Story
Meet Rango! Rango is a sweet boy full of love and loyalty. He is a great puppy who has been soaking up his training! He is potty trained and is learning his manners too. He is fostering with a dog trainer (win-win!) in Salem, Oregon. He is doing so well, taking it all in, and he would make a great sidekick for someone looking for a smart dog with a positive and pleasant attitude. He is incredibly shiny, soft, and has a big heart and a wonderful endearing attitude. Rango likes other dogs, might not be great with cats or teeny tiny dogs (they are a little too exciting for him), and he loves people too. RANGO is around 7 months old, 28 lbs, neutered, and vaccinated. We are thinking he may grow to be about 45 lbs. If you are interested in this great little dude, reach out to colleen@startrescue.org or 804-651-6442 (cell).

Story
4year old lab/pit male dog. We rescued him when he was 16 weeks old from a foster home. He has been with our family a few years. He is house trained and very smart. We have 2 grand babies and a 3rd on the way. We have them at our home 6 days a week and can’t give our dog the attention he deserves. We are looking for a loving home where he will get the attention and walks he needs. He is not neutered and we haven’t taken him to get updated shots yet. He loves to play in water. Loves the river and beach. He eats veggies and fruit as well as his dog food. He’s a foodie. He is kennel trained as well.

Meet Henry ******Please note, once completing the initial screen you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************ We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you area not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Henry is a neutered, 6 year old male Catahoula mix, weighing around 38lbs. He is in a foster home in Houston, TX, and can transport out of state once an approved adopter is found. This sweet gentleman of a pup is ready for forever! If you’re looking for a well behaved, lovable family member, Henry is the one for you. He’s past the crazy puppy stage and just needs a comfy bed, stuffies to destroy and lots of cuddles to be content. Henry really enjoys the company of other dogs and would love a canine sibling in the home. He is on the submissive side and has done well with dogs of all sizes, greeting them with a smile and a wagging tail! We do not have any information about cats at this time. Henry met a 9 year old human and did great! Because of his gentle nature, he’d probably do well with older kiddos in the home. This good natured fellow is crate and potty trained and walks well on a leash. He’s a bit bow legged, but that just adds to his charm! Henry needs a lot of love and a safe space during thunderstorms, but who can blame him? Loud noises can be scary! Other than his beloved toys, he has not destroyed anything in his foster home. He really is practically perfect! With his adorable smile and puppy dog eyes, you just can’t help fall in love with Henry! ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. *** Interested in applying to adopt him? If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Meet Poppy! Poppy is a five year old black and white Lab mix with the sweetest soul and a heart of gold. Weighing about 65 pounds, she’s the perfect cuddle companion, complete with a snowy white chest, matching paws, and the most adorable perky black ears. She truly loves everyone she meets and happily leans in for affection especially tummy rubs and chin scratches. She’s a social butterfly with other dogs and has played beautifully with pups of all sizes. For some reason, little dogs are her absolute favorite! On neighborhood walks, she may let out an excited whine when she spots a potential new friend. Squirrels and kitties are fascinating too, so she can pull a bit on leash when they are nearby. We’re unsure how she’d do living with a cat, but her interest seems playful and curious. Poppy already knows how to sit and give a paw, and she does well in a crate. She’s very food-motivated, which makes learning new skills extra fun and proof that even a middle aged dog can master new tricks! With a little continued guidance and some yummy motivators, she’s so eager to please and learn. When it’s playtime, Poppy lights up for a fresh tennis ball. She’ll happily play fetch until she’s ready to flop down and chew her prize. She adores squeaky toys and has the funniest habit of collecting shoes and gently carrying them to her bed (don’t worry—she never chews them!). Every now and then, she’ll surprise you with joyful zoomies that are guaranteed to make you smile. At home, Poppy is mellow, patient, and wonderfully gentle even with a baby. She’s content to snooze, window-watch, and wait politely for the next potty or play break. Because she needs regular potty trips, she’d do best with a doggy door or humans who are home most of the day. She’s happy to cuddle up in bed at night or sleep in her own cozy spot. Poppy is currently in a foster home in Houston, TX and can travel to an approved adopter. All she needs is a loving family, a few treats, and a soft place to land and she’ll fill her forever home with warmth, loyalty, and endless tail wags. ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. ___ Meet Lilly — Your Adventure Buddy, Couch Companion, and Loyal Shadow All in One Lilly is a 7-year-old spayed female Labrador Retriever mix, weighing in at a perfect 45 lbs. She’s currently being fostered in Houston, TEXAS, and can transport out of state once matched with an approved adopter! Lilly’s story nearly ended too soon — she was on the euthanasia list at a crowded Houston shelter simply due to lack of space. Thankfully, her amazing foster mom stepped up just in time, and Lilly has been showing her gratitude with tail wags, kisses, and love ever since. Don’t let her age fool you — Lilly still has plenty of pep in her step and absolutely lives for playtime! She’s a big fan of tug-of-war with rope toys, chasing balls in the yard, and going on long, sniff-filled walks. If you're looking for a dog to join you on outdoor adventures and then snuggle up for a cozy movie night, Lilly is your girl. She’s a beautiful mix of independent and affectionate—happy to explore and follow her nose, but always eager to be near her people. Her foster family describes her as curious, loyal, sweet, and a certified cuddle bug. She's been lovingly nicknamed a "velcro dog" thanks to how closely she likes to stick by her humans. Lilly lives with another dog in her foster home and does well with canine companions, though her true joy comes from human interaction. She’ll happily greet you with kisses and tail wags—and she even offers those kisses to other dogs she meets on walks. (Though between us, her real focus is usually on squirrel-spotting!) She’s also cat-experienced and has shown she can be redirected when her interest in the resident feline gets a little too intense. While she hasn’t been tested with children, her loving nature and gentle demeanor suggest she’d likely do well with respectful older kids. Lilly is both crate-trained and potty-trained, and she’s incredibly polite in the home—she’ll even tap the door to let you know when she needs to go out. She does best when fed separately from other dogs, as she prefers to keep her meals to herself, but has no issues with people near her food. Her ideal home? One that’s moderately active, with access to the outdoors and humans who are around often—because nothing makes Lilly happier than being your loyal shadow. Whether you have another pup or she’s your one-and-only, she’ll thrive in a home where she’s included in your daily rhythm and given plenty of time to play, explore, and snuggle. With all the perks of a mature dog (hello, house-trained!) and the heart of a playful pup, Lilly truly offers the best of both worlds. Ready to meet your new best friend? Apply to adopt Lilly today and let her joyful spirit brighten your life. ___ ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown.
