If you are interested in adopting this dog, please fill out an Adoption Questionnaire at  https://petstablished.com/adoption_form/43315/gener.You can learn about the adoption process by visiting: http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/howtoadopt/.Dog's Name:   Rufus  (RUF0624MCTMD)Estimated Breed:   Australian Shepherd MIXApproximate Age:   2 yearsApproximate Weight:   55 lbsCurrently Living at:   FosterAdoption Fee:   $400DOG'S DESCRIPTION:  Hi there, I'm Rufus, and I've had a bit of a rough transition, but I am in a great foster home now with another resident doggie. As you can see from my photos, I've had a hair cut to fix my matted coat, but don't worry, I'll be fluffy again in no time! My foster mom says that I am still settling in and just starting to relax, but that I seem to like people and other dogs and I have a sweet personality. I am not currently using a crate, but at the beginning, I was fine sleeping in one; and, so far, seem to be housetrained. I also know how to walk on leash. Here's an update from my foster mom: Rufus loves to play with toys! As a young pup, he enjoys moving them around and munching on them. He can also fetch! - he will get the ball and bring it back, even though he is still learning to let it go so you can throw it again. He is learning "sit" and most of the time can do it when offered a treat. He is eating well and resting by my feet when we are not out and running. He has good interactions with dogs - both with Leia, but also when we meet dogs in the street. He loves cuddling and really enjoys being petted and hugged.  If you are interested in adopting me please submit an application today!Your new pet will require a refresher in house-training. K-9 Lifesavers strongly recommends all new adopters enroll their new pet into obedience training. This provides for an easier transition into a new home, ensures the dog remains well socialized, and helps form a bond between the dog and the new family.    Adoption fees cover basic vetting, rabies (if puppy is old enough), distemper/parvo vaccinations, deworming, monthly heartworm prevention while in our care (if old enough), monthly flea/tick prevention while in our care, and transport costs. K-9 Lifesavers will also cover the cost of spay/neuter at our partner vet at 6 months of age or reimburse adopter for up to the amount of our partner vet cost should you choose to spay/neuter at your own vet.       Foster Program:    Foster homes provide for the temporary care of a rescue until the dog is placed into a loving, forever home.  For more information on becoming a foster parent, and our Foster Program, visit http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/foster/ or email our Foster Coordinator at foster@k-9lifesavers.orgSPONSOR ME! Help Save Lives!    Make a tax-deductible donation today and help save a life. Ophelia is a super sweet, gorgeous dog who adores people. She's great with other dogs (but could also be on her own). She is housebroken and smart. She would thrive in a training class as she's an eager learner. She is @40 lbs and we estimate 2 years old. Aussies generally make excellent watchdogs and are known for their playful and affectionate natures.    Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 19, 2023, 12:13 am

Story
5 month old Opal is a 17 pound Miniature Australian Shepherd mix and eager for her furever home! We expect her to be between 30-40 pounds when she's done growing! She’s already a star in her puppy classes. She loves literally every human ever - young, old, man, woman - she doesn’t discriminate and wants to be best friends with everyone and will implore you to give her scratches and belly rubs. In fact, regardless of what’s going on, she’ll pretty much stop in her tracks if a belly rub is being offered. She is super smart and treat-motivated, so she’s a very quick learner. In puppy class, the instructor will often use her to demonstrate how to ask for a new behavior because Opal is sure to pick it up so quickly. She’s already doing great with so many cues including if you so much as say her name a certain way or clear your throat, she will automatically presume a default lay down position; she knows “touch” (a way of teaching “come”) and “place” (setting out a mat without you saying a word and she’ll go to sit/lay down on the mat) plus many more cues. She can learn just about any cue with treat motivation! She’s also doing great with loose-leash walking. Like most pups her age she is in her teething phase, but she’s not destructive. She has gone for the low-hanging shoe or sock, but loses interest pretty quickly and hasn’t destroyed anything in the house at all. At five months old, she certainly has her bursts of puppy energy, but she also has an amazing “off” switch, both on command (as mentioned above with the learned cues using treats) and naturally as she will chill out for a long time after her walks. Her family should be active and enjoy taking her for walks/exercise. She has even had her first creek swim and would enjoy more opportunities for water play. She loves playing in the overflow water from an open fire hydrant like no one’s business! Opal is very affectionate and loves sleeping next to her person or in their knee nook when napping on the couch. She currently sleeps in her crate next to the human bed at night. She enters her crate on command, as well as of her own volition when she’s ready for a nap throughout the day. While we always recommend slow and proper introductions, so far Opal has always