Story
Meet Della, a beautiful 4 year old husky pit bull mix who is patiently waiting for her fresh start this spring. 💛 While she can be a bit shy at first, Della truly shines with a gentle, understanding approach. Once she feels comfortable, she reveals her affectionate, cuddly nature and love for outdoor adventures and belly rubs. Della would thrive with a dog-savvy adopter who can provide the guidance, patience, and active lifestyle she needs to continue building confidence. She is best suited for an adult-only home where she can be the only pet, allowing her to fully relax and form a strong bond with her person. Della’s story is especially meaningful to our shelter. She was deeply loved by longtime volunteer Brian T. Parkinson, who dedicated years to caring for our dogs. As shared in his obituary, “In keeping with his compassionate spirit, Brian’s final wish was to see Della, his favorite shelter dog, find a loving home.” Since his passing in May 2025, Della continues to wait for that special someone. This spring, we hope to honor Brian’s memory by helping Della find the loving home he wished for her. We invite you to visit, learn more about Della, and consider opening your heart and home to this deserving girl. 🐾

Story
At just 1 year old and 78 pounds, Goose is a lovable Sheepadoodle who brings together playful goofball energy and the sweetest cuddle-bug personality. He enjoys stretching his long legs in a fenced yard, zooming around in bursts of joy, and soaking up attention from his favorite people. Whether he’s out exploring or leaning in for affection, Goose is happiest when he’s by your side. Goose is a smart, fun, and affectionate boy who is still learning some important life skills. He does have a history of resource guarding around food and toys, so he will need a dog-savvy adopter who is committed to continuing positive training and helping him build confidence and good manners. Because of this, he may do best as the only pet in an adult-only home where he can feel secure and supported while he continues to grow. Like many doodle breeds, Goose’s beautiful coat will require regular grooming to keep him comfortable and looking his best. His future family should be prepared for routine grooming appointments and consistent coat care at home. Goose is still young and full of potential, with a lifetime of love, learning, and adventures ahead of him. He’s looking for a patient, experienced home that will appreciate his goofy charm, guide him through his training journey, and give him the stability he needs to thrive. He is in our Paws Forward Program, so he gets 3 free training sessions with Janette from Kind K9s! Medical Note: Goose recently tested positive for Lyme disease, a tick-borne illness. Many dogs with Lyme disease never show symptoms and go on to live normal, happy lives. His adopter should continue routine veterinary care and maintain year-round flea and tick prevention. Our staff is happy to discuss his medical history and answer any questions. Could Goose be the missing piece your family has been waiting for? Come meet this sweet, silly giant and see why everyone falls in love with him! 🐾🪿💕 Can’t adopt? Please share!

Story
Looking for a loyal best friend who just wants to be your girl? Meet Dolly, a sweet 3-year-old mixed breed with a heart full of love just waiting to be shared. Dolly can be a little shy when meeting new people, but don't let that fool you, once she knows you're kind, she warms up quickly and will happily soak up all the attention. She absolutely loves going for walks, exploring the world by your side, and then coming home to relax with her favorite person. Because Dolly prefers a calmer environment, she would do best in a home without young children. She's looking for someone who understands that the best relationships are built on patience and trust, and once you've earned hers, you'll have a devoted companion for life. If you're searching for a dog who wants nothing more than to make you the center of her universe, Dolly is ready to make you the center of hers. Come meet Dolly today! Can't adopt? Please share!

Story
Prince Bubba is a handsome 5-year-old German Shepherd with a big personality, a playful spirit, and enough intelligence to keep you on your toes! This sweet boy loves to have fun, enjoys being with his people, and is always ready for his next adventure. Like many smart Shepherds, Prince Bubba thrives when he has structure and a job to do. He's energetic and would benefit from continued obedience training to help him become the very best version of himself. He's looking for a dog-savvy adopter who understands the breed and is excited to build a strong bond through positive training. The good news? He's already set up for success! Prince Bubba is part of our Paws Forward Program, which means his adopter will receive three free training sessions with Janette from KindK9s to help build confidence, strengthen communication, and set everyone up for success. Prince Bubba is also heartworm positive, but don't let that scare you away. He has a treatment plan already in place, and our team will walk his adopter through every step of the process. With proper treatment and care, many heartworm-positive dogs go on to live happy, healthy lives. If you're looking for a loyal companion, a fun training partner, and a dog who will reward your time and dedication with unwavering love, Prince Bubba is waiting to meet you. Come see why this royal pup deserves a kingdom of his own!

Story
Everybody needs a Daryl. ❤️ You know that one friend who's a little quiet when you first meet them, but before long they're your favorite person? That's Daryl. This handsome 1-year-old mixed breed (possibly hound, possibly shepherd, definitely 100% good boy) may be a bit shy at first, but give him a little patience and you'll discover an incredibly sweet, intelligent companion who's just waiting for someone to believe in him. Daryl is the kind of dog who watches, learns, and thinks before he acts. His gentle nature and sharp mind make him a wonderful candidate for continued training, and there's no doubt he'll blossom in a home that gives him the confidence to shine. Daryl is Ehrlichia positive, a tick-borne disease that many dogs respond well to treatment and routine veterinary care. Our team will be happy to discuss what this means and answer any questions so you can feel confident welcoming him home. Please note: Daryl is not currently at our Adoption Center, so he is available by appointment only. To schedule a time to meet him, give us a call at 309-787-6830 or fill out an adoption application here: https://new.shelterluv.com/form/other/QCAW/63240-qcawc-adoption-application He's still so young, with his whole life ahead of him, and all he really needs is someone willing to give him a chance. Once you're part of Daryl's circle, you'll have a loyal friend who's always happy to see you. So, if your home has been missing a Daryl... we'd love to introduce you to the best one around. Can't adopt him? Please share!
