Meet Flacko ******Please note, once completing the initial screen you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************ We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you area not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Flacko is a neutered , 8 month old male German Shepherd Dog mix, weighing around 40lbs. He is in a foster home in Houston , TX, and can transport out of state once an approved adopter is found. Handsome Flacko is a a certified good boy! He LOVES people, dogs and really wants the foster cat to be his buddy. He may have too much enthusiasm for most kitties to enjoy however. He’s a quick learner & he just wants to please you. All he’s missing now is his forever person! This energetic pup is a bit of a wild man when playing with his dog friends (15-60lbs), but is great at reading their cues and respecting their boundaries. Flacko got an A++ from Doggie Daycare Playgroups and enjoys snuggling with a smaller puppy friend. Flacko has been great with his foster’s 10 year old nephew and they feel he’d enjoy a human sibling to play with. He is working on his puppy manners, jumping and pulling on a leash, so would need to be supervised around the smaller kiddos. After a rollicking play session, Flacko loves getting cuddle time with his people, rolling over to show his belly! He is a HUGE fan of pool time and will entertain himself with his favorite toys. This good boy is house and crate trained and will flourish with an experienced adopter that will help him navigate the world with confidence. Flacko is ready to win your heart, and we can’t wait to watch him grow up in a loving forever home! ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. *** Interested in applying to adopt him? We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Meet Tommy – The Gentle Giant with the Million-Dollar Smile Tommy is a 3-year-old, 75-pound German Shepherd mix with a heart as big as his grin. He was rescued from an overcrowded Houston shelter and came to us extremely shy, fearful, and unsure of the world- likely the result of a very troubled past. For months, he needed very patient, gentle fosters to help him feel safe. Because he was given that time, love, and consistency, Tommy has blossomed into the sweetest, calmest, most loyal companion. But it’s important for future adopters to know: Tommy absolutely requires a slow warm-up. He needs people who understand that trust for him is built quietly, steadily, and on his timeline. Once he lets you in, though… it’s magic. In his foster home, Tommy quickly found comfort in his kennel, learned to use the doggy door, and chose an elevated bed as his favorite spot. He’s a slow-paced, easygoing guy who loves lounging on the porch, stretching in the sunshine, and - his signature move - lifting his face to sniff the breeze with a big, content smile. Tommy will likely thrive best in a home with another confident, friendly dog. He adores following another dog’s lead, which helps him feel braver and more secure during new experiences. As his foster family, we LOVE Tommy deeply. We are committed to being an ongoing resource for his success. If, for any reason, the adoption isn’t the right fit, please reach out - we will gladly take Tommy back and continue fostering him to ensure he finds the most perfect home. If you’re looking for a calm, gentle soul who will be your quiet shadow, your breeze-sniffing porch buddy, and your loyal friend once he trusts you, Tommy may be the perfect match you’ve been waiting for. ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. *****Please note, once you complete the initial screening, you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision-making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Sophie is a 6-year-old, 56lb spayed German Shepard mix. She is currently in a foster home in Houston, Texas and can be transported out of state once an approved adopter is lined up! This girl has been through more than any dog ever should—and somehow came out the other side with nothing but love to give. Rescued from the streets along with her puppies, we believe Sophie was hit by or thrown from a moving car. She bravely underwent FHO surgery and completed heartworm treatment, and now she’s ready for the happy ending she’s waited so patiently for. Sophie is fully house-trained, crate-trained, walks beautifully on leash, and rides like a champ in the car. She’s a low-energy, easygoing girl who would much rather cuddle than cause chaos, and her sweet, silly personality shines once she feels safe. Sophie has done well with dogs her size or smaller. She is not a constant player and prefers low interaction, setting boundaries when needed. She may be nervous initially, so slow introductions are recommended. Sophie has been around older children and enjoys playing with them; a home with respectful kids ages 10+ would be ideal. Her behavior around cats is unknown. Sophie requires separate feeding from other animals due to mild food guarding, but she is gentle with people and enjoys affection, kisses, and