been chill around cats with no barking, chasing, or other overly-interested behavior.Opal can get overwhelmed when meeting new dogs, but with proper introductions, she really loves to make new friends, have a buddy to play with, and will become the bounciest, most playful little pup! She’s probably not a dog-park kind of dog, but would love a family that properly introduces her to a roster of go-to buddies, so she can have playdates with familiar friends.Opal may have experienced some scarcity early in life as she has displayed possessiveness over what she perceives to be high-value foods. She’s never exhibited that behavior when it comes to training treats, kibble, yak chews, several other yummies, or toys, but there are some “special” yummies she resource guards. While she’s working on learning that she has everything she needs and that there’s no need to be overprotective, it’s best for her to be the only full-time dog in the home or be slowly introduced to the resident dogs & eat everything completely separately (in crate) as well as not be allo, so that she doesn’t have to stress over the fear of not having enough. She has resource-guarded against the resident dog when it comes to human food dropped by the resident toddler, so even though Opal gets along with all humans, she would probably do best in a home without super young kiddos who could accidentally get caught in the middle. We will not allow her to go to a home with kids under the age of 8 for this reason. As mentioned, Opal absolutely loves people and is in the process of learning that it’s okay to be home for a bit alone without them. For that reason, she’d do best in a single family home, so that she doesn’t bother the neighbors while she settles down after her people leave the house. She will often not even pay attention to her people initially leaving the house when left with a yummy in her crate.Opal has so many glorious qualities, is swoon-worthy cute, and she’s hoping her forever family is ready to scoop her up!Overall, we would love Opal to find a loving home with older kids and someone who works from home is ideal. You must live in a house, NOT an apartment or any type of place where you share walls with neighbors.***OPAL IS FOSTERED IN WASHINGTON, D.C., BUT AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION AND TRANSPORT OUT OF STATE. Read below for more information. Our dogs are transported to a predetermined location agreed upon by the rescue (unless we are able to meet up with adopters within a couple hours or adopter can drive to get the dog). The adoption contract and fee are finalized prior to transport/transfer to adopter. As a Pep's Pals Rescue direct adoption, the adoption interview/meet and greet occurs on video call (Skype, FB Messenger call, FaceTime, etc) unless adopter is able to travel to meet. Our adoption fee is $350 plus health certificate and transport if you are too far to drive to pick up within a couple hours of Maryland (transport cost varies by location). This fee includes all current vaccinations, deworming, microchip, fecal analysis, spay, and a heartworm test. All dogs are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention. Story
Tuck is an incredibly sweet, gentle dog. He was brought into a shelter with 2 other dogs, because their owner was allowing them to roam at large, and he was about to get into trouble. It's a good thing for Tuck though, becuase now he can have the kind of family who will cherish and protect him. Tuck looks just like a Great Pyr, but without the size. He is just 45 lbs. This gorgeous boy has been so good with other dogs, and when an 11 year old girl visited him, he was the perfect gentleman, allowing her to walk him on a leash with ease. He was polite and not rowdy in any way, despite the face that he is only about 2 years old. He is crate trained, and even though he would prefer not to be in a crate, but out with the family instead, he does tolerate it and has no accidents there. Tuck also gets along great with other dogs - allowing them their space and waiting to be invited in. He can be slightly timid with people he does not know, but bonds VERY quickly. He wants his own family to love and be loved by. Tuck has been neutered, is up to date on his vaccines and dewormings and has been microchipped. He's looking for his perfect person, who thinks he is perfect as well. His adoption fee is $450. www.tinyurl.com/adopt-shpr

Story
We are trying to help this sweet girl called Bonnie Belle to find a home since her elderly parents are in failing health and cannot care for their five dogs.  Bonnie Belle is a mix of some interesting breeds.  We think she has some Aussie and maybe Boxer in her.  The Australian Shepherd trait is what makes her a protector of the yard and home when strangers approach.  She is the home security dog officer!   This girl is losing her home because her elderly parents have fallen into bad health.  Bonnie Belle is 4 years old and weighs a little over 40 pounds.  She adores people and is good with the other dogs that she spends time with in the fenced yard.  She is housebroken, affectionate and a devoted girl to her family.  If you would like to give Bonnie her next forever home, please email Critter Cavalry Rescue who is helping her at ccrnewengland@gmail.com PLEASE NOTE:   Our dogs and cats are fostered in Tennessee and can transport weekly up to the Northeast region.  Request an application and learn more about Critter Cavalry at https://www.crittercavalry.com/adoption.July 26, 2024, 2:09 pm
