Story

Kofi joined our family after being found in our neighborhood in August 2025. He is approximately 2.5 years old and is affectionate and bonded with his people. He enjoys long walks, playtime, and does best with regular activity and engagement. Like many dogs who did not receive consistent early socialization, Kofi has significant behavioral challenges that are important to share honestly so he can be matched with the right home. He requires an experienced, or very patient, handler who understands canine fear and reactivity. He often pulls on leash and becomes reactive when seeing other dogs and unfamiliar people. He is also not consistently comfortable with house guests. Kofi’s responses can include intense barking, lunging, and nipping, which should be expected. Due to having a cat in our home and current health and caregiving demands, we can no longer provide the consistency Kofi needs. We want him placed thoughtfully in a loving home prepared to meet his needs.

A securely fenced yard is a must for this curious explorer, and she’ll do best in a home that can provide regular exercise and mental stimulation. They have been taking great care of me here, and I even got to visit a couple of nice temporary foster homes during the recent snow and ice events, so that was a lot of fun! One of my temporary fosters said I “will make a lucky family a great companion.” I came in with some itchy skin and a little fur loss possibly from a flea allergy so I’m getting medicated baths to help with that. I’m now ready to find a great furever home of my very own – so that the fun can continue! • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I got along just great with the dogs I met in both temp. foster homes recently (though I may have mischievously stolen a toy or two, but only in a playful way – lol) , so – if you have a nice dog at home already, let’s meet! / Cats unknown. / I haven’t met kids yet at Mostly Mutts, so let’s meet and best no toddlers that I may bump over. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: Everyone agrees – I am a super sweet guy with a fun and loving personality! My mixed Border Collie breed shines through, as I am a smart boy, too. I’m keen to what is going on in my surroundings and will give ‘bark alerts’ for my family. Though I was initially scared of the bath sprayer for my first bath, I braved my way through and thoroughly enjoyed the rubs and scrubs that brought relief for my itchy skin. I’m also a big fan of Nylabones and STRONG chew toys. Treats? Yes, please. I also enjoy my walks and being near my people. Giving affection and making you smile – those are my favorite things! / I can’t think of any dislikes, though I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered. Meet Sugar Plum: All Around Great Dog! This is Sugar Plum! Her smile is genuine, and this happy girl is always smiling! Sugar Plum is approximately 1.5 years old and is a perfect size at roughly 45 pounds. She is potty trained, crate trained, and knows many basic commands including “sit”, “down”, and “stay”. You would never know by her friendly outgoing and happy demeanor that Sugar Plum had a rough start in life. As a puppy she was hit by a car, left untreated and eventually had one leg amputated. Sugar Plum bounced back beautifully, and her disposition is still sweeter and happier than just about any dog you’ll ever meet. Because of the amputation Sugar Plum is a tripod, but don’t let that dampen your enthusiasm because it doesn’t slow her down one bit! She doesn’t notice it, and neither will you when you meet her. She is a wonderful role model for people to see! Sugar Plum would fit right in with an active lifestyle and someone that will appreciate her fun spirit and loving companionship.
