Alder is basically the dog version of an introvert. Quiet, gentle, low-key, and completely content doing his own thing, Alder is one of the easiest and lowest-maintenance dogs I have ever had in the rescue out of hundreds of dogs. He is around a year old and was originally labeled as a pit bull mix at the shelter when he was younger and still looked like a generic puppy. But now that he is older, it is very obvious that he is not a pittie and instead looks much more like a Border Collie mix. Alder is wonderful with other dogs of all sizes and also great with cats. He peacefully coexists with everyone but honestly doesn’t care much about joining the chaos or playing constantly. He prefers to quietly exist nearby and observe the world at his own pace. He is shy and hesitant with new people at first, but there is not an ounce of aggression in him. He is simply a soft, sensitive dog who takes a little time to feel comfortable. Once he settles in, Alder is incredibly easy to live with. He is not demanding, not hyper, not loud, and not needy. He is the type of dog who quietly becomes part of your daily life without bringing chaos into it. Freckles across his nose, a little black “Batman mask,” happy tippy-taps when he’s excited, and a heart that clearly wants to belong… this is Holliday. Equal parts goofy charm and affectionate shadow, Holliday is the kind of dog who leans all the way into love. His biggest dream? A couch, a person, and permission to pretend he’s a lap dog. From the moment you meet him, Holliday’s affectionate nature is easy to see. He absolutely lights up when people give him attention and has a charming little habit of doing “tippy taps” with his feet when he’s happy or excited. It’s the kind of happy motion that makes everyone around him smile whether they are meeting for the first time or its a familiar connection. And inside its only sweeter, he is affectionate and his aspirations for lap-dog life really shine. Holliday is more than happy to make the first move and will come in close to soak up the love and lean in for a new nestling nose kisses. He is still learning some of the everyday things that come with the cozy life as a family dog. For example, couches were a new concept to him. When invited up, he wasn’t quite sure how to get there at first and needed a little boost. Moments like that tell us he’s likely still discovering what a comfortable home life looks like. The good news is that he’s eager to connect with people, smart and very responsive to guidance, which makes him a wonderful boy to open your heart and home to. On leash, Holliday is enthusiastic and currently pulls a bit, especially when he sees other dogs he’d like to meet. Much of his life before rescue life was spent on a very short leash outdoors so the world is understandably very exciting to him right now. With a confident understanding handler he has been making great progress with continued leash training. He is also very responsive to direction, correction, and listens well when told “no.” With other dogs, Holliday shows friendly curiosity. When meeting dogs he likes to sniff hello and then wander off to explore the yard. Play is still a bit of a mystery to him, but with the right dog companion we have seen he learns quickly and is easily invited to play even if she doesn’t know the steps after that. When meeting new dogs he reads them well and respects boundaries and limits easily. We can see him being a wonderful fit for a home with medium-energy, similarly sized dogs. Holliday is also very food motivated, which is wonderful for training. He eats enthusiastically and takes treats gently. Because Holliday can be a little jumpy, which he is working on, when he’s excited to receive affection, we think he’ll do best in a home with older kids who won’t be knocked over by his enthusiastic greetings. His affection truly comes from a joyful place and is gentle, not rough or heavy footed. He just hasn’t quite learned yet that hugs don’t always have to involve all four feet leaving the ground, but some people do enjoy those big, warm dog hugs. A home with a yard would be ideal for Holliday while he continues building his leash skills, giving him space to stretch his legs and explore safely. With time, guidance, and a loving environment, we think this freckled little masked hero is going to blossom into a wonderful, lap-loving, whole-new-world companion and sidekick. Zeus King of the Goldens is one of those dogs whose happiness is written all over his face. With his gorgeous long coat, huge glowing smile, and affectionate heart, this handsome boy has spent his entire life being loved—and now he's looking for a family ready to make sure his next chapter is just as full of it! Born August 27, 2020, Zeus is 6 years old, weighs approximately 56.4 lbs, and is believed to be a Border Collie/Golden Retriever mix. He has lived with the same owner his entire life and is being surrendered through no fault of his own. Zeus has been very well cared for, and finding a home that will love him just as deeply is incredibly