attention. Sophie’s dream home is a loving place where she can finally relax, feel safe, and be someone’s whole world. She doesn’t need another dog—just a cozy couch, a kind human, and a steady supply of belly rubs. Sophie has survived the unimaginable and still chooses sweetness every single day. She’s ready to belong to a forever family who will love her as deeply as she loves them. If you are interested in adding Sophie into your family, please fill out the adoption application below! https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DDAR/Dog **Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Marshia is a spayed, 2 year old female German Shepherd Dog mix, weighing around 56lbs. She is in a foster home in Houston, TX, and can transport out of state once an approved adopter is found. Miss Marchy is very spirited, fun loving, ditzy gal! She LOVES to play & is besties with her foster’s 93lb brown lab & their parent’s 65lb golden retriever. She has only played with larger dogs, but did great meeting a neighbor’s shepherd puppy. She can play a little rough sometimes, loosing coordination when running and cannonballing into her playmates, so larger pups are ideal. Although she doesn't always do well following her playmate’s social cues, she will stop & come to you if you call for her. Marshia shares her toys well with her pals and does not get offended easily. She does take some time to warm up to new dog friends, so slow introductions/seperation are advised at first. It won’t be long before she considers them part of her circle, and will be snuggling up with them for slumber parties! She does not react to other dogs while on a leash or in public, heeling next to you while they pass. This sweetie hasn't lived with any children during her time as a foster, but has played well with the neighbor’s children ages 5-14. We would recommend children over 5 only because she may knock them down with her clumsy ways. Marshia has a high prey drive, so cats are a pass for her. Marshia is fully house broken & crate trained! She enjoys time in her crate, considering it her safe spot. She usually falls asleep by her foster’s bed before heading into her crate to snuggle with her beloved toys. She roams free when her people are home & they have only had 2 small instances of her chewing up some pinecones & a cardboard box. Out of caution, the dogs are always feed separately for safety, but Marchy has never shown any signs of food aggression or resource guarding. She takes treats very gently from your hand & loves to show you her shake or spin (dance) for a treat! Although she loves her food, she sits & waits for her "get it" command before eating her meals. She is extremely intelligent & will do amazing protecting your household while providing a loving & cuddly companion! She believes she is a lap dog and will just lean on your legs for pets all day if you let her. She will make sure you’re never lonely, following you around the house like a silent shadow. Marshia is always happy to meet new human friends, even at the vet! Marshia is a bit of an athlete and thinks swimming is the best! She would love to join you on all of your outdoor adventures, especially if there’s a lake. A back yard with a tall fence would be ideal as she can jump VERY high. She would enjoy another dog of her size or larger to play with, but would do great as an only child if her parent/parents are active & can give her lots of love & attention! This sweet girl is the total package and is ready to love you forever! ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. Story
This cutie is Rice Krispie Cereal. She is currently 4 months old. We think they may be a German Shepherd mix, but with rescue it’s a guess! What matters most is that they are adorable and are one the MOST desperate in the entire US based on statistics for where this puppy is from. Shelters in this area are having to euthanize puppies. So, this puppy needs you! If you choose a puppy from us, it saves their life as well as the life of another in its place. Watch Rice Krispie's playful personality here: https://youtu.be/WqW3Kxl6uvw?si=J27d65pd7hMvGmWO Rice Krispie is playful, sweet, curious, and cuddly. She loves to play with her siblings and take lots of naps. Eat, sleep, play, repeat- such is puppy life! We pride ourselves in being able to give you good personality and behavioral information to help ensure this baby is the right fit for you. You are also welcome to do a Facetime call to meet your new baby before signing paperwork! Rice Krispie is still very young and will need a family that can commit to training, socialization and all the dedication puppyhood requires. A puppy is discovering new things that shape their personalities with each passing day. Implementing routine, structure, setting boundaries, and proper socialization is key from the start. We require a commitment from adoptive families to crate train their new puppy starting immediately when arriving at their new home, which will help with potty training, energy management, and the overall development of a well-rounded adult dog. You will be guaranteed to get lots of kisses in return from your new best friend! Ready to welcome a new furry friend into your life? Story
