Meatloaf... its whats for DINNER!!! I will take a side of mashed taters and some GRAVY too :) I am actually the puppy, formerly known as HAMBURGER, but mixed with some love, spice and a little ketchup and turned into THIS BIG HUNKA LOVE!! (with a side of cute and silly too) I have a big heart and a big personality too. I want to be someone's really really good friend, and guess what?? I am even BETTER on the second day! Put a slice of Meatloaf between two slices of bread with more ketchup and you are feasting again for lunch! Anyway, enuff about food.. I am seriously getting hungry! The kind of hunger that can only be satisfied with a REAL FAMILY like yours! I am sweet and happy, I am goofy and happy and I am squishy and happy too! So if you have not figured it out yet... I AM HAPPY!!! I am pretty good with other dogs, I can share... if I have to!! I am kind of a couch potato, if you are into napping I am down with that. I can hike and do active stuff too, if you are into that. But just like after eating a big meatloaf sandwich, the best thing to do is to take a nap :) So look me up, here are my stats- I am lovely, and a solid 72#. I was treated for heartworms and am one big hunk-o-love ready for you :):) Be the bread to my Meatloaf!! Bravo is my name, now that indicates two things- either, BRAVO!!! Great dog!! OR, Bravo that comes after Alpha and before Charlie. Phonetically speaking- it could be EITHER! I hail from the great city of Laredo, via the high kill pound they have. I did arrive at the rescue with my buddies Alpha and Charlie. Those two are LONG ago adopted, and I am STILL waiting! You know, it is ok because I need a very very special family and will wait for that family to come along... I am a nervous boy at first so will need a family who will give me time to get comfortable and play, I need a buddy to play with, a happy and outgoing, confident pup or dog. I have all kinds of fun to live, I have come SO far, now just need the right home to be my goofy and silly self. I will entertain you and give butterfly kisses to the best family EVER!! So hurry up and adopt me, I don't want to wait a SECOND LONGER!!! Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $400 (includes transport to your area)

Meet Gayle, a 2-year-old female American Bulldog mix with a stunning apricot and white bicolor coat. Gayle is a high-energy pup who loves spending time with people. She's incredibly friendly and cuddly, always eager to share affection. While Gayle enjoys the company of people, she can be selective with other dogs and might need a patient and experienced owner who can help her navigate her interactions. She's a bit anxious and defensive around other dogs, but with slow exposure and gentle guidance, she has the potential to adjust and become more comfortable over time. We suggest a single dog home for Gayle. If you're an experienced dog owner looking for a loving and energetic companion, Gayle could be the perfect addition to your family. With a little time and patience, she's sure to become a loyal and devoted friend. Come meet Gayle and see if you can be the one to provide her with a forever home filled with love and understanding. Meet Ford, a remarkable Bulldog whose presence is as powerful and steadfast as a mighty river. Just like the characteristics of his breed, Ford embodies kindness and courage, showcasing a unique blend of friendliness and dignity. Now you may not see it by looking into his gorgeous brown eyes, but Ford has suffered in his short life.... he came to the rescue from the streets with a HORRIFIC hernia on his back end, near his rectum. He required two surgeries to correct the hernia and allow him to have a normal life again. He came through with SHINING colors ;) With his well-muscled frame and low-slung stature, Ford is the epitome of a true bruiser, but it's his iconic "sourmug" face that represents his unwavering courage and tenacity. Despite his robust appearance, Ford is a docile and loyal companion, adapting seamlessly to any environment, be it the bustling city or the serene countryside. With Ford by your side, you'll experience the unwavering devotion and unmistakable presence of a Bulldog, a breed that leaves an indelible mark on your heart. Don't miss the opportunity to welcome this incredible Bulldog into your life, as Ford's unique spirit will bring joy, love, and an unmistakable charm that only he can deliver. Some basic information about Ford; he is male, a Bulldog mix, and is medium-sized (20-59lbs). Ford is not great with other dogs (or cats or other critters) and would be best in a home with either only adults or older children and as a single dog. But his heart will fill your home with all the love you need!!! Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $400 (includes transport to your area - $50 Temporary Fuel Charge will be added)

Adoption Fee: $650, plus taxes Location: Foster Home 4 month old Primrose is a small dog with a big personality. She loves to play with the much larger resident dogs, and is not afraid to stand up for herself. Primrose does not shy away from playing tug of war with the big dogs, and does not give up easily. She enjoys running around with her much bigger playmates. Primrose loves to play with her puppy toys and does not mind larger dog toys. It is fun to watch her drag the large toys around. After playing, Primrose likes to curl up and snuggle with her humans, she may try and steal your socks. Your lap is her favorite place to snuggle and sleep. She loves to be picked up and makes the funniest noises. She likes to sleep in bed with her humans, but does not resist going into the kennel at night and is very calm. She is potty training and understands "outside" and will go potty outside. She has had accidents in the house, but she is making progress like any puppy would be. Primrose is working on leash training and is getting better at it. Primrose has been spayed, microchipped, and has been brought up to date on her puppy vaccinations based on her age. Story
