Story
Meet FRANCO, a 2yo shepherd/malinois mix. We rescued FRANCO from the Downey shelter where he had shown up with a broken leg. He's long since healed up and he's looking for a forever home with someone who ideally has "shepherd and/or working dog" experience. FRANCO is a young, athletic dog who responds well to a confident leader. He is very loving, attentive, and loyal. He likes long walks, jogs, and he LOVES playing in water. He has been working with a trainer each week who has been teaching him and exposing him to different activities and environments and attends a small group class Check out video of him working the "lunge line" and other videos https://youtu.be/qakqEbGqKBg https://www.instagram.com/p/CZC4rD2PgvX/ https://www.instagram.com/p/CYxeijXp4zZ/ If you adopt FRANCO - he comes with a limited number of free sessions with his trainer (depending on location) to help you get off to a great start! FRANCO is about 70lbs and currently at our kennel in South Gate. He is crate-trained, house-trained, neutered, microchipped and current on vaccinations. If you are in the Los Angeles area and interested in meeting FRANCO, please fill out our brief online questionnaire (copy and paste link): www.downtowndogrescue.org/adoption-questionnaire Additional Downtown Dog Rescue information email: adopt@downtowndogrescue.org or call: 818-407-4145

MEET SULLY...a 7 year old gentle giant who we rescued from South LA shelter. He was surrendered by his family who could no longer keep him after spending most of his life with them. They described him as gentle, relaxed, respectful and playful and we agree! SULLY has a calm demeanor and has met and played with big and small dogs. He likes to play fetch and has been friendly with everyone he's met. Sully has hip dysplasia and arthritis in his left knee and back which are conditions that can be managed with medications, supplements and exercise modifications. Nice easy walks and ideally no stairs would be just his style. SULLY is neutered, microchipped, up to date on shots and currently weighs about 90lbs. If you are in the Los Angeles area and interested in meeting him, please fill out our brief online questionnaire and our volunteer adoption team will contact you: www.downtowndogrescue.org/adoption-questionnaire Additional Downtown Dog Rescue information email: adopt@downtowndogrescue.org or call: 818-407-4145

Story
Hello everybody, I am currently trying to rehome my 5 year old German Shepherd. I got her when she was a puppy back when I lived in Virginia. She’s a good dog that needs lots of attention and a lot of exercise to keep her busy. Unfortunately I am moving out of state and I cannot take her with me. I don’t want to take her to a shelter because I want her to go to a good home. Her shots are not currently up to date but working on getting them done.

Kodak IS AVAILALBE (updated 09-22-2023).To meet any of our dogs you must first complete our online adoption application on our website. For more information and the adoption application for Kodak, please visit our website belowhttp://www.coastalgsr.org/dog_profile.php?ID=22179&name=KodakKodak is an adorable and active (we aren&#39t sure that there&#39s been a word created that truly expresses or characterizes the energy level of a young Belgian Malinois, but we&#39re settling for &#39active&#39 today) Mal pup who was originally purchased by a family who hadn&#39t had a Maligator before and they weren&#39t even his first owners! At just two years old, Kodak had already been in 3 homes. This is a very driven working breed and they do not make good couch potatoes nor are they happy with just two walks a day.Now around 4 years old, Kodak is sweet, happy, friendly, and fast became a volunteer favorite. Initially, he may bark in new situations, but he warms up quickly, knows basic obedience, and is good on a leash. He absolutely adores toys of all kinds and can spend hours chasing down balls (i.e. drive for dayyyyyyys).Kodak has good food and toy drive, so he excels in obedience classes. He bonds quickly, wants to be with you, and will be a wonderful addition to his new family as long as they make a commitment to giving him the training and guidance that he needs. He will do best in a home with no young children. Please know that WE WILL ONLY PLACE HIM IN A HOME WITH PREVIOUS MALINOIS EXPERIENCE.Watch his video here. The minimum adoption donation for adults is $375 and the adoption donation for puppies is $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is tax deductible. The adoption donation provides that all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis ( i.e., puppies who will need to be altered by 6 mos old). Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.September 22, 2023, 5:29 am

Leah IS AVAILALBE (updated 09-22-2023).To meet any of our dogs you must first complete our online adoption application on our website. For more information and the adoption application for Leah, please visit our website belowhttp://www.coastalgsr.org/dog_profile.php?ID=22329&name=LeahLeah came to us a terrified, shut down, feral dog whom animal control had confiscated from a very bad situation. She was so shut down, it took a long (long!) time to get her to allow any type of interaction with humans. We spent month after month earning her trust, socializing her, and teaching her to overcome her many fears. Around 3 years old, she moved from the training facility into a foster home and is doing fantastic, but will need a special adopter. At first, she was scared to enter the house, the tile scared her, and it took coaxing for her to enter. Leah now seeks affection, is playing with toys, plays with her human foster, is totally comfortable being inside, crate trained, potty trained, and is learning that the world isnâ&#194&#128&#194&#153t such a scary place. She went to the beach for the first time and loved it!While she&#39s your normal, energetic Maligator in her foster home, she is still figuring out the world outside of those doors. She spends time every day being exposed to new things, but when she&#39s scared she does try to bolt. She used to hit the end of the leash and frantically chew to break free (which is why she wears a long fur saver), but now, when something new and loud is that scary, she bolts and stops when she hits the end of the leash, even going into a sit. Leah is a jaw snapping, toy playing, chew obsessed Malinois in her home and is going to need someone who understands Mals, who can supply structure, who is patient, and who can slowly build trust with her. Because she&#39s such a flight risk, we are going to be very careful about where we place her, because she means the world to us.The minimum adoption donation for adults is $375 and the adoption donation for puppies is $500. They were being given away &#39free to good home&#39 and were rescued by an animal lover who didn&#39t want to see them land in the wrong hands! Fiona settled into the kennel life very easily and charmed her way into the hearts of all of the volunteers. She needed treatment for a cancerous tumor that she likely got when she became pregnant with her pups. The good news here is that she is done with her treatments and has been cancer free for over 6 months! Yay for Fiona! Fiona would love a home to call her own. She has been to obedience training, knows all her basic commands and walks well on a leash. She would do best in a home with older kids and no other dogs or cats. She loves car rides and would love an active lifestyle! If Fiona sounds like a fit for you, please let us know.