If you like your dogs on the big side, with the potential for even bigger? Fluffy on the outside and soft-souled on the inside, River is here for you! River is the kind of dog who makes everyone stop in their tracks, not because he’s loud or chaotic, but because he’s eye-catching, handsome, and oh-so gentle and welcoming for his size. When he was brought to our main rescue office it was all oooohhhs and ahhhhhs, followed by, “Can we approach and touch?”. The team was so excited and proud to say, YES!! He is as loving, soft, and affectionate as he looks! Take a look at his mellowness in motion, then come back to read more: https://youtu.be/bBnetZgN-WE River is estimated to be about a year old, currently weighs 87 lbs, and may be a German Shepherd/Husky mix—maybe even some Anatolian sprinkled in. As with all rescues, age and breed are our best guesses. Sometimes that’s the best part about rescue, finding all the fun breeds your pup has! What we can guarantee is that he is a lot of loving fluff and incredibly affectionate, though never in a pushy way. He leans into you, rests that giant head near your lap, and soaks up love like a pro. You can even hold his paws and let him “dance” with you—standing up, he’ll likely be as tall as you. It’s like slow dancing with a gentle, oversized stuffed animal. Please don’t mistake “big” for “difficult.” River has that magical gentle-giant quality where the look is powerhouse and the personality is marshmallow. He walks well on leash and is very manageable for such a large dog. Being young, he’ll benefit from continued structure, but his calm, observant, unbothered nature makes him an absolute joy. He brings chill vibes all day. Truly the definition of big dog, easy spirit. River currently lives in a loving foster home with multiple dogs out in the country of Texas and does wonderfully! Even his foster says he’s just an easygoing boy—no trouble, no chaos, just peaceful dog energy. We are just now going to quote some of things his fosters have to say about him, they are seasoned fosters and know a great dog when they meet one. River takes treats sooo gently River snuggles on the couch with our big pack of misfit dogs! Great at sharing! River is completely house trained River is the perfect mix of mellow and playful. Except the playful is more prancing with dogs. On the rare occasion he wants to play with the dogs, he does a prancing “dance” to invite! Great car rider and fantastic on the leash Loves the rope toy and playing tug-o-war with other dogs and us. Goes after the ball! River is great around other dogs and he loves being a pack animal. He doesn’t need a home with other dogs but he clearly does well with them! Some of the different dog temperament and personalities of the dogs he is fostered with include the queen bee- senior pittie female- she has no reservations correcting dogs if they get too rowdy. River is such a sweet gentleman, he makes sure to not react or bother her. She loves River because he is very relaxed and finds his spot on the floor or on the couch. You will find the assertive male dog and boy does love River! River is mindful and respectful of him. River has also accepted corrections from him and too if ever warranted! There are some aloof females and males that he will play with. He gets bouts of the zoomies in the back yard and mostly romps around with the dogs. He likes to be that awkward 3rd, 4th, or even 5th wheel! If you watched his video, then you also saw how incredibly gentle and tolerant he is with his favorite buddy! A 7 month old foster puppy named. Lily. He clearly is so unbothered by her climbing all over him, sharing toys, kissing, nibbling, invading his space while he is trying to relax, messing with his tail, or any of the things puppies like to do.His foster mom says they are like two peas in a pod and that it is almost like he has taken it upon himself to assume the "big brother" or "fun uncle" role. Seeing how gentle he is, even with a puppy, is simply who is to his core. A gentle giant. With cats, he was politely aloof—“Huh. A cat. Okay.” He went on an overnight stay with a cat for further testing and did initially bark at the cat. Once the cat hissed at him, he did not mind her the rest of the time. One thing to note is that his cat is not a very active cat. She does not run or play around. Every cat has different personalities. Please inquire to get further cat testing. River’s long legs would like a nice long yard. He doesn’t need constant exercise or intense stimulation, just love, gentle structure, space to stretch out, and a comfy place to nap. He’s gorgeous, calm, sweet, and big—but somehow still tiptoes through life like he doesn’t want to bother anyone. If your heart is set on a truly huggable best friend who brings peace, steadiness, gentle companionship and who would love having a dog buddy at home; River is ready for the role.
