Story
Bentley is fostered in Pleasonton, KS. Meet Bentley.  Bentley was surrendered to us when his owner had some medical issues and was unable to continue caring for him.  Bentley came in a little under-socialized and slightly overweight but he has come A LONG WAY! Bentley is 3 year old male Australian Shepherd mix who is working towards his ideal weight of approximately 50 lbs.   Bentley previously spent great deal of time in his crate.  For this reason, he did not receive proper socialization. Socialization is something his foster home has diligently been working on with him.  She has been desensitizing him to many things, including leash walking, grooming, other dogs and other people.  Bentley previously experienced some fears in some area, but he really has put in a lot of work and he is making wonderful progress in all areas. Bentley is in a foster home with several other dogs of ages and sizes, and does well with them.  We are unsure about cats.   Bentley is more of a low-key guy who is looking for an adopter who enjoys the same type of lifestyle. He prefers a home where there are less comings and goings.  We also recommend a physically fenced yard and a home that is both patient and has no children under age 12.  Bentley is a talker. The more you talk to him, the more he expresses his feelings.  Bentley is what we term a "work in progress", but he is the type of dog that will quickly become your best friend once trust is gained between you.  Are you looking for your new best friend? Bentley is neutered, up-to-date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative, microchipped and receiving monthly preventatives for fleas, ticks and heartworms.  Proof of heartworm prevention for any current or previous pets is required to adopt from our organization.  For more information on our adoption process or to complete an adoption application, please visit our website at www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org. NOTE:  All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers so we need an approved application on file to set up a meet with a dog you might have an interest in.  Please visit our website for more information on our adoption process, our adoption fees and a link to our adoption application.  We pride ourselves on matches that work for both the dog and your family.  MASR is here for your support, advice and safety net for our dogs for the remainder of their lives.  www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org ##2407689##

Story
Steel is fostered in St Louis MO Steel is your next adventure dude!  He was a stray that showed up to a home and never left.  Given their children were allergic, he is now in foster care with us.  Steel is estimated to be 7-8 months of age and is approximatley 35 - 40 lbs.  He has a gorgeous blue merle coat with piercing blue eyes.  He is ready to trade his street past for a purpose.  Left behind in the freezing cold with snow on the ground, a kind woman and her daughter found him abd kept him safe and warm while they searched for an owner, with no luck.   Steel is a young, working-dog boy with puppy energy and a big heart. He is affectionate, intelligent and bonds deeply with his people. He wants to be involved and longs for a purpose and a family to show him what belonging feels like.  Given his stray background, Steel will need an adopter who is committed to some basic obedience, along with structure and direction. As with any young aussie, he desires a consistent routine, supervision, plus some patience during the transition into your adoptive home.  Steel is super smart and eager to please. Given his lack of an previous training, he is still learning potty training, basic manners and house manners.  Steel will require a physically fenced yard and some additional work on leash walking.  Steel is in a foster home with other dogs of all ages. He has done fabulous with them, even wanting to engage in play.  We are unsure about cats or small children.  While Steel didn't have the best start, he has proved himself very eager to please and would make a wonderful addition to the active home.  He might even be good at a dog sport: agility, herding work, scent work, hiking/running, farm or acreage life. Steel is neutered, up-to-date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative, microchipped and receiving monthly preventatives for fleas, ticks and heartworms.  Proof of heartworm prevention for any current or previous pets is required to adopt from our organization.  For more information on our adoption process or to complete an adoption application, please visit our website at www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org. Story
