Bluey is an absolute gem! 💙 From the moment he saw me, we were friends. He was so happy to see a human coming toward him that he did a little tap dance — he simply couldn’t contain his excitement! And yet, despite being so happy, he was incredibly respectful of personal space. Bluey is perfectly content just trotting along beside you, and it’s absolutely heartwarming to see him check on you every once in a while, just to make sure you’re still there at the other end of the leash. 🥹 Walking him is a true pleasure. He’s gentle on the leash, doesn’t pull, and happily stops every now and then to sniff and explore. He will politely sit and wait for a treat, and he takes them so gently. He was completely unfazed by bicycles on the trail and paid no attention to other dogs or squirrels. Trust me when I say this, as someone who has four dogs of my own: Bluey is as easy as it gets! What this sweet boy really needs now is someone who will give him a nice bath so he can finally feel comfortable, a little patience while his skin heals and his gorgeous coat grows back, and most importantly, a loving home where he can feel safe and cherished. And in return? You will become his whole world. ❤️ Bluey literally just wants someone to love and someone to hang out with. He doesn’t ask for much — just a person to call his own. He truly is a gem, and he deserves to be someone’s very best friend. 🐾💙

Here is what the foster has to say! “ We have fostered Santa Flash since he was returned to BTR through no fault of his own. He is ridiculously affectionate to family and to people he knows. He plays hard, and he sleeps harder. He learns quickly and adjusts to new routines (like being on vaction) easily. He is house trained crate trained (see below for details) sleeps through the night dog friendly (see below for details) walks nicely on a leash rides nicely in the car treat motivated We put him in the crate for a few hours during the day, even when we’re home. He was crated while his original adopter worked, and we have continued that routine so he is used to being crated. He also sleeps in his crate at night. He would be fine sleeping in our room, but since we often have the 4 family dogs in our room, he’s in his crate. He definitely sees his crate as a safe space, and often goes there on his own. We have traveled with him, and having his crate with us made it easy for him to adjust to new environments. When we’re not in the home, he is always crated—he will pick up pencils and socks. He likes other dogs, but not all other dogs like him. Of our family dogs, 2 like him a lot, and the other 2 really don’t. When we were on vacation, he was boarded with a trainer, and he got along fine with her dogs. He is shy of strangers, so slow introductions are important. We have a routine when new people come over, which works really well. Sometimes, if a visit is going to be quick or it’s a worker, we just have him go in his crate, and he’s always content there. If you’re looking for a dog to go to brewpubs with and you have lots of company frequently, he’s not the right dog for you. But if you are willing to take things at his pace, he will be very loving with friends. Although he likes children, he startles easily, so he is not a good fit for a home with small kids. He is not a barker most of the time, but he does like to look out the window, and occasionally will bark when people walk by. He will usually bark when people walk up to the house. He’s easy to please—he likes all toys, all dog friendly fruits and vegetables, nylabones, and ice cubes. Flash has so much love to give, and some lucky family is going to be lucky enough to receive it all.”

Blue Moon is at our shelter. He will also be at our adoption event at PetSmart in Northbrook (291 Skokie Blvd.) on 10/24/26, from 10 AM to 12 PM! Once in a Blue Moon, a dog like this comes along! Meet Blue Moon, a 3-year-old, 60-pound hunk of Australian Shepherd who is every bit as wonderful as he is handsome. And that's saying a LOT. Blue Moon comes to us from a partner shelter in Kentucky, where he ended up after being abandoned in an apartment when his owners were evicted. We didn't know much about him or what to expect when he arrived, but we knew one thing: the moment we saw that picture of his long, luxurious chest locks blowing in the breeze, we HAD to have him. Just look at that magnificent mane! As luck would have it, Blue Moon is not only ridiculously good-looking, but also one of the sweetest, goofiest boys you could ever hope to meet. He has a wonderfully endearing, happy-go-lucky, slightly doofus energy that makes it impossible not to smile around him. He's just a big, fluffy, lovable goober who seems genuinely delighted to be alive. And speaking of delighted, we need to talk about his tail. Or rather, his lack of one. Blue Moon has the classic Aussie nub, and because he's pretty much always happy, his entire back end is in a near-constant state of motion. He doesn't so much walk over to greet you as booty-shake his way into your heart. That little nub goes a million miles an hour, and it's one of the cutest things we've ever seen. Blue Moon has already won us over with his good looks, goofy charm, and irresistible wiggle butt. Now all he needs is someone to fall as hard for him as we have. Because a dog this handsome AND this lovable will only come along once in a Blue Moon... Blue Moon's adoption fee is $300. This animal is neutered and is up to date on core vaccines. Blue Moon is Heartworm positive and is undergoing treatment with us. Heartland will cover the cost of treatment until he is Heartworm negative. Heartworm disease is common in dogs throughout the United States. It is a mosquito-borne disease and is not contagious to humans or other pets. If left untreated, heartworm infection can be deadly, but thankfully his Heartworm infection was identified and is being treated, and the prognosis is excellent. Heartworm disease is both preventable and curable. Once cured, a normal quality of life can be expected. It is important for all dogs to stay on lifelong Heartworm prevention, as even Heartworm positive dogs can be reinfected at any time if not current on preventions. Blue Moon is on a 28 day course of antibiotics, after which he will receive three injections to treat his Heartworm (the first one will be on 11/18/26; with the final two on 12/16 and 12/17). All treatments will take place at our shelter with our veterinarian. That will complete the treatment, but he will need a quick retest at the adopter's vet 9 months post-treatment to make sure that he is Heartworm-free.

Here is what someone said about Ricky’s Dog Day Out! “ Ricky started the day feeling a little nervous and unsure of the world. We had about a 25-minute car ride, and he had a hard time settling in at first. Once we got out, we went on a long walk, and he didn’t seem to mind the rain at all! Ricky was wonderful on our walk. He never pulled, consistently checked in to make sure I was still there, and never wandered too far. We walked past construction, cars, barking dogs, and plenty of people, and he seemed much more interested in moving along and exploring the world than interacting with everyone around him. He was happy to keep moving, taking in all the sights, sounds, and smells. He was startled by sudden, loud noises, but overall, he handled the outside world really well. Once we got home, I dried him off with a towel and discovered that he loves a good butt scratch! After a little time to settle in, he found the couch and decided that was his spot for the rest of the afternoon. He loved looking out the window, being pet (seems to be his #1 favorite thing) and eventually took a well deserved nap. On the drive back, he even laid down in the car for the majority of the way, which felt like a little victory after how unsettled he was on the way there. He is extremely gentle and sweet and has such a curious heart, I could really see him thriving in a peaceful home with someone will help him continue to discover that the world isn't such a scary place after all. He seems to build trust when he's allowed to approach things at his own pace. I'm really glad I could give him a calm, comfortable place to decompress for a few hours. Thank you for letting me spend the day with him!”
