Story
Meet Cashew! Cashew is a nut of an Australian Shepherd, currently in Northern Virgina. At 16 months, he is pure teenager, and looking for a family that he can play with and learn how to be a gentleman. Cashew is rough and tumble, and very mischievous. He grew up with big and small dogs, as well as with cats and has definite preferences – and boy, does he let you know! Cashew is house trained and crate trained and is also, not destructive. He is an Aussie on steroids; LOVING, rambunctious, opinionated, and pushy. He gets along very well with my male Aussie who is a bit larger than he is, and usually ignores the cats. However, he does have significant prey drive and does need to be monitored with cats who run. Cashew is a lovely companion dog and likes nothing better than to hang with his people. He is a good office dog. He is absolutely not aggressive to people and enjoys both men and women. No stranger danger here! Cashew loves to play with our resident Aussie and plays hard. He would do well with another larger mellow, stable dog who is balanced in dominance/submissiveness. He is a NO on small dogs and has proven to be dog reactive and dog aggressive on walks. The reactivity is a training issue and any potential adopter would need to continue working on this, as he can re-direct (accidently) on his human. He is also reactive to trucks, but rapidly improving. We are walking him on a front lead harness which helps with control. When there are no distractions, he walks easily and paces with you. However, if a large truck comes rumbling by, he will lunge and bark. He is amenable to distractions and treats in this case. With dogs, not so much. He will lunge and bark until he can no longer see the dog. He calms then. If a dog comes running up to him, he will attack him. For this reason, I do not recommend him to a family with children. All children should be older (ie over 15). Cashew’s reactivity to dogs is his only negative trait. He is a Velcro dog with his person, but loves the entire family. When I leave the room, he follows. He loves to cuddle and can be demanding for attention. He will shower you with kisses and flop over so you can pet his belly. Cashew is high on the energy level. He is fine in the car and has no fear of thunderstorms. He is food motivated which makes training easier. He also wants to please, and he is SMART. Cashew is athletic and fun to watch – he is starting to love his toys, will retrieve and loves to wrestle with larger dogs that he knows. He does like to bound around. Cashew has recently been neutered and is a very healthy dog. He is up to date on vaccinations and preventatives. In summary, Cashew is a teenage Aussie who is people oriented. He will need an experienced Aussie owner who will train him in his reactivity and impulse control. He would love a certain sort of dog pal to work off his energy in play, but would also do well in the home as an only dog. If Cashew sounds perfect for you, please fill out our application: https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application There is an additional $20 microchip fee which includes registration and transfer to his new family. All adoption fees are used for future rescue efforts.

Story
We are trying to help this sweet girl called Bonnie Belle to find a home since her elderly parents are in failing health and cannot care for their five dogs.  Bonnie Belle is a mix of some interesting breeds.  We think she has some Aussie and maybe Boxer in her.  The Australian Shepherd trait is what makes her a protector of the yard and home when strangers approach.  She is the home security dog officer!   This girl is losing her home because her elderly parents have fallen into bad health.  Bonnie Belle is 4 years old and weighs a little over 40 pounds.  She adores people and is good with the other dogs that she spends time with in the fenced yard.  She is housebroken, affectionate and a devoted girl to her family.  If you would like to give Bonnie her next forever home, please email Critter Cavalry Rescue who is helping her at ccrnewengland@gmail.com PLEASE NOTE:   Our dogs and cats are fostered in Tennessee and can transport weekly up to the Northeast region.  Request an application and learn more about Critter Cavalry at https://www.crittercavalry.com/adoption.April 22, 2024, 1:56 pm

Story
Lora Lee is a very sweet dog that is just 2 years old and weighs 35 pounds.  She is said to be an Aussie mix with some Terrier.  Whatever the mix is we think she is a most unusual and truly a beautiful girl who well with other dogs in her foster home.  She is a friend to all and apparently she is house trained as long as taken out regular. Lola Lee is crate trained but cannot be left for long hours in the crate.  She is not leash trained  but is trying to improve.   We are requesting that applicants have a fenced yard for her because she is an active girl that needs to run and play with freedom and not at the end of a leash only. This beauty loves to cuddle and be by your side like your BFF and shadow. If you have another dog that would be great for her to have a playmate that can help her wear out her energy every day.  Lola Lee is a great girl and she is going to need an active family that can challenge and meet her need for exercise and be able to keep up with her.   She is really not a dog for a retirement couple that are ready to have a more laidback dog with fewer exercise demands.  If you are interested in this girl please email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrnewengland@gmail.com PLEASE NOTE:   Our dogs and cats are fostered in Tennessee and can transport weekly up to the Northeast region.  Request an application and learn more about Critter Cavalry at https://www.crittercavalry.com/adoption.April 22, 2024, 1:56 pm

Story
Hello, you lucky people! I know, when you hear the name Bianca you think of Beautiful and of course I am all of that and more.  But even though I am small in stature, but big in personality, I am an adorable force of nature. How big will I be when I grow up? Who knows, but my foster mom says I have enough cuteness and cuddles for any size.I am crate-trained, which is not the same as housebroken, but it means I don’t mind being in my crate and usually keep it clean and dry. I might holler and howl out of protest when you first put me in my crate, but my foster mommy says don’t be fooled. I’ll settle down with a blanket and toy after a little while. When I first go to a new home I will just have to get used to being without my brothers and sisters and get used to my new family. I sleep in my crate at night just fine but with company. I love mealtime and I also love to chase toys. If you get me settled on a blanket next to you, I love a good snuggle time filled with love.I’m ready. Come and get me! Love, Bianca.   Contact Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrnewengland@gmail.com     PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.com  April 22, 2024, 1:56 pm

Story
Meet Barook! He's a 3 yr old Border Collie and Pyrenees mix with a beautiful coat and a handsome smile. He is very expressive and likes to "talk" when happy or ready to go for a car ride. Barook is a well balanced dog who enjoys hiking, swimming and chasing squirrels but is also gentle, observant and likes his "me" time too. He's always alert, very responsive and is willing to learn new commands and tricks, with a little treat to encourage him.Barook recently visited the local animal hospital for blood work and x-rays. He was positive for Lymes Disease but shows healthy signs of low antibodies. He's had a wonderful transformation since taking medication and is alive as can be! He interacts well with people, young and old, and dogs. Rarely does he become leash reactive but if/when he does, it's because of his protective nature. However, Barook is not an aggressive dog and is quick to respond and be redirected when needed. He would do great with a family or a single person. Meet him!
