces the fence looking for a way out and if she sees an open door or gate she will take off. Her full name is Coqueta (Hispanic for "one who flirts") but her foster mom has been calling her Coco. She arrived with Blanco on June 10, 2023. They were surrendered from the same household to a California shelter. Coco is possibly a purebred Siberian husky. We're guessing she's about 2.5-3 years old. She was spayed in June.
