Story
This sweetest of fellows is now named Oreo, and it's still so hard to believe that he was mere moments away from losing his life at an overcrowded shelter before I took him in. Since then, I've grown to love him and his endearing personality more and more each day. Nothing would make me happier than to simply keep him, but then I wouldn't be able to save another pup in desperate need. Oreo loves every person he meets, and even more so if you let him weave between your legs. His favorite things to do are go for walks and explore, relax in a sunny patch of grass, play fetch, and snuggle up next to his people. He's not an overly-cuddly dog, but he is very affectionate and loves to give kisses and be next to you in the home. He's good with other dogs - and lives with 2 others currently - but must be introduced properly and preferably only live with females. He'd most likely be good with children, as he's never shown any resource guarding or human aggression. Oreo is mostly blind in his left eye (the reason it appears blue) which I can only assume occurred after an untreated injury earlier in his life, but this doesn't slow him down or effect him in the slightest (evaluated by vet)! Plays fetch very well! He hates being crated, but doesn't need to be when left alone. We're working on his leash manners. He's very eager to please and listens well. Oreo LOVES to explore and see the world, and if he gets out the door or away from you on leash, you'll have a tough time getting him back. I'll discuss strategies to prevent him escaping and ways to lure him back with all potential adopters. He is very scared of thunderstorms, but is not loud or destructive - just trembles excessively and tries to hide. Oreo will need a home with a fenced backyard and someone able and willing to take him for a walk daily. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2rC2sYHJ3E  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioFfLCfIavI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fw2z6pjK1ZI Age:  7years  Weight:  65 lbs   Vetting: Up-to-date on vaccines, neutered, and heartworm negative   Temperament: Cautious meeting new people good with dogs and older respectful kids. Story
Marshall is a gorgeous fluffy white and black dog. He's friendly to all and has done fine with other dogs. He has an independent play style (live and let live.) He's a big dog at 73 lbs but still considers himself a lap dog. He's a good medium energy dog and playful. He loves chasing a ball and running around doing zoomies. Marshall would love to have a yard to run around in. Once he gets his energy out, he plops down and if a lap is available that's where he'll be. He's very sweet and gentle. He knows his sit command and he's calm, even-tempered , affectionate and treat motivated which makes him highly trainable. Marshall needs a home with people who understand he enjoys play time and cuddle time in equal measure. (He's a big believer in a balanced life style.) Marshall combines good looks and a loving personality all in one. He'll make a fantastic companion, a hiking, walking running , adventure buddy, followed by some cuddle time in your lap. What's not to love? Age: 3 years      Weight: 73 lb    Temperament: Good with dogs and  older sturdy kids as he needs to learn not to jump up,  Training: Knows commands:  sit.  Housetraining unknown currently in a shelter.   Vetting: neutered, up to date on vaccines, HW negative    For questions, please email:   nlherna@emory.edu  &#226&#128&#139  To ensure we're meeting both pet and adopters' needs, we ask potential adopters to complete an Adoption Application (www.bit.ly/DH-Adoption) for caretakers to review. Story
Sweet, shy, special Lizza... this wonderful roughly 2-year-old border collie is from working lines. She is shy and timid at first, and needs to go to a home where patients is a must! She also needs at least one other dog in the home to help get her comfortable. She loves people and kids, but again needs to be given appropriate time to acclimate to her new surroundings. She will play with toys. She enjoys the company of other dogs and she likes to go for walks. It may take her some time to get used to new surroundings but when she does she brightens right up! A home with older kids over eight would be best or with only adults. She is crate trained and housebroken. An ideal home for her would be one that gives her plenty of time and love and patience to acclimate appropriately, but also one that isn't going to coddle her and help her gain confidence in a new environment. She is not a typical active border collie, but does require some mental and physical stimulation throughout her day. Lizza is two and a half years old and is full grown at 36 pounds. Story
Let's get Shine a wonderful home! Shine is a quirky and spunky black and white Border Collie/Australian Cattle Dog. She would make someone an excellent hiking buddy or even just enjoy patrolling the yard. Once she opens up to a new person, she is loads of fun! And she is very young herself- she just turned 1 year old! See Shine was a semi-feral dog who was picked up by animal control and then rehabbed by a FABULOUS trainer and is looking for her own forever home! Her former trainer and foster mom worked with her to teach her positive associations with people and, because of her, we have been able to meet Shine as a spunky girl who has come a long long way from who she was. It helps too that she is super food motivated! The key with Shine will be finding a home who can provide the combination of love, structure, and safety that she needs. Shine is good with other dogs, kids, and cats. If you are interested in adopting Shine, please fill out an application at https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/FAY-A-7203 **Applications can take anywhere from 5-7 business days to complete. Story
Meet Carson Dukes. His eyes (one blue, one brown) are unique and strikingly gorgeous, one myth even says that dogs with two different color eyes can view heaven and earth at the same time. Carson is an adult Border Collie mix who has been with us since he was just a pup. Like some of our others he can be a bit shy and timid around new people so he would benefit from an adopter who is willing to spend some time with him at our kennel. Once he figures out who will be his friend he is very loving. Oh, and he is a bit of an escape artist, six feet or chain link does not hold a challenge for him. He never leaves us; he just doesn’t like to be fenced. Carson would be a great indoor companion with supervised outdoor exercise.  Carson recently spent some time in a foster home. He adjusted well to being a house dog, is crate trained, and almost housebroken. He got along with the other dogs, really enjoyed stretching his long legs running and playing in the yard, and was happily contained with the 8ft privacy fence. His foster family describes him as, "lovable, sweet, playful, and quirky in the most endearing way."  Carson's adoption fee includes neuter, microchip, current vaccinations, and up to date heartworm/flea/tick prevention.
