Story
This sweetest of fellows is now named Oreo, and it's still so hard to believe that he was mere moments away from losing his life at an overcrowded shelter before I took him in. Since then, I've grown to love him and his endearing personality more and more each day. Nothing would make me happier than to simply keep him, but then I wouldn't be able to save another pup in desperate need. Oreo loves every person he meets, and even more so if you let him weave between your legs. His favorite things to do are go for walks and explore, relax in a sunny patch of grass, play fetch, and snuggle up next to his people. He's not an overly-cuddly dog, but he is very affectionate and loves to give kisses and be next to you in the home. He's good with other dogs - and lives with 2 others currently - but must be introduced properly and preferably only live with females. He'd most likely be good with children, as he's never shown any resource guarding or human aggression. Oreo is mostly blind in his left eye (the reason it appears blue) which I can only assume occurred after an untreated injury earlier in his life, but this doesn't slow him down or effect him in the slightest (evaluated by vet)! Plays fetch very well! He hates being crated, but doesn't need to be when left alone. We're working on his leash manners. He's very eager to please and listens well. Oreo LOVES to explore and see the world, and if he gets out the door or away from you on leash, you'll have a tough time getting him back. I'll discuss strategies to prevent him escaping and ways to lure him back with all potential adopters. He is very scared of thunderstorms, but is not loud or destructive - just trembles excessively and tries to hide. Oreo will need a home with a fenced backyard and someone able and willing to take him for a walk daily. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2rC2sYHJ3E  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioFfLCfIavI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fw2z6pjK1ZI Age:  7years  Weight:  65 lbs   Vetting: Up-to-date on vaccines, neutered, and heartworm negative   Temperament: Cautious meeting new people good with dogs and older respectful kids. Thank you for your interest in one of our Hero Babies! Before inquiring, we thought it was important to share a few of our policies. Puppies - We do not adopt puppies under 16 weeks to out of state adopters. This is due to our spay/neuter policy, and all dogs must be spayed/neutered before leaving Georgia state lines. We do not adopt siblings to the same household. Your Current Pets - We do require that your current dogs and cats are current on vaccines and spayed/neutered. Adoptions - We do not have a shelter and are a foster-home based organization. We do require that you have an approved adoption application to schedule a meet and greet. You can fill out an adoption application on our website, www.herorescue.org/adopt. Once your application is approved it will be sent to the foster family that is currently caring for the dog. They will be able to provide information on likes, dislikes, personality, etc. They will also schedule a time for you to meet the dog. We do require a home visit prior to adoption. Story
MARIGOLD ~~ Cattle Dog/Shepherd Mix, Spayed Female, Rust/Red, 37 pounds, DOB: 12/16/2022 Do you love outdoor activities, playing games, hiking, running? Do you love dogs? So does Marigold! Come and meet your forever friend and give her the home she's been waiting for! Meet our sweet girl, Marigold, with a heart as big as Georgia and a personality to match! She is very smart, has a social, outgoing and loving personality, and absolutely loves to play games with anyone who will throw toys and balls to her. Marigold is a great dog and would love to find an active, energetic and fun-loving family, single person or couple to live with. She would benefit from a strong handler and some command training, and may also love a job to do. Herding breeds love to have a purpose and Marigold is no exception. She is super sweet, loving and has never met a stranger and seems to like the company of other friendly dogs. This girl is no couch potato and will enjoy some interactive play times each day. Marigold had a rough start in life and could really use a break. She was brought in to us several months ago with burns all over her back. She healed physically from that abuse, was adopted to a family and then returned for herding the small children and other dog living in the home. She is currently taking Trazodone for boarding related anxiety, but may be able to come off it once she is in a stable home environment. Marigold would love another non-aggressive and non-dominant doggie playmate, so if you are looking to add a pet to your home, come and meet this sweet girl. She may do best in a home without small children, as she tends to herd them to get them to notice her. Some little kids may be scared of this behavior. She loves to give hugs and is friendly, social and such a happy girl. Marigold would love to be your new best friend and would love a second chance at a great new life. A fenced backyard would be ideal for her and she might even love learn to about obstacle courses or playing Frisbee with you. Marigold is spayed, microchipped, up to date on all vaccines and vet services. Her adoption fee is $130. To meet Marigold and see if she is a good match, visit her at Crabapple Knoll Vet Clinic, 12604 Crabapple Road, Alpharetta, GA. 770.475.8272. Weekdays 630AM to 7PM, Saturday and Sunday 8AM to 4PM. We are closed on all major holidays. Please visit at least two hours prior to closing.
