Story
Meet Yumi, a 3-year-old Bulldog mix with a big personality and an even bigger heart! Weighing about 50 pounds, Yumi is sweet, energetic, and happiest when she's close to her favorite people. Whether she's snuggling on the couch, soaking up belly rubs, or making the cutest noises while she sleeps or sniffs her way through a neighborhood walk, Yumi is sure to make you smile.Yumi is house-trained, crate-trained, and makes an excellent roommate. She enjoys relaxing around the house, settles well when left alone, and loves spending quality time with her humans. She thrives when she feels connected to her person and is looking for someone who will enjoy building a strong bond with her.Yumi is currently working with a professional trainer and making great progress on calmness, self-control, leash walking, and polite household manners. She is very food motivated, loves to learn, and responds wonderfully to positive reinforcement. Her trainers at the board and train facility are committed to setting her up for success and are happy to provide continued support to help her future adopter as she transitions into her new home and continues building these skills.Yumi has a playful, goofy side and loves games and training with her people, but she's also learning that relaxing is just as rewarding as playtime. Because of her hind leg complications, high impact activities like jumping, rough play, or repeated ball chasing should be limited. She does best with sniff-heavy walks, leisurely strolls, food puzzles, enrichment toys, and training games that keep both her mind and body active. She has also adjusted well to walking with a Gentle Leader.Yumi was friendly with other dogs earlier in her life but recently had some challenges with dogs in a previous foster home, possibly related to discomfort from her hind leg pain. She will do best with slow, thoughtful introductions to other dogs and a calm, structured environment. She cannot live in a home with cats.Yumi is looking for a patient family committed to continuing her positive reinforcement training while providing consistency, daily enrichment, and lots of love. She has so much affection to give and is working hard to become the very best version of herself. With the right guidance, Yumi will be an incredibly loyal, loving, and rewarding companion. If you are interested in Yumi, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $250. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional's recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal's history is often unknown. Due to post-adoption services provided, we prefer to adopt within a 150-mile radius of the Twin Cities. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.

Story
Looking for a loyal sidekick with a giant personality packed into a perfectly sized mix? Meet Rupert! This handsome bully mix is around 3 years old, weighs 65 pounds, and has mastered the art of being both a goofy best friend and a devoted companion.Rupert is completely house-trained, crate-trained, and an all-around gentleman in the home. He happily trots into his crate for a treat, settles quietly, and has never had an accident in his foster home. He knows several commands, including sit, shake, down, and wait, and walks very well on a leash. He loves to train, especially if there is cheese involved. While Rupert can be a little cautious when meeting new people, he doesn't take long to warm up. Offer him a hot dog or toss a ball his way, and you'll likely have a friend for life. Once you've earned his trust, Rupert's affectionate, loyal nature shines through. He loves being close to his people and would make an incredible companion for someone who appreciates the devoted personality that guardian dogs are known for.Speaking of balls, BALL. IS. LIFE. Rupert's favorite hobby, favorite toy, and favorite pastime all involve a ball. Whether he's playing fetch, showing off his catching skills, or simply lounging in the yard chewing on his latest prized possession, Rupert is at his happiest when a ball is nearby. Future adopters should be prepared to maintain a healthy "ball budget" for this enthusiastic collector! Rupert also enjoys squeaking soft toys with his nose and carrying them around the house like they're his babies.Rupert has a medium energy level and is easy to satisfy with a daily walk, some fetch, and mental enrichment. After that, he's perfectly content relaxing beside his humans. He isn't vocal, doesn't struggle with separation anxiety, and has been wonderfully patient as he continues settling into foster care.Rupert's ideal home will likely be adults only and with someone who understands the unique qualities of guardian breeds. He would thrive with a single person or a couple who appreciates his loyal nature and is committed to providing the structure, boundaries, and consistency that help him feel confident and successful. Rupert is a smart, obedient dog who does best when he has clear expectations and a trusted person to guide him. When he is with the right human, he is one of the easiest dogs! He doesn't need a full social calendar, he just needs some quality play and relax time with his trusted people. Rupert would do best as an only pet or with a compatible canine companion after a proper introduction. He coexisted and played beautifully with a 5 month old foster puppy in his foster home and has made a few other canine friends.Rupert's foster family describes him as sweet, loyal, and an absolute ham. He loves rolling in the grass, dramatically flopping onto his back for belly rubs. He also will rarely turn down a hug invitation! If you're a confident adopter who appreciates a dog with a thoughtful heart, a playful spirit, and enough loyalty to last a lifetime, Rupert may be the perfect match for you.If you are interested in Rupert, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $450. Story