Surly is a beautiful puppy, she'll be two on April 29th. She's been a great dog and loves laying around cuddling with her younger brother Finnegan (also available). We rescued Surly from Save-a-Bull as a young puppy. She's always been a loving and affectionate dog who loves our young kids. Surly loves the Snow and doesn't mind going on walks even when it's cold! She is very smart and knows commands like sit, shake a paw, lay-down up, come, stay, etc. She is still young though and will need additional training. We are looking for someone who loves big dogs and knows how to care for them properly. Surly is strong puppy! You need to be in pretty good shape to walk her. The ideal owner is able to take both Surly and her brother Finn or at least has another larger dog at home for Surly to play with. Ideally you have experience with the breed as well.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Plum but we affectionately refer to her as Alice, a name that seems to resonate well with her, even though her response to names is not particularly strong yet. Alice is thriving and displays a gentle and sweet demeanor, especially towards my 11-year-old son. Evidently, she has spent considerable time with children and relishes their company. She eagerly joins my son in bed, finding her way under the covers to peacefully doze off—a clear indication of her yearning for a permanent home. Alice's physical attributes contribute to her charm, boasting surprisingly soft fur and a tender face, possibly hinting at some American Bulldog lineage. She delights in showering affection by licking faces endlessly and enjoys being cradled on her back like a baby for extended periods. While she responds well to commands like "crate up," occasional reinforcement is needed. Generally quiet and composed once settled, Alice has never indulged in people food, eliminating any begging behavior. However, if something piques her interest, she positions herself as close as allowed, even attempting to snatch it if not deterred. Her recall skills, especially outdoors, are lacking, likely stemming from a past where she had ample freedom to roam. Reactivity and impulse control pose challenges, particularly around lawnmowers, other dogs, loud vehicles, and joggers. Her behavior around these situations can be unpredictable at times so it necessitates careful management with a gentle leader and harness. A friend, who is a dog trainer, has confirmed these challenges but believes they are not insurmountable, with patience and professional guidance. Residing in a wooded area with a fenced yard, Alice spends her time observing wildlife, offering a positive outlet for her energy. She coexists well with another dog in the household, and her occasional resource guarding has significantly diminished over time. Despite some stubbornness, Alice is bright and quick to learn when motivated. Her sleep habits lean towards a more laid-back hound-like pattern, not exhibiting an early riser tendency. Alice's athleticism shines through in the backyard, where she bounces energetically and engages in enthusiastic pursuits. It's worth noting that she has endured past abuse, evident in moments of flinching during seemingly innocuous activities, highlighting the importance of understanding her background in shaping her behavior. Overall, with the right guidance and patience, Alice, the sweet and spirited dog, has the potential to overcome her challenges and thrive in a loving forever home. Plum is from a local impound. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Hi, I’m Chewy! Some of my favorite things are chew toys, tennis balls, wet food, and people! I’m picking up on potty training quickly when taken out frequently throughout the day, and I am generally quiet in my crate at night—I might whine a little at first because I just want to be next to my person, but once I settle down, my foster mom has been able to sleep through the night. I have also done well with the cats in my foster home. I mostly ignore them. I do like to use my mouth to play, so I need someone who is dedicated to puppy training and providing me with plenty of appropriate things to chew on. If you’re ready for puppy energy, I would love to be your new best friend! Chewy is from a local reservation partner. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. *This animal is a part of our “Seniors for Seniors” program where we offer senior adopters an opportunity to adopt an eligible pet at a discounted fee.* Hi All!  Phyllis here.  I've been with my foster mom now for about a month and we are really figuring each other out. I've worked really hard on my communication skills and now foster mom knows when I need to go potty or need something else (like pets and loves).  Sometimes she says I talk too much though, but really it's just cause I don't want her to forget about me. Sometimes she has the nerve to go in a different room without me so I have to let her know she forgot about me until I find her.  At night I don't sleep in a kennel anymore but instead I get to sleep on a big comfy pile of blankets.  I feel like the princess and the pea! The newest and best thing that we figured out is that I like to PLAY!  Foster mom brought me home a "lamby" from the rescue and I love it.  