Penny is fostered in Indianapolis, IN Penny is a little girl, at just 25 lbs.  She is a 2 ISH year old female red tri Mini Australian Shepherd AKA Mini American Shepherd. She landed in a Kansas shelter, which is no place for for an Aussie. Penny has been in foster care for a month now and is in search of her adoptive home. It is clear that Penny did not have any formal training in her past.  Penny is an intelligent girl who has learned several commands:  heel, sit, down, off, wait, and leave it.  She would do best with someone who is willing to invest in some basic obedience with her and maybe even a dog sport to help her brain blossom.  She is wonderful on leash and she gives the most FABULOUS hugs.  Penny does have strong herding insticts and has been known to herd the household.  For this reason, her ideal home would have kids over 10 years of age.   Penny is a fantastic car rider and loves to run errands with her foster family.  Her foster family is still working on mastering crate training and potty training, training she did not get in her past life. She would do best on a very consistent schedule to solidify those things. Penny enjoys leash walks and might even be a good fit for someone wanting a pint sized running partner.  Penny loves chewing on bones and can be found spending her idle time doing this. Penny is a higher energy girl that wants to work, is eager to please, a quick learner and wants someone to help her keep learning fun stuff! Penny does not know a stranger!  She is a total lovebug and loves everyone she meets.  She also did FANTASTIC at the groomers for her bath, groom and nail trim.  If you're interested in this fantastic young girl and getting to shape her into the best version of herself, please visit out website to complete an adoption application. Penny is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on all vaccinations and receiving monthly prevention for fleas, ticks and heartworms. She does require a committed adopter who is willing to devote a minimum of 2 hours of mental and physical stimulation per day. MASR is here for your support, advice and safety net for our dogs for the remainder of their lives.  www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org ##2647093##

Fostered in Salem, WI. These adorable puppies were born February 5, 2026, and are growing into happy, fluffy little personalities! There are seven puppies total, four girls and three boys, and all of them have full tails and are starting to get their soft puppy fluff. Their mom, Paoli, came into rescue as a stray while pregnant, so we aren’t exactly sure what the puppies are mixed with. What we do know is they are absolutely adorable and already showing sweet, playful personalities. Even at this young age, these puppies are starting early socialization and gaining confidence as they explore the world around them. They are being exposed to normal household activity and human interaction to help set them up for success in their future homes. Because they are young puppies, they will need families who are committed to continuing their development. This includes: Ongoing socialization Positive training Potty training Plenty of exercise and mental stimulation Puppies are a lot of work, but the reward is a lifelong companion. With the right guidance, these little ones will grow into wonderful companions! Puppies will be 8 weeks on April 2nd, 2026 and ready to go to their forever homes! Story
Barry is being fostered in Griffith, IN. Barry is an approximately 2 ½ year old red-tri Aussie looking for a forever home to finally have a place he can come into his own! His birthday is unknown, but this good boy looks forward to celebrating his gotcha day every year with his people!  At 45 lbs, Barry is a medium sized boy that has mastered basic commands and potty training. He can either indicate when he needs to go out or ring potty bells and is working on learning more advanced commands of “spin” and “stay”. He is also so well-behaved that he doesn’t require a crate but is undergoing crate training, just in case it is the preference of his forever home. Additionally, Barry is perfectly content on car rides and will lay down for the journey. Heavy duty toys and balls are a MUST for this pup, as he loves to play and he knows how to take apart a plushie dog toy. Bask in his beautiful, loving eyes while receiving Barry cuddles between games of fetch. Barry loves playing with toy balls the most and will do so inside or in the backyard. Please note it is currently unknown if he requires a fence, but his habit appears to be staying with his people and his toys when in the backyard.  Speaking of toys, Barry adores his toys so much that we recommend he live as the only dog in his household, as he gets protective over his prized possessions with other dogs. Barry also highly cherishes his people and will protect them through thick and thin, so no rough housing around this pup or expect a nip. Given his protection skills, it is recommended that Barry live in a child-free household or, at the very least, no children under the age of 14 years old. As much as Barry loves to play outside, he is not thrilled with required grooming, but he loves a good food-based distraction to help him persevere through his grooming needs. He will also require some high-quality treats to redirect his attention during walks because, though he is fantastic on the leash, he does display reactive barking towards other people and dogs out in the world. Lastly, Barry has never met a cat, so it is unknown how he will react, but we do know he is ready to love his human(s) as soon as possible! Barry is neutered, up-to-date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative, microchipped and receiving monthly preventatives for fleas, ticks and heartworms.  Proof of heartworm prevention for any current or previous pets is required to adopt from our organization.  For more information on our adoption process or to complete an adoption application, please visit our website at www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org.
