Story
We adopted Winston from the pound and knew little about his history. We believe he was kept outside as he had no potty training at all. He is a gentle soul but has begun to resource guard me and it is bringing tension to our family. He’s up to date on shots, he’s potty trained, excellent in crate, a work in progress with leash. He will need a family with older children and one that will take the time to gain his trust. Once you do, he is loyal to the end. He is that dog that knows when you are upset he’s going to be there by your side. We definitely want a good home for him. He’s an amazing dog, just not the right fit for our family .

Story
My name is Charlie... My life began at Randolph county animal shelter. You see Tails of the Unwanted pulled me after being dumped there by my previous owner. I was scared of all things especially the human touch. My foster mom says I've come a long long way in a year. I'll need to have someone that's patient with me and will give me room. You must have another dog... I love them so much and I get confidence and comfort from them. I'm neutered and microchipped. I have all vaccines including my rabies vaccine. I have been heartworm tested and tested negative. I must have a fenced in yard. No electronic fence. I walk great on the leash. If you think I could be the one for you or if you're up for a challenge please apply at www.tailsoftheunwanted.org Love Charlie&#226&#157&#164&#239&#184&#143April 22, 2024, 4:55 pm

Story
Meet Deacon, he is a lab mix with a great personality… uh, dog-anality.  He is house trained, crate trained and leash trained.  Deacon can be a jumper and loves to run in his yard, so a 5 ft fenced in yard is a must for this boy.  If you want to see pure joy, watch him when he is playing with toys or gets the zoomies. It goes to a whole new level if the toy has a squeaker, those are his absolute favorite.  He does not like taking a bath, having someone hold his feet, or getting his nails cut.  He's your typical guys guy - not metrosexual at all.  Who needs all that floofy stuff anyway? Deacon is going to do best if he is the only animal or in a home with a non bossy or non grouchy female dog that is spayed.   He is not a fan of all small dogs that are bossy, he likes female non bossy small dogs and some kids, he may chase cats, but he likes them and just wants to play. Deacon may be too high energy for larger dogs.  Deacon was bounced around a bit before he went to his foster home, due to that he can be slow to warm up, but once you are his person - he desires nothing more than to be by your side… and have squeaky toys.  Did I mention he loves squeaky toys? Deacon is still figuring out the world and will need someone who will be patient with him… he can't just be thrown into new situations and expect to thrive.  A good example, is those spooky moving doors at PetSmart.  He doesn't understand them and we'll be honest, they freak him out a little, he is getting better- but he's learning.  Deacon has recently completed 2 weeks of board and train.  Note: The training he received comes with lifetime training touch ups. Once he has settled in, the trainer will provide you with training sessions to help acclimate him to his new home , they also provide group training sessions most Saturdays at local parks.  Deacon weighs approximately 45 lbs and has been neutered and microchiped.  If you think Deacon would make a good addition to your family, fill out an application at lastdaydogs.comApril 22, 2024, 4:55 pm

Story
Hi everyone! My name is Alex. Some of you may know me as ' Alex The Great' of Greensboro. Being the loal celebrity that I am, you can view my FOX 8 interviews on the Tails of the Unwanted FB page! Well, that was my former life. Let me give you a bit of my history. Just a few, short months ago, I was living on the streets of Greensboro with my former owner. We were homeless. Needless to say, food was scarce, and I became very thin. Some concerned citizens contacted Animal Services about my plight. After some time, my owner surrendered me so that I could get the nutrition and care that I so badly needed. After a month in Guilford County Animal Services, I was nursed back to a healthy weight. They then transferred me into foster care where, over the past 6 months, I have been working on my inside manners, polite behavior, leash walking, and commands. This is what my foster parents have to say!!!! Alex is a very good boy! He is super sweet, not to mention handsome, and loves to get belly rubs and give kisses! He is a great swimmer and would love his new parents to take him to the lake or pool for a dip! He enjoys a nice, long walk and is good on a leash. If he catches a scent, he's on it, but it is corrected very easily. Although he is still learning his inside manners, he would love to cuddle on the couch with you, but he does great just chillin in his crate as well. (He has actually made his crate his safe place). We have found it difficult to get him out at times because Alex loves to play hard, and when his day is done, he's DONE! He is a 6-year-old healthy boy weighing approximately 50 lb. He is heartworm negative and up-to-date on all of his vaccinations. Alex would do best in a home where he has a lot of human contact and love. He can be anxious when separated from his people, which is not surprising due to him being with his past owner 24/7. He is currently on a low dose of anxiety medication, which is a far cry from where he was 6 months ago. He has settled in and has relaxed tremendously. He will need his humans to have patience for a while as he adjusts to his new surroundings. We believe that his new family will find that once Alex knows he's in a safe, loving place, he will relax and be the BESTEST boy for you! Alex would do best with older children as he is still very eager at meal time and treat time and is still learning his socialization skills but is good with other dogs in low-key settings. We are unsure about cats. Overall, Alex is a sweet, loving, affectionate boy who is eagerly waiting to meet his forever family! If you want to be a part of Alex's story and provide him his forever home, please complete an adoption application at lastdaydogs.comApril 22, 2024, 4:55 pm

Story
Meet Duke (formerly Cooper), a very good three-year-old boy with the sweetest smile looking for a special forever home. This charming chocolate lab mix comes to us from an unfortunate background of neglect, so he can be shy at first. But he warms up quickly with gentle affection and lots of patience. Because of past abuse, sweet Duke does suffer from separation anxiety. His new family should understand that he may need medication for a while to manage his anxiety as he transitions to his new home. Providing steady companionship and reassurance will help Duke feel secure. He promises to return the love a hundredfold once he settles in! Duke hates being crated, so a secured high-quality crate is a must for when his new owners need to step away. He is also a flight risk and has escaped before, so keeping doors and gates double-locked is essential. This snuggly fella enjoys cozying up on his foster mom's favorite chair for naps. Duke gets along well with other dogs, but does best as the only pet so he can receive plenty of attention. Playing with his favorite sticks makes this sweet pup grin from floppy ear to floppy ear. His perfect match will be an experienced female adopter fully prepared and committed to helping this good boy continue building trust and confidence with ample love, training and security measures. Won't you open your home and heart to this deserving boy? With the right person by his side, Duke will blossom into the most loyal companion for life. Story
Bailey is a sweet girl who came into rescue with her mom, Goldie (golden retriever). She’s 10 months old and had been with her mom her entire life. We felt it was very important to separate Bailey from mom as all her self confidence seemed to come from mom. Bailey was a bit shut down and we were thankful able to get her into a foster home! There is another dog in her foster home and that has helped Bailey tremendously! She loves to play with her foster sister and is learning lots from her. We do feel that it would be best for Bailey to be in a home with at least one other dog. She is opening up more and more to her foster parents and learning to trust more! Bailey will need a family that is willing to be patient with her! If you would like to meet Bailey please fill out an application on our website griffink-9rescue.org!