important to everyone who knows him! He's smart, affectionate, playful, and fairly quiet, with an easygoing side that makes him just as happy relaxing with his people as he is heading outside for some fun. He can be a little reserved when first getting to know someone, but give him a little time and you'll discover the biggest snuggle bug underneath all that beautiful fur. Once Zeus decides you're his person, personal space becomes optional. He loves belly rubs, massages, cuddles, and affection, and he's perfectly happy stretching his entire 56-lb body across his owner's lap as though he's still a tiny puppy. His smile seems to take over his entire face when he's happy, and it's almost impossible not to smile right along with him. Then bring out a ball and you'll see another side of Zeus. Fetch is one of his absolute favorite things. He loves spending time outside, running around, playing, and simply enjoying the fresh air alongside his person. In his familiar environment, Zeus does wonderfully without a leash. He doesn't try to take off, stays connected to his owner, and responds when called. A home with a backyard where he can continue enjoying that freedom would be a wonderful fit for him. He's also an excellent car passenger. His owner's vehicle doesn't have traditional back seats, so Zeus is accustomed to riding in a more open setup and handles car rides without any issues. And despite that luxurious long coat, grooming doesn't have to be an ordeal—Zeus does well with both bathing and grooming. Zeus has spent his life as part of a pack, but meeting unfamiliar dogs is something he's still building confidence with. During his behavior assessment, being introduced to several new dogs of different sizes and personalities became a little overwhelming. Rather than escalating when he was uncomfortable, Zeus consistently chose to create distance and calmly remove himself from the situation. That's an important part of who Zeus is. He's a conflict-avoidant dog who would rather walk away than argue. Interestingly, our small dog brought out more curiosity in him. Zeus voluntarily approached, sniffed, and showed interest in getting acquainted—more engagement than he offered some of the other unfamiliar dogs. He's accustomed to living around other dogs, but new canine friendships should happen slowly and thoughtfully, allowing Zeus to build confidence at his own pace. Continued positive socialization would help him become more comfortable meeting new dogs without overwhelming him. Zeus could potentially share his forever home with the right canine companion, but he doesn't need a house full of new dog friends to be happy. A respectful dog and thoughtful introduction would be much more his style than being thrown into a busy, high-energy pack. Cats, however, are not a match for Zeus, so his forever home will need to be feline-free. His leash manners are another area where a little continued practice will go a long way. Zeus is accustomed to having plenty of freedom outdoors, so structured leash walking isn't quite as natural to him yet. He's an intelligent boy, though, and with consistency and positive practice, he has plenty of potential to polish those skills. Zeus also experiences some separation anxiety. He has spent all six years of his life with the same owner and familiar pack, so losing everything he has always known will understandably be a significant transition. His new family should be prepared to give him patience, consistency, and reassurance while he learns that his new home and people aren't going anywhere. What Zeus really wants from life isn't complicated. Throw the ball. Rub the belly. Let him enjoy the backyard. Take him along for a car ride. Let all 56 lbs of him climb into your lap when he decides it's cuddle time. And when he flashes that enormous Zeus smile at you, you'll understand exactly why this boy is so loved. Zeus isn't starting over because he did something wrong. He's simply a well-loved dog whose circumstances have changed, and now he needs someone willing to give him the security of belonging to a family again. I found Loki at the beginning of August 2025. He was just a puppy. I lived in the desert at the time. It was 107° outside and I could not leave him out there. He is sweet, friendly, loves all people, children and adults. He also loves all other dogs. He has never been aggressive towards anything. He loves to play. He has some separation anxiety and tends to attach himself to a specific person. I had to move from a house to an apartment. He needs more attention and obedience training thanni can give him. I live with my daughter and my 5 month old granddaughter. The situation is creating a really bad relationship issue betweem myself and my daughter, especially with the small apartment living. Loki is so sweet and loving but tends to be a little rambunctious at times. I can't stand the thought of him being locked in a cage. He would be so happy to be around other people and dogs. I just want him to be happy and as unconfused as possible. Thank you for your time!
