Story
Jack Blue aka Jacks is fostered in Wayland, MI
Hi Everybody! My name is Jack Blue aka Jacks. My foster mom calls me Jacks because she says I remind her of the game with the ball and jacks: bouncy at times and trying to pick up things. I am a 15-month-old standard Blue Merle mail with copper and white markings; plus I have a beautiful tail. I weigh about 48 lbs. and look good! I have heterochromatic eyes, which just means one is blue and the other is brown! Pretty cool, huh?
I am a young dog so would love a new home that is more on the active side. I would love to go on adventures: swimming, hiking, car rides, sniff-faris, or just picnics in the park. I would also be happy with play sessions at home. It would be aussome if there was another dog in the house as I do play well with others! I am learning from my dog foster brother how to play and engage with others less exuberantly and read body cues better. Besides being a great companion and adventurer, I might be a good candidate for a dog sport like agility, fly ball, rally, or something that would improve my obedience, build our bond/relationship and do fun things together!
I was raised with 3 young kids, but I would do better with kids 12 and up. I am young and have lots of energy and don’t always pay attention to where I am going while playing. I run into my foster mom’s legs a lot while playing with my foster brother! I am curious and friendly with cats, but want to chase and play with them.
I am a smart dog and know basic commands: sit, come, stay, leave it, no, and down. I am getting these reinforced everyday through daily activities and training sessions. I listen better if food is involved. I can get stubborn or have selective hearing at times, but I am learning. Patience and consistency are my foster mom’s motto. I also follow my foster brother’s lead by doing what he does. In the end, I do what is asked because I love getting praised and rewarded! I am a great dog who only wants to please you.
My weakest skill is loose leash walking and heeling. I just want to go and can pull like a sled dog! I am just excited, ready to go and not trained completely in this area. I AM NOT being disrespectful, dominant, or bad, just an eager dog, ready for adventures. My foster mom works on this daily in the house and yard (less distractions) on and off leash. We also practice on leash in quiet public areas every chance we get. She is also working on door manners (not bolting out when door is open). I am learning to “wait” and this is the cue word she uses. I am also learning “take a break” when it’s time to settle down.
I have a good off switch but am always ready for fun! I am down for snuggles, belly rubs, kisses, and any other affection. I will be your shadow! I am house trained, and crate trained (I like to be left alone while crated - my space), but because I am a good dog, I can be left out without any issues. I can be mischievous and get into things sometimes, but it's just because I am still learning and being taught what is acceptable and what is not. I have do great with grooming needs as well and at bedtime, I get a biscuit EVERY night. That’s my cue that it’s rest time.
I am patiently waiting for my forever home and will be the best thing that happens to you! I am waiting to give you unconditional love, be your adventure buddy and your loving companion! Jacks is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all vaccinations and receiving monthly prevention for fleas, ticks and heartworms. He does require a committed adopter who is willing to devote 1 - 2 hours of mental and physical stimulation per day.
NOTE: All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers so we need an approved application on file to set up a meet with a dog you might have an interest in. Please visit our website for more information on our adoption process, our adoption fees and a link to our adoption application. We pride ourselves on matches that work for both the dog and your family. MASR is here for your support, advice and safety net for our dogs for the remainder of their lives. www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org
