To learn more about Balto, please get in touch with dogs@lostdogrescue.org Balto will be attending one of our adoption events coming up this weekend! To learn more about our upcoming events and to see which event they will be attending, please visit our event page at https://www.lostdogrescue.org/events/ (*please note that the specific event pages are typically updated on Fridays with information on which dogs will be attending which events*) Meet Balto, Lost Dog's newest sled dog-in-training! Like the famous canine hero, this adorable pup has captured our hearts and is ready to lead the way into adventure. While he may not be delivering lifesaving serum to Alaska, Balto is still making a big impact at our shelter with his charming, energetic personality and playful spirit. This curious, independent, and all-around pup-tastic pooch loves exploring nature and meeting new creatures. Balto would do best in a home that can give him the attention and patience to help him be the best dog ever. Happily, he is a quick learner. Your efforts will be very rewarding-imagine a lifetime of cuddles, outdoor adventures, and time spent together! If you're looking for a loyal, affectionate new lifelong friend, Balto could be what you've been missing! Remember, "Balto" isn't just a name - it's a legacy of courage, determination, and love, a legacy that this pup would love to continue as part of your family.

Story
To learn more about Aspen, please email Jody.kulstad@lostdogrescue.org Why take a trip to Aspen when you can bring Aspen home with you? Beyond his incredible good looks and sharp blue eyes, Aspen is a bundle of energy. This distinguished gentleman is ready to play any chance he gets. As huskies do, he needs his exercise and is happy to help you exceed your step goal! Walk around the block? Sure! Even better, how about a 3-mile hike in the woods? 3 miles? Let's make it 5! And if a pup cup is at the end, all the better for this fluffy fellow. When he's not itching for a walk, he is calm and gentle with just a touch of sass balanced with good manners. He is a strong boy and will do best with a husky-familiar family that can provide him with mental and physical stimulation. He'd also do better in a home with older kids; he loves hanging with adults and other dogs. Aspen is a really good boy with lots of love to share. He is ready to join you on all your adventures!

Story
Freya This pretty lady is a sweet soul. She loves her people. She will definitely show you lots of love and attention. She loves kids and would make a great play partner. She is very dog and cat friendly. Although if your cat is runner or spooked easily, she will chase for a fun activity. Freya can jump high, so she requires a yard with a minimum of a 6 ft fence. She would do well with lots of room to roam and play. This chick is up for any adventure, as long as she gets to spend time with her people, her heart will be happy. She will be fully vetted, microchipped and is available to you via ground transport.

Please contact Kady Hammer (KadyH@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.Handsome boy needs his fur-ever family! SITKA NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:   Sitka       Best Guess for Breed:   Husky      Best Guess for Age:  2 years as of March 2024        SEX:    male   Approximate Weight:   56lbs   Gets Along With:   Other dogs! We have not seen Sitka with children but he can be tested. Sitka is not recommended for a home with cats due to his breed.   Currently Living at:   South Carolina shelter - Sitka needs a foster home to make his way to DC!   Special adoption considerations: Sitka is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky!  They are part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study will be placed at random, in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, this pup will be eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  Post treatment, we will work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test 6 months after treatment concludes, followed by a second test at 9 months.   Sitka is Looking For: The most important thing you need to know is that adopting Sitka for his looks alone is a bad idea. Huskies are smart and need plenty of mental and physical enrichment - they were bred for all-day activity! If you don't provide them with that enrichment, they WILL make their own in the home and you'll be doing repairs or replacing items. But if you get their needs and meet them, oh, they are just awesome, amazing dogs full of personality.    Sitka is gonna be such a fun companion. He's offering lots of laughs and opportunities for you to stay active in exchange for a home with central air conditioning and humans who appreciate his smarts and keep him challenged. What do you say? Is he the boy you want by your side for all those miles you have to cover before you sleep?     What My Foster Says About Me:   Coming soon!   Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:    The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. Name:  Lotus         Best Guess for Breed:  Husky/Sheltie mix Best Guess for Age: 2 years old as of Match 2024       SEX:   female   Approximate Weight:  34lbs   Gets Along With:   Other dogs! We have not seen Paris with cats but she can be tested. Because Lotus is shy, she needs to go to a home with a confident, welcoming resident dog. Due to her shy personality, we do not recommend her for a home with children under the age of 12.   Currently Living at:   South Carolina shelter - needs a foster!   Special adoption considerations: Lotus is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This young girl is eagerly looking forward to her new one. The one where she gets her own humans for long sniffy walks, romps in parks, and all the adventures her family can dream up. She hasn't seen nearly enough of the world yet and is looking forward to making new pup and people pals along the way. Exploring all the toys to see what she likes best, quality kibble, and a cushy dog bed are on her wish list as well. Lotus has been shy since arriving to the shelter and because of this, she is looking for a home with another dog to show her the ropes.   She's up for snuggling too - and promises lots of adoring gazes and love and loyalty for all her days. What do you say? Is this sweetie the one you can see by your side? What My Foster Says About Me:   Coming soon! Learn more, see our list of dogs needing foster, and apply, https://www.citydogsrescuedc.org/foster-a-city-dog.html City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue is a foster-based rescue in Washington, DC. We do not have a shelter. CDCK has a thorough adoption process to find the best possible fit for each of our dogs and cats (we do not operate under a first-come, first-served model). Upon accepting a new cat or dog into the organization, we provide a basic vet visit that includes necessary vaccinations, disease screenings, deworming, microchips, and spay/neuter for dogs six months and older. We do not provide a comprehensive medical exam before adoption. As a result, sickness, injury, and disability may exist unbeknownst to CDCK. City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue is not responsible for payment of any vet care, including known and unknown medical conditions once a cat or dog is adopted from us. Dog specific: Rabies, DHPP, Lepto and Bordetella vaccines. They are tested for HW, Lyme, Ehrlichia, Anaplasmosis. Most cats and dogs will have a house-training accident in the initial days in their new home and we cannot guarantee any pet is housebroken or crate trained.
