Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Aries Aries is a large boy who was surrendered when his owners could no longer keep him. Once Aries is comfortable with people, he solicits attention and loves to lean in for petting. He loves to play with tennis balls in the yard and is content to toss them in the air and catch them. Aries has good leash manners leash manners and has reliable 'sit', 'down ', 'wait' cues. Aries would be best in an adult home and would thrive as the only pet where he can have all the attention and training!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 4, 2025, 10:05 am

Story
Dog Name: Minnie Mouse Breed: Mixed Breed Sex: Female Age: 11 months (estimated) Weight: 24 Medical Needs: Spay appointment scheduled September 2nd in Newark at Humaine Animal Partners. Keeping this appointment is a requirement for adoption. Must live within one hour of Newark. Housebroken: Yes. Once comfortable in her environment, on a schedule, and knows where to go. Crate trained: Does require coercion but is comfortable in her crate. Can be a little vocal at times, settles quickly. Good in the car: Yes. She’s a little nervous at first but settles in. Good on a leash: Yes. She is especially better with a dog that is good on walks. Energy level: High. She enjoys her walks but needs to be taught how to play. Need a fenced in yard: No. Only if walking or running with her a lot but her foster family has one and she enjoys getting her zoomies out. Dog Friendly: Yes If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? No, but it may be best as she needs to be taught how to be a good dog. Cat Friendly? Yes. She is curious but doesn’t chase them. Kid Friendly: Yes If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? Over 8. She’s still got a lot of puppy in her and needs to be taught manners. Recommend kids who have the ability to correct her. Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them? Minnie likes to steal other dogs toys from their mouth and then chew it right in front of them - that’s the extent of how she plays. She’s just a puppy who has had a rough start and needs a family who is willing to teach her from the ground up. This includes staying off the table if it’s accessible. She’s has the potential to be an amazing pet. Story
Dog Name: Liberty Breed: Mixed Sex: Neutered Male Age: 9 mos. Weight: 42 lbs. Medical Needs: None Housebroken: He has not had any accidents in the house in weeks. However, he is still learning to alert before pooping in his crate rather than after. He has improved (great 95% of the time) and hasn’t had any crate messes for the last couple of weeks. Crate trained: Mostly. He goes right in for a treat. He will bark or whine for the first few minutes, then settle down. He winces about 5 a.m., wanting to come out and sleep a couple of more hours on a pet bed outside of the crate. Good in the car: Yes. He has managed to overcome his carsickness and now can travel short distances without any issues. Good on a leash: Overall, he does great. I do use a prong collar to help with the sudden jerks. He usually walks beside me. If I stop walking, he usually stops and sits. Energy level: Medium. Liberty has some puppy energy, which he releases by playing/chasing/zooming with the resident dog. After a good play or walk, he sacks out for an hour or two. Need a fenced in yard: It would be beneficial for his zoomies, but not necessary as long as he has frequent leashed walks. Dog Friendly: YesIf yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? Preferable, but not necessary. He has always been with other dogs, so it will take an adjustment period and you being his playmate. Cat Friendly? He does not attack them, but he will give chase if they taunt him. One of my cats is bold as brass and tries to rub against him. Most stay clear of him or know how to stand their ground. A couple of swipes, and he backs off. He would rather play with his dog pals, and when he is doing that, he doesn’t care if there is a cat nearby. Kid Friendly: Yes. He tends to be scared at first meetings, but warms up quickly to the attention. If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? Any with appropriate supervision to control his puppy energy. He occasionally wants to jump up on you, but is quickly learning, “Off.” Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them? Liberty spent the first four months of his life in a shelter with no outside kennel time. He had to learn all the normal dog behaviors – scent-sniffing, playing, doing his business outside, and trusting he wasn’t going to go hungry. He enjoys playing with squeaky toys, chasing and playing with dog pals, and chewing on a Nyla bone. Liberty does have some food aggression, wanting his and everyone else’s food. However, feeding him in his crate and leaving him there until all his pals are finished works well. Treats should be handed to each dog individually (no free throwing treats – it will get intense). He is new to living in a family home, so he will need consistent training to be a well-behaved, happy dog. He is a loving, sweet dog who is ready to give you all the love and happy tail wags for giving him a forever home. She currently is with 2 Goldens without issue CAT FRIENDLY: has not been tested KID FRIENDLY: has not been exposed to kids TRAITS THAT MAKE YOUR FOSTER SPECIAL OR THAT WE NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THEM: Cass is a very active, alert girl that needs a special home with patience to let her grow into the good dog we know is in there. Cass is not destructive and is cuddly when she gets comfortable in her surroundings.  FOSTER’S LOCATION: Milton, Delaware Application can be found here: https://www.grrde.org/adoption-application If you already have an approved application on file email GrassRootsDE@gmail.org and ask the app team to pull your application ##2453722##
