Story
BENNY: THE BRAD PITT OF THE SHELTER LOOKING FOR HIS HAPPY ENDING. We all think our own dogs are the most beautiful dogs in the world. But with Benny, even people who have never met him seem to agree. The other day, I was walking Benny in the park when a lady stopped us and said, "My goodness! That's a beautiful dog! He is a Hollywood dog!" And honestly? She wasn't wrong. Benny is the Brad Pitt of our shelter. That striking mix of Siberian Husky and what we believe may be German Shepherd gives him movie-star looks. He's the kind of dog people turn around to look at twice. But Benny is so much more than a handsome face. He has one of those personalities that just feels balanced. He's incredibly affectionate and loves giving kisses, leaning into belly rubs, and curling up close to his people. Yes, this 73-pound boy truly believes he is a lap dog. At the same time, Benny has an independent spirit. He loves exploring, rolling in the grass, carrying his toys around, and simply enjoying the world around him. I can easily picture him resting his head in your lap one moment and then happily napping at your feet the next. Benny loves toys and absolutely loves playing fetch. In fact, he's developed his own system: he likes to have two toys and will trade one for another. Otherwise, he'll happily keep his ball for himself. It's part of his charm. He's also a smart boy who already knows sit, down, and paw, walks nicely on leash, and is very treat motivated, which makes him a wonderful candidate for continued training. Like many Huskies, squirrels, cats, and crows are simply too tempting to ignore, so he'll need someone attentive on walks. Benny is best suited for an active home with a securely fenced yard where he can play, explore, and be his wonderful, goofy self. Because of his size and enthusiasm, we think he would do best with children ages 13 and older. Sometimes when he's feeling extra playful, he may get a little humpy, but a gentle "Nope" and he immediately redirects. He has not been formally tested with other dogs and would likely do best as the only dog in the home. He should not live with cats or small pets. What makes Benny's story especially difficult is this: He has been waiting in our municipal shelter for eleven months. Eleven months of watching people walk by. Eleven months of being everyone's favorite during meet-and-greets, only to hear the same thing at the end: "He's so big." And yes, Benny is a big dog. Big dogs come with big responsibilities. But they also come with big hearts, big loyalty, and big love. If you've been looking for a large, intelligent, affectionate working-breed dog who can be both your cuddle buddy and your adventure partner, Benny may be exactly who you've been waiting for. Municipal shelters become dangerously crowded during the summer months. More than anything, Benny needs a chance. An adopter would be wonderful. Even a foster family would be incredible: a place where this Hollywood handsome boy could finally stretch out on a couch, chase a ball, get his belly rubbed, and happily wait for his forever family. Benny has already mastered being a shelter favorite. Now he just needs the starring role in someone's life.

💙 LUCAS — THE HUSKY WHO’S BEEN WAITING FAR TOO LONG 💙 📍 Upland Animal Shelter — Upland, CA 🐾 Animal ID: IEPA-A-17389 🐕 Breed: Siberian Husky ♂️ Sex: Male 🎂 Age: 3 years, 2 months ⚖️ Weight: 49.5 lbs 📅 At the shelter since: June 3, 2025 🏠 Location: Upland Animal Shelter, Upland CA. 💙 MEET LUCAS Some dogs impress you with tricks. Some dogs impress you with energy. Lucas does something different. He looks at you. The very first thing that captured one volunteer’s heart wasn’t that Lucas is handsome — although he absolutely is. It was his eyes. Those incredible icy blue-white Husky eyes seem to look straight through you, as if they’re quietly reading every corner of your heart. And when you let yourself get lost in them, you discover something unexpected: an ocean of honesty, gentleness, and unconditional love… and a promise that if you choose him, he’ll be your friend for life. Lucas has become both a staff and volunteer favorite, and it’s easy to understand why. 