Story
Y'all, our hearts cannot handle this sweet chonky cuddly guy nor can I handle his squishy wrinkled face. I don’t know about you but I am a total sucker for those smoosh face gentle giants. Sweet Sammie is a total lover boy and the distinguished gentleman type that loves his people, and just like his name, he has a face of an angel. Sweet Sammie is the definition of a soul dog and once he loves you, this boy LOVES you!
Watch his video and fall in love with this sweet angle face: https://youtu.be/OQCvVvD5eEA?si=XJNYHp868b1g2V7W
Sweet Sammie is believed to be an American Staffordshire mix approximately 2 years old and currently weighs 51 lbs. He is a rescue dog and with any rescue, it's always a mystery and we cannot guarantee breed or age.
When you first meet Sammie, you’ll instantly realize he has a sensitive, tender little soul that makes you want to just scoop him up and shower him with all the love in the world. He is a little shy at first when you first meet him and when he is in new environments, but after his initial shyness has passed, Sammie is all about showering you with love and snuggles. If you let him, he could probably lay in your lap, act like your own personal weighted blanket, and stay in that position long enough, we can guarantee the two of you will find yourselves dozing off for an afternoon nap. He really is a total cuddle bug and actually appreciates when you wrap him up in a little blanket burrito, getting him all tucked in for snuggles. Speaking of blanket burrito, Sammie’s foster brags about how he loves to wear his sweaters! FYI, he wears a size L for reference.
Sammie is dog friendly and has done great meeting all of the dogs we have introduced him to and he loves his foster sibling who is a playful Golden Retriever. His shy gentle personality also shows itself when meeting new dogs and will do best with a doggy friend that will allow him to get the lay of the land and feel comfortable first. Once he’s adjusted in his new home, the rest is history!! You’ll find your resident dog and Sammie sunbathing together, snuggling up together for a nap, wrestling in the backyard, and doing everything together. All he needs is a little time to trust and he’s golden! His foster mom has even said that one of her favorite things about Sammie is how great he is with her dog and she loves watching them play and enjoying each other’s company.
Sammie also met our house cat Biggie and met him appropriately and was very respectful around him. He did not chase Biggie, nor was he bothered by Biggie jumping or doing what cats do. Biggie also felt comfortable around him as well. We do not know if Sammie has ever lived in a home before with a cat and this was our first time seeing him with a cat. If you have a cat in the home, we can arrange for him to have a sleepover with a cat upon request. Just let us know!
Sammie is a gentle gentleman who has spent time around younger children, even as young as 7 years old, and does just fine with them. While he’s good-natured and tolerant of the occasional squeal or quick movements from younger children, he tends to be happiest around older kids. Older children, around 13 and up, are more in tune with his boundaries; they’ll understand that he is a shy guy, when he needs space, and can respect his need for a little calm time. Sammie would be great in a home with 1–2 kids ages 14 and up, and if you have grandchildren or friends who have younger kids that come to visit on occasion, Sammie will be completely okay with that too because it’s not an everyday thing.
Sammie would thrive in a home that enjoys the simple moments in life, isn’t overly concerned with being the party house in the neighborhood, and is looking for a loving companion to take on leisurely walks around the neighborhood and snuggle with at night. If you’re someone who works from home, Sammie will be perfectly content settling on the floor next to your feet, keeping quiet, never getting into things he shouldn’t, and occasionally looking up at you or resting his head on your leg, nuzzling you for affection. Almost as if he knew you needed a five-minute breather from your computer. He has a well balanced energy and can match the energy of the room.
We can also picture Sammie enjoying porch sitting as a hobby too. He could sit next to you and watch the world pass by all day. Bonus points if squirrels like to make their presence known because he loves to watch squirrels and also chase them too. He can’t resist a little squirrely chase every now and then. Sammie would do great in either a home with a back yard or even an apartment/condo. He is currently fostered in an apartment/condo somewhat in the heart of Houston (but not directly) and does great in that environment. Granted, his foster's do have a small yard attached to their condo. Sammie loves to go on walks with his foster and foster sibling, it’s the highlight of his day. Just keep in mind he is going to need time to adjust wherever he lands. Sammie is crate trained, potty trained, and has wonderful house manners. His foster mom raved about how incredible his house manners have been and that he hasn’t had one accident! How impressive is that?! Truly, he’s a 10/10 and so deserving of a loving home!
We are willing to test Sweet Sammie with anything you need in order to ensure it's a perfect match. We can make anything happen! Just let us know.
