Story
Almost 4 years old, we have had her for about a year now. She’s in a home with dogs, cats, and small children and does really well with them all. Does not crate well, does have anxiety issues. Does not have medication for it. Bella would strive in a home that either has a fenced in yard or active parents who can take her on regular walks or activities. Does really well in public & dog parks! She is a super loving and cuddly dog. Loves having dog and kid siblings!

Story
Buddy is a sweet, goofy, intelligent, and loving boy. His third birthday was November 16th 2024. He loves to eat snow and play in the yard. He’s very food motivated and is very well trained. He’s crate trained, knows sit, lay down, roll over, drop it, back up, and even knows whisper. He’s still working on leash manners but responds to treats very well. We’re in the middle of renovating our home and with our work/home schedules we haven’t been able to give Buddy the attention needs and deserves. We’re not sure how Buddy is with other dogs or cats. He loves people, adults and kids, and just wants pets and to give kisses. Buddy would do best in a home with a yard and big fence with plenty of toys. Rope toys and a flirt pole have been the most successful when it comes to play time, but he also just likes running around with his people and enjoying being outside. We love Buddy very much and will be very selective of who adopts him.

Story
Guinness is the sweetest dog. He’s very gentle and loving, but he requires a ton of attention. Attention that unfortunately we can’t give him at our current stage of life. Without attention he becomes anxious and pees inside. He will throw other fits out of anxiety such as moving his food bowl all around the house, digging the floor, peeing and pooping around the house. With a ton of attention, these behaviors are less. We got Guinness from a pet store when he was six months old and have been his only owners. He will be 13 at the end of September. He is still very healthy, but does seem to have some hearing loss. We don’t really want to re-home him, but we know it’s not fair to him to keep him with us since he’s not getting the attention he needs and deserves. He needs a home where he is preferably the only pet and can be given a lot of attention.

Story
My name is Penny and I’m looking for my forever home. My must haves are: a patient forever family who will help me continue to learn to trust humans, and a securely fenced yard, since I am not yet comfortable walking on leash. A resident dog or two is recommended. I’m 6 years old and I came to SIRA from a commercial breeding facility where I was a breeder mama. When the breeder didn’t want me anymore, SIRA rescued me and brought me to my foster home here in Davenport, IA. I was so scared when I first arrived here – it’s so different than everything I knew. It has taken me some time to learn that humans here are kind to me. I’m still very cautious, but I am learning that attention from humans can be nice. My foster mom sometimes brings me over to the couch to sit on her lap. That feels nice and cozy and I will happily stay there. But when humans are moving around, I move away or just stay in my safe spot. I’m also figuring out that the humans here have yummy things to eat! It’s taken me a while, but I’m brave enough now to take treats from my foster mom’s hand. There are other dogs here in my foster home and I like them. We like to play together, especially around bedtime when I start to get the zoomies. I am a healthy girl – spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations, and I weigh around 18 lbs. My perfect forever family will be experienced with dogs like me who are shy and skittish. I’d love to have another nice dog friend or two to play with. They really help me feel safe and learn all about being a treasured family member. I haven't had the chance to meet any cats or small kids, so I don't know what I'd think of them. If you live in the Midwest and are interested in a sweet, shy, Pretty Penny to be by your side, the first step is to visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to start the application process. Applying helps SIRA learn more about you so they can make sure we’ll be a good match. Once approved, they’ll introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet.

Story
Maze is sweet and energetic. We found her on the streets a couple years back and exhausted our efforts trying to find her owners. At the time the shelters were at capacity and being animal lovers we couldn’t just let her roam the streets. We took her in and have been caring for her since. We are wanting to find her a home with someone who has more time for her. We do have other dogs that she gets along with and 1 that she doesn’t get along with. We also have 2 cats that she’s pretty curious about but has never tried to harm them. She has a bit of separation anxiety that has come on more recently, probably by our own doing unknowingly. She does not tend to go to the bathroom in the house as long as she is given ample time outside. Our family currently just has a lot going on and it has become difficult to match her energy. I believe she would do better with someone or a family that can better accommodate her level of energy. We did get her spayed and she is current on her rabies shot.