🐾 He walks beautifully on leash. During park adventures on a long line, his Husky spirit comes alive. He happily scouts ahead, taking in the world and making sure every squirrel — and every dog or cat in the distance — knows he’s on the case. But once he’s back on the sidewalk with a shorter leash, Lucas settles beside his person and walks as though they’ve been best friends forever, simply enjoying each other’s company. ❤️ Lucas is affectionate in every sense of the word. He’ll happily climb into your lap if you let him, roll over for endless belly rubs, and melt for a tasty treat. He knows basic commands, including “Sit” and “Down,” loves playing fetch, enjoys water, and is smart, treat-motivated, and eager to learn. 🐕 Lucas is good with other dogs and would thrive with a playful canine companion. He does have food resource guarding toward other dogs — NOT toward people — so meals and high-value food items should be managed appropriately in a multi-dog home. 🐱 Lucas is not good with cats. 👧👦 He is good with kids, calm and loving around people, and despite being officially three years old, he still has that joyful, adolescent-like personality that reminds you that life is meant to be fun. Lucas could be a wonderful match for first-time dog owners, a single person searching for a loyal best friend, or a family looking for a dog who wants to be part of their adventures. 🐺 A HUSKY WASN’T MEANT FOR KENNEL WALLS Like every Siberian Husky, Lucas was made for freedom, adventure, companionship, and purpose. Huskies were bred to run, work, explore, and experience the world alongside their people. Yet Lucas has now spent more than a year in a municipal shelter. More than a year waking up in a kennel. Our staff keeps the kennels spotless. Volunteers spend time with him, walk him, play with him, and love him. Lucas is cared for deeply. But no matter how much we love him… it’s still a kennel. Lucas doesn’t need another person to stop at D30 and say: “What a beautiful dog.” He needs someone to stop and say: “Lucas, let’s go home.” 🏡💙 If you’ve been looking for a loyal adventure partner, a hiking buddy, a fetch champion, a water-loving companion, a couch buddy after a long day, and a friend who will love you with his whole heart… Lucas has been waiting for you. Please come meet him. He may just spend the rest of his life proving that the wait was worth it. 🐾 ✨ LUCAS AT A GLANCE 🐾 Walks beautifully on leash ❤️ Affectionate lap dog 🤗 Belly-rub enthusiast 🎾 Loves fetch and toys 💦 Water lover 🐕 Good with dogs 🐶 Would love a playful canine companion 👧👦 Good with kids 🧠 Smart and eager to learn 🎓 Knows basic commands, including Sit and Down 🦴 Treat motivated 🦋 Social butterfly 😌 Calm and loving with people 🎉 Playful, adolescent-like personality 🥾 Would thrive in an active home 🌟 Staff favorite 🌟 Volunteer favorite 🏡 Great for first-time dog owners 🐱 Not good with cats 🍽️ Food resource guarding toward dogs only — NOT people 🏡 ADOPT OR FOSTER LUCAS Lucas is available for adoption or foster at Upland Animal Shelter in Upland, California. Summer is one of the busiest times for municipal shelters, and opening your home — even temporarily through fostering — can give a wonderful dog like Lucas the chance he deserves while creating space for another dog in need. 🚐 Transportation is available for rescue organizations. More than a year is far too long. 💙 Come meet Lucas. Look into those extraordinary eyes. And maybe this time, when someone walks away from his kennel… Lucas will be walking beside them. 🐾🏡

🐾💙 OAKLEY — THE LIFE OF THE PARTY, AND EVERYONE’S BEST FRIEND! 💙🐾 📍 Upland Animal Shelter — Upland, CA 🏡 Currently in a Foster Home 🆔 Animal ID: IEPA-A-16610 🐕 Breed: Siberian Husky ♂️ Sex: Male 🎂 Age: 4 years, 7 months ⚖️ Weight: 55 lbs 📅 Intake Date: 12/22/2024 ✨ SOCIAL BUTTERFLY | PLAY GROUP ROCKSTAR | WATER LOVER | FAMILY FAVORITE ✨ Meet OAKLEY, a handsome, affectionate Husky with a heart as big as his smile — and a personality that seems to say, “Where are we going, and can all my friends come too?” 🥰🐾 Oakley has been waiting for his forever home since December 2024. But thanks to his foster family, we’ve had the chance to see exactly what kind of dog he can be outside the shelter environment. And what we’ve learned is pretty special. ❤️ 🎃 A HUSKY WHO CAN HANDLE A HALLOWEEN PARTY? YES, REALLY! Oakley’s foster family took him to a community Halloween event filled with children in costumes, other dogs, crowds, music, activity, and excitement. Oakley absolutely shined. 