Story
Meet Our Handsome Shepherd Husky Mix! &#226&#156&#168This striking boy isn’t just handsome—he’s also smart and well-mannered! He has completed training classes and knows all the basics: sit, down, stay, and come. He’s crate trained, settles easily, and thrives on a steady routine. With his balanced energy, he’s the best of both worlds: he loves going on walks and playing in the yard, but he’s just as happy to snooze on the couch by your side for most of the day. With a high prey drive, he needs a home without small dogs or cats. He’s still learning how to make slow, friendly introductions to other large dogs, but he’s eager to please and continues to make great progress. He would do best in an only-pet home until he's had more work on his social skills. He's a great people-dog however, and has no problem making new human friends.Garrus is looking for a home where he can keep learning and enjoy plenty of love and companionship. Could he be your new best friend? &#226&#157&#164&#239&#184&#143&#226&#156&#133 Neutered&#226&#156&#133 Vaccinated&#226&#156&#133 Microchipped&#226&#156&#133 Treated for fleas and worms Interested in meeting Garrus? Please email: adoption@columbiahumane.org for an application.Adoption Fee: $350For more information call 503-397-4353 or email adoption@columbiahumane.orgNovember 13, 2025, 6:25 am

Story
Meet Lobo Breed: German Shepherd Mix DOB: June 10, 2024 Weight: 62 pounds Intake Date: 2023 Neutered/Spayed: Neutered Personality - A Gentle Soul with a Brave Heart Lobo is a shy but incredibly sweet boy who has made amazing progress during his time in the Paws to Prison training program, where he’s been for the past six months. When he first arrived, Lobo was very timid and unsure of people. He had likely grown up in a sanctuary environment, surrounded mostly by other dogs with limited human interaction. People were new and a little scary — but with time, patience, and consistency, Lobo has blossomed into a loving, playful companion with those he knows and trusts. Through his work with dedicated inmate handlers and trainers, Lobo has gained confidence, structure, and important life skills. He now walks beautifully on a leash, responds well to basic commands, and enjoys calm, quiet affection from those he’s bonded with. He’s also crate-trained, house-trained in a structured environment, and thrives on routine. Lobo has a gentle and sensitive personality. He is not fear-aggressive — if he’s unsure, he simply prefers to hang back or do his signature “stop-and-flop” move, laying down until he feels safe again. Once he feels comfortable, his affectionate and playful side shines through. He loves roaming walks, exploring open spaces, and being around friendly dogs. Because of his background and athletic ability (he’s quite the escape artist and can easily clear a 5-foot fence!), Lobo will do best in a secure, fenced yard with plenty of room to explore. He’s not suited for apartment living and would thrive with an active family who enjoys outdoor activities like hiking or exploring. Lobo would also benefit from having another confident dog in the home — a buddy who can help continue to guide him and show him that new experiences aren’t so scary after all. He is respectful and neutral around cats. Lobo is looking for an experienced, patient adopter who can offer him the time, structure, and gentle encouragement he needs to continue growing. He’s come such a long way and is ready to start the next chapter of his life — one filled with love, safety, and adventure. If you’re someone who understands that trust takes time but is deeply rewarding, Lobo will be your loyal companion for life. &#226&#157&#164&#239&#184&#143 What You Should Know Before Adopting Lobo Bringing a dog like Lobo into your home is a rewarding commitment. Before applying, please consider: Time: Dogs like Lobo need daily exercise, training, social interaction, and attention. Finances: Food, vet care, grooming, toys, and training are all regular expenses. Allergies: Make sure no one in the household is allergic to dogs. Housing: Ensure your landlord or building permits dogs, and that your home has enough space for an active medium-to-large breed. 3-3-3 rule: Lobo will need time to adjust. 3 Days: Feeling overwhelmed and unsure. 3 Weeks: Settling in and learning the routine. 3 Months: Feeling secure, confident, and at home. Every dog adjusts at their own pace — patience and consistency make all the difference. &#226&#157&#164&#239&#184&#143 &#226&#128&#139 Owner Responsibilities When you adopt Lobo, you’re making a promise to care for him physically and emotionally. This includes: Daily walks, playtime, and mental enrichment Proper nutrition and veterinary care Kind, consistent training and structure Never leaving him chained or tethered outside &#226&#157&#164&#239&#184&#143 A Commitment for Life Lobo isn’t just looking for a place to stay—he’s looking for a lifelong companion. Adopting him means welcoming a loyal friend who will love you unconditionally. In return, he deserves patience, love, and a forever home where he is treated as family.