We play fetch with it and I almost always bring it back.  I like to snuggle and chew on it.  I love it.  I get tired pretty quickly but it's fun to play as long as I have the energy. When I'm done playing I like to take naps.  I'm pretty adamant that I like to be tucked in though, and sometimes I won't go to sleep if I'm not. Are you a good "tucker"? If so, I want to meet you. Phyllis needs a home where she can live out her days knowing she is loved and wanted for the beautiful heart that she has.  Adopting a senior dog is like getting a vintage car – it comes with character, a few extra quirks, and might need a bit more maintenance. Expect occasional tune ups at the vet for oil changes (aka meds), and embrace the fact that those 'normal lumps and bumps' are just part of the well-earned charm package! Ruff Start will share all known health information with adopters and rec ommendations to keep your senior dog in top shape. Phyllis is from a local impound.  If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. This is Rubble! We've been calling him Rumpy, like Rumplestilskin. He comes in like a wrecking ball at full speed, and is solid like a tank. He wants to be with you all the time, ideally on your face but he'll settle for your lap. He's been really friendly and playful with all the animals he's met, and every new person is a new best friend to love on! He takes a while to settle down, but then he'll snuggle in and be calm. He really loves to climb into bed and sleep with you! He has the cutest little sploot that he lays in almost all the time! Continue to check back as we get to know him more! Story
Meet Kenny! Kenny is everything you would want in a dog. He is extremely friendly with every person and pup he meets. He loves to go for walks and then snuggle on the couch afterwards. While he is a big dog, he doesn’t realize it and loves to be on your lap (well as much as he can fit). He is wonderful with his foster family’s toddler. He likes to greet him every morning with a kiss! He is also house trained! Recently Kenny spent some time at Lucy’s Doggy Daycare and he did amazing in the big pups park! He’s also good with small dogs and cats. While Kenny can be crated while you are away, he is not a fan of being in the crate while you are home, which is alright since he is not a destructive dog unless it’s a good chew toy! Kenny is a boxer mix about 2.5 years old and 65 pounds.IMPORTANT: Please read all below, especially if you live outside of Texas, which is where our rescue is located.Apply to adopt on our website: https://www.charmingpetrescue.org/adoptAll of our animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on shots.ALL of our animals are located in Boerne, TX, but transport after adoption is available to other states for a $300 fee for dogs or an additional fee varying by location for cats. Story
Meet Ruthie! She is 8 years old and weighs about 43 pounds. I think she looks like a Dalmatian mix but she has double dew claws like a great Pyrenese! We know from seeing sooo many DNA tests that she’s probably 10 breeds but if you want my best guess, there it is! Ruthie was found stray and came to us about 3 weeks ago. She was super shut down at the rescue and we thought maybe she didn’t feel well so she went to the vet and her bloodwork came back great! She’s healthy, but she was sad, so I brought her home to foster her. She has been SO GOOD with all of our other 7 dogs, boys and girls, large and small, PLUSSSS she’s GOOD WITH THE CAT! She hasn’t had a single accident and we’ve left her out for short periods of time while we are gone and she’s been perfect! She loves to sleep and snuggle and she’s way happier here in a home with people! She would make a very easy addition to any family!IMPORTANT: Please read all below, especially if you live outside of Texas, which is where our rescue is located.Apply to adopt on our website: https://www.charmingpetrescue.org/adoptAll of our animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on shots.ALL of our animals are located in Boerne, TX, but transport after adoption is available to other states for a $300 fee for dogs or an additional fee varying by location for cats. Story
This little alligator is Enzo - he is bouncy and squishy and as joyful as can be. He loves to chase balls and especially loves a krinkle toy. He likes to dig into his dog bed like he is searching for treasure. This kid also naps as hard as he plays. In his down time, he is a real snuggle bug. He doesn’t love to be carried around, but does love to sit in your lap while you watch tv. He always wants to play with our resident dog and is very intrigued by our resident cats and chickens, but isn’t quite sure what to do with them yet. Enzo is still just a baby and potty training is a work in progress, but he is very motivated by the treat rewards he gets for potty outside. He is also taking to crate training and loves to have his own den to retreat into. He is floppy and curious and independent and loyal. Any family would be lucky to have Enzo as their boy! Enzo is estimated to be 10 weeks old and 13 lbs. Since we don’t know the dog’s actual genetics, this is just a guess on breed and size when grown. All dogs have had a vet examination, are up to date on all vaccinations, have been given dewormer and heartworm prevention. Dogs over 7 months have been heartworm tested. If you are interested in meeting this dog please complete the adoption application on our website at http://www.safehandsrescue.org under Adopt and then we can contact you about setting up a meeting. We are also holding the following upcoming adoption events!