🌟 He calmly greeted small children in their costumes, happily wagged his tail around other dogs, and soaked up attention from everyone he met. Crowds? Fine. Music? Fine. Kids in strange costumes? Fine. Other dogs? Bring on the friends! 🐕🐕🐕 Oakley simply enjoyed being part of it all. That experience tells you something important about this boy: Oakley genuinely loves being included in life. 🐕 PLAY GROUP ROCKSTAR Oakley is good with dogs and has earned the wonderful title of Play Group Rockstar. ⭐ He enjoys canine company and knows how to have fun with his four-legged friends. If you’re looking for a dog who can enjoy playtime, outings, adventures, and an active social life, Oakley may be your guy. 💦 JUST ADD WATER! Oakley is also a certified water lover. 💦🐾 Whether it’s splashing, playing, or simply joining you for outdoor adventures, this boy is happiest when life is interesting and there’s something fun happening. 🏃‍♂️ LOOKING FOR AN ADVENTURE BUDDY? Oakley would do best in an active home where he can exercise, play, explore, and most importantly, be part of the family. At 55 lbs, he’s a great size for someone looking for an athletic companion without an enormous dog taking over the entire couch... Although Oakley may have opinions about how much of that couch technically belongs to him. 😉😂 🧠 SMART + TREATS = A GREAT COMBINATION Oakley already knows “sit” and is treat motivated, which gives his future family a wonderful foundation for continuing his training. A little patience, some tasty rewards, and plenty of positive reinforcement will go a long way with this clever boy. 🦴✨ ❤️ WHY WE LOVE OAKLEY 🐾 Affectionate 🐾 Good with dogs 🐾 Good with kids 🐾 Play Group Rockstar ⭐ 🐾 Social butterfly 🦋 🐾 Water lover 💦 🐾 Knows “sit” 🐾 Treat motivated 🦴 🐾 Great candidate for an active family 🐾 Confident at a busy community event 🐾 Loves attention and being included 🚫 Oakley is NOT good with cats, so his forever home should be feline-free. 🏡 OAKLEY HAS BEEN WAITING SINCE DECEMBER 2024 That’s a long time for a dog whose greatest joy seems to be simply being part of the fun and surrounded by friends. Oakley doesn’t need to become somebody’s “perfect dog.” He just needs somebody to finally look at this happy, affectionate, social boy and say: “Oakley, you’re coming home with us.” 💙🏡🐾 Could that be you? 📸🎥 MORE PHOTOS & VIDEOS OF OAKLEY: https://www.shelterluv.com/embed/animal/IEPA-A-16610 🚐 TRANSPORTATION IS AVAILABLE FOR RESCUE ORGANIZATIONS. 🐾 Meet Harry – Your Future Best Friend Is Waiting 🐾 Name: Harry Animal ID: IEPA-A-18274 Breed: Siberian Husky Sex: Neutered Male Age: 2 years, 7 months Weight: 76 lbs Location: Upland Animal Shelter, Upland, CA Intake Date: 11/14/2025 💙 Harry’s Story – A Heart Waiting to Heal Harry’s journey is a special one… and one filled with love, loss, and hope. He arrived at the shelter 8 months ago with his sister, Sally—his mirror in both looks and joyful spirit. They shared everything: a kennel, playtime, happy zoomies in the yard. They were inseparable. The dream was for them to go home together. But life had other plans. Sally found her forever home… and Harry stayed behind. He knows she’s gone. And now, after months in the shelter, you can see the sadness in his eyes when he’s alone in his kennel. But here’s the beautiful part… The moment Harry steps outside, he becomes himself again. Playful. Loving. Calm. Full of life. He hasn’t given up. He’s just waiting… for you. ✨ Harry’s Personality Harry is not your typical high-energy husky—he’s a gentle, soulful companion who thrives on connection. •💙 Affectionate and people-loving •🐾 A true social butterfly •🛋️ Thinks he’s a lap dog (and we agree!) •🌿 Loves rolling in fresh grass and relaxing in the shade •🐶 Calm, easygoing temperament •🧠 Smart and eager to learn •🦴 Knows “Sit” and walks well on leash •🐕 Treat-motivated (with a refined taste 😉) •🫶 Staff and volunteer FAVORITE Harry is the kind of dog who will happily lay by your side on the sofa… or roll over for belly rubs surrounded by love. 