The 90lb Gentle Giant of a Lap Dog: Meet Uggie Uggie is a 90lb powerhouse with the soul of a teddy bear. A classic American Bully with a "daunting" look, he’s actually the world’s worst watchdog—he’d sooner show a burglar the treat jar than bark. He truly believes he’s a lap dog and craves constant physical contact. If he isn’t leaning against you, he’s snoring so loud you’d think a lawnmower was starting up. Personality & Skills: Gentle Giant: Bell-trained, knows "sit," and very quiet. The Surgeon: Can extract a toy squeaker in under 10 minutes. Eager Learner: Highly treat-motivated and thrives on a schedule. The Ideal Match: Uggie is strong and powerful, requiring an adopter experienced with big breeds. This is a heartbreaking choice driven by health and financial changes; he deserves a home that can provide the care he needs. We love him deeply and need someone who will cherish his big heart and "Bully snores" just as much. Is your lap (and heart) ready for Uggie?

Story
Hello, my name is Frodo or Fitzgerald! I’m a 2.5 year old happy energetic pup that’s listed as a Great Dane Mix. I’m overall pretty friendly with all. I am kennel trained and a great eater, which means I’m also fun to teach new tricks to! I would be best suited to go to a new home that has a schedule and lifestyle that I can be a huge part of. Since I’m young and full of energy I would do best in a fenced in yard or have the ability to have new activities I can be a part of like hiking or day trips to explore new places. I need solid leadership as sometimes I need to be a little recentered or refocused when I get over stimulated. Because of this, I would be best in a place without young children as I’m still a little uncoordinated from time to time and little kid energy is a bit confusing for me. Kids who are a little older and are interested in helping train me are definitely an exception. Basically from the get go I’m going to just need consistency throughout everyone in the household to help me learn the rules so I can settle in successfully. My current foster mom does in-home boarding at our house so I spend my days meeting new dogs and some new people, so I am pretty well socialized and very much thrive with all the constant stimulation. I do best meeting others outside my kennel in an open space, I tend to be submissive and take appropriate correction from dogs older than me, very well as I’m constantly learning ways to play with all different sizes and breeds. I can't wait to find my forever family!  Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $525.00 Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.October 17, 2026, 3:37 pm

Story
Looking for a professional couch potato AND zoomie enthusiast? Well, look no further! Bella is a great mixture of both. She gets zoomies 2-3 times a day and then loves to snuggle up and snooze the rest of the time. (She has learned that she loves anything soft and comfy). She is constantly rolling over for belly rubs and loves to be the center of attention. In her foster home she has 2 doggy foster siblings and she LOVES them both! At first Bella is submissive and sweet but she becomes more playful the more comfortable she gets. Bella is a little bit mouthy but she's working on it with her foster mom. When she gets REALLY excited, she feels like she needs to show you by putting her mouth on you (but she doesn't actually bite). She's learning that excitement can be expressed in other ways and she's also working on basic commands/leash manners but she's a quick learner and very food motivated! Because of her mouthiness she would do best in a home with older children (8+), and it is unknown how she would do in a home with cats. She is also potty-trained! If you're looking for a sweet, affectionate, snuggle-bug, couch potato, and all-around good girl, Bella might just be the perfect fit for you! Bella is estimated to be 4 years old and 44 lbs. Since we don’t know the dog’s actual genetics, this is just a guess on breed and size when grown. All dogs have had a vet examination, are up to date on all vaccinations, and have been given dewormer and heartworm prevention. Dogs over 7 months have been heartworm tested. If you are interested in meeting this dog please complete the adoption application on our website at https://safehandsrescue.org/adoption-process/ and then we can contact you about setting up a meeting. We are also holding the following upcoming adoption events! Please note: All dogs/puppies will not be at every event, and some may find their home prior to the event. If you are interested in a specific animal, please check our Facebook page for confirmed attendance the morning of the event: https://www.facebook.com/safehandsrescue/ You do not need to have a Facebook account to check the Safe Hands Facebook page for attendance. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Meet Walter! ❤️ Hi, my name is Walter, and I’m a big sweetheart who is learning that the world can be a pretty wonderful place when you have people you can trust. I’ve been slowly coming out of my shell in my foster home, and while I can be cautious and shy at first, I’m making progress every day. I may need a little time to feel comfortable in a new environment, but once I know I’m safe, my loving and affectionate personality really starts to shine. One of my favorite things in the whole world is getting attention from my people. I absolutely LOVE being pet, and belly scratches are pretty much the way to my heart! I also have a funny habit of making myself into a lap dog. I may be a big guy, but that certainly doesn’t stop me from wanting to climb up next to you and cuddle. If you’re looking for a companion who will happily snuggle up with you and soak up all the love you’re willing to give, I might just be your guy. I also really enjoy having canine friends. I love other dogs and can be playful with them. I currently live with two small dogs in my foster home, and I’ve been very respectful of their size and space. Having another confident, friendly dog around may even help me continue to build my confidence. I’m also okay with cats, although I sometimes forget that they aren’t supposed to be a fun game of chase! Because of that, any cats in my future home would need proper supervision and introductions. I’m becoming more interested in toys, too! I’m still discovering what toys are all about, but large plush toys have definitely caught my attention. I’m sure with time, patience, and encouragement, I’ll continue to discover more things that I enjoy. I’m also starting to enjoy going on walks. There is still some work to do in the leash-training department, though! I’m an extremely strong boy, and when I see another dog, I can get VERY excited and want to pull toward them. My foster family is helping me work on my leash manners, and I’ll need someone who is patient, consistent, and willing to continue that training with me. I already know some basic commands, including sit, go potty, outside, and kennel, so I’m definitely capable of learning and continuing to improve. One thing that is especially important for me is having access to a secure, fenced yard every day. I absolutely love the freedom of being able to safely explore and enjoy a fenced-in space, and it’s something I would really benefit from having in my forever home. A fenced yard will also give me a great opportunity to get exercise, sniff around, play, and simply enjoy being a dog without the pressure of a leash. I can be sensitive to overwhelming commotion, and busy or chaotic environments can be scary for me. I would do best with a family who understands that I may need some time to adjust and decompress when I first arrive. A calm, patient home where I can settle in at my own pace would help me feel secure and allow my true personality to come out. I don’t need someone to rush me—I just need someone willing to give me the time and reassurance I deserve. I’m still healing physically, too. I’m currently finishing antibiotics after having an abscess that has cleared up. I have some scars around my neck, as well as a few scabs that are continuing to heal. My elbows also have some rough spots and scabs that should continue to improve with time and proper care.  Despite everything I’ve been through, I’m an incredibly loving boy. I’m learning to trust, learning to play, learning to enjoy walks, and learning that I can relax and be loved. I have so much potential, and I’m already showing what a wonderful companion I can be. I’m looking for a forever family who will be patient with me, give me time to adjust, continue helping me with my leash skills, and appreciate all the love and cuddles I have to offer. In return, I’ll give you a whole lot of affection, companionship, and probably more than a few attempts to convince you that I absolutely belong in your lap! If you’re looking for a big-hearted sweetheart who may need a little patience at first but has so much love to give ❤️ Walter may need a little time to show you everything he has to offer, but underneath that cautious exterior is a loving, affectionate boy who just wants to feel safe, loved, and included. Give him the chance to come out of his shell, and you may discover your new best friend. ❤️ Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.    ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there***Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/   Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.  All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