🏡 Ideal Home Harry will thrive in a home that gives him both activity and affection: •✔️ Active lifestyle •✔️ Breed experience preferred (Husky knowledge is a plus!) •✔️ Good with kids 13+ •✔️ Dog selective (proper introductions needed) •❌ Not good with cats He’s currently learning to fetch and has great potential—he’s ready to keep growing with you. 💛 Why Harry? Because he hasn’t had his real chance yet. Because he loved deeply once, and he’ll do it again. Because behind those beautiful husky eyes is a loyal, gentle soul who just wants to belong. And because the right home won’t just change Harry’s life… it will change yours too. 📍 Come Meet Harry Harry is waiting at: Upland Animal Shelter, Upland, CA 👉 More info & photos: https://www.shelterluv.com/embed/animal/IEPA-A-18274 Give Harry the happy ending he’s been waiting for. 🐾💙

HEART & GENTLEMANLY CHARM 💙🐾 📍 Upland Animal Shelter — Upland, CA 🆔 Animal ID: IEPA-A-19601 🐕 Breed: Husky Mix ♂️ Sex: Male 🎂 Age: 8 years (estimated) ⚖️ Weight: 83.6 lbs 📅 Intake Date: August 12, 2026 💙 MEET WILBUR At nearly 84 pounds, Wilbur is a big boy. But spend a little time with him, and what you notice isn't his size. It's how easy it is to enjoy his company. Wilbur is a handsome Husky mix with the heart and manners of a gentleman. He's estimated to be around 8 years old, although he may be a little younger, and he seems to have arrived at the shelter already knowing quite a bit about how to live alongside people. 🎓 A GENTLEMAN WITH MANNERS Wilbur knows basic commands, including "sit" and "down," and appears to have had some previous training. His behavior also suggests he may already be housetrained. And despite his impressive size, this big guy walks nicely on leash without much pulling. 🐕‍🦺 Once he's out of his kennel, Wilbur enjoys exploring, sniffing, and taking in everything around him. But he isn't too busy exploring to remember the person at the other end of the leash. ❤️ HE LOVES BEING WITH HIS PEOPLE Wilbur is friendly, social, and genuinely affectionate. Take him into the play yard and he'll happily investigate his surroundings before wandering back over for some love. And if you sit down on a bench? Don't be surprised if this 84-pound gentleman decides there's room beside you and hops up to join you for some extra attention. 🥰 Wilbur seems to understand something very important: Adventures are good. But being close to someone you love is even better. ❤️ 🐺 AND YES... HE HAS HUSKY OPINIONS! Like many Huskies, Wilbur can be wonderfully chatty and vocal. He isn't afraid to share his thoughts, so life with Wilbur may include the occasional Husky commentary on matters he considers particularly important. 😄 Wilbur can also be sensitive around his head and is still getting comfortable with having a leash placed over it. A patient, gentle approach works best while he learns that he's safe. 🐕 WHAT ABOUT OTHER ANIMALS? Wilbur has shown no reactivity toward dogs while passing their kennels. Formal dog testing is still pending, however, so an appropriate introduction would be needed before he goes home with a canine companion. 🐱 Cats and small animals are not a good match for Wilbur. He has a high prey drive and shows interest in chasing small animals, so he needs a cat-free home. 🏡 WHAT IS WILBUR LOOKING FOR? Something wonderfully simple: 🐾 Leisurely walks with someone he trusts 🛋️ A comfortable place to rest ❤️ Plenty of affection 🗣️ Someone who appreciates a little Husky conversation 👫 A person or family to call his own At 8 years old, Wilbur isn't looking for the beginning of his life. He's looking for the beginning of the part that matters most: ❤️ The part where he finally belongs. If you're looking for a big, affectionate, well-mannered companion with a gentle spirit and just enough Husky personality to keep life interesting, come meet Wilbur. He may be 84 pounds... 💙 But the biggest thing about him might just be his heart. 💙 🐾 WILBUR AT A GLANCE ❤️ Affectionate 🦋 Social Butterfly 🐕‍🦺 Walks Well on Leash 🎓 Knows Basic Commands 🌟 Great for First-Time Dog Owners 🗣️ Chatty/Vocal 🐕 Dog Testing Pending — No Reactivity Observed 🐿️ High Prey Drive 🚫🐱 Not Good with Cats 🤲 Sensitive Around His Head — Gentle Handling Recommended 🔎 Want to learn more about Wilbur? https://www.shelterluv.com/embed/animal/IEPA-A-19601

Playful. Loving.
