Story
Montana is an affectionate 4-year-old Lab/Pit mix who’s ready to be your loyal companion for life. This sweet girl is a fetch fanatic who lives for playtime and loves nothing more than chasing balls with her favorite humans. She’s both treat and toy motivated and ready to learn new tricks. Montana gets along fine with other dogs, but she’s truly a people-focused pup who wants to be your number-one play partner. On a recent Doggie Day Out adventure, she proved to be a calm car passenger and a wonderful trail companion. She enjoys sniffy walks and likes to lead the way without pulling on the leash. Though Montana can be a little shy when meeting new people, she warms up quickly with patience (and a few tasty treats). Once she feels comfortable, she enjoys gentle petting and cuddle time with her friends. If you can toss a tennis ball, you’re already in her inner circle! Montana was placed on final because shelter life has become overwhelming for her. Repeated encounters with unfamiliar people reaching into her kennel have left her feeling uneasy, and she may growl or show her teeth to ask for space. But outside the kennel, Montana’s true personality shines—sweet, playful, and full of love. Montana will thrive in a calm, patient home that gives her time to decompress and build trus ##2599337##

WOOF! I'M ROCCO! I'm a 2-year-old Border Collie-Flat-Coat mix in need of a foster or forever home! I was recently rescued from a crowded California shelter, where I was impounded as a stray. I then was adopted, but returned less than 24 hours later as someone in the house had allergies. Fortunately I was rescued and now am ready for a foster or forever home! I have done great with other dogs and am a happy, playful boy. I love to play with other dogs and hang out with humans. I weigh 59 lbs. Could you foster or adopt me? I'm currently in California but can be transported to Oregon. Please email for an application.

Story
Meet Ladybug 🐞Ladybug is a 6-year-old red Heeler with a story that has left her heart a little broken. Her beloved human became ill, went into acute care, and sadly passed away. During that time, Ladybug was left alone at home for nearly two months, with only brief visits for food. By the time she came to us, she was living in fear and survival mode. At her lowest point, we couldn’t safely touch her.So, we slowed down. Two dedicated staff members began sitting quietly outside her kennel each day—no pressure, no expectations—just calm, steady presence. For three weeks, they simply existed alongside her, offering patience, consistency, and silent companionship. And slowly… Ladybug began to trust again.Eventually, she allowed them to enter her space. Then came a collar. A leash. And finally, a walk outside to feel the fresh air again.Ladybug has made wonderful strides in recent weeks. She is becoming more comfortable being handled by shelter staff, and the circle of people she trusts continues to grow, with more staff now able to safely work with her. She can go in and out of her kennel, enjoy walks, and even accept affection. While Ladybug is making great progress, healing is not always linear. Some days she may regress a little or be more unpredictable as she continues to adjust. She needs a patient, understanding person who will give her the time and grace she needs to keep building confidence. We know finding the right home for Ladybug won’t be easy. But we also know she deserves it.She is looking for a very special person—someone compassionate, steady, and willing to meet her exactly where she is: scared, unsure, and still learning that the world can be safe again. With time, we believe she can become the loving, loyal companion she once was.The shelter is also very open to a foster-to-adopt situation so Ladybug can decompress outside of the shelter and show you who she truly is in a home environment. Once she’s out of the chaos, her loving and loyal side really comes through. If you have the heart and patience to give Ladybug the second chance she deserves, please reach out to Pam at the shelter.Let’s help Ladybug find her way home.Due to COVID-19, we are currently only open by appointment. Please follow the instructions on each pet profile.

Meet Oliver — a beautiful Blue Merle Mini Aussie with a sensitive soul and a heart that’s worth the wait. Oliver can be very shy when meeting new people and needs a patient adopter who will allow him the time and space to build trust at his own pace. Fast introductions and busy environments can feel overwhelming for him, but with kindness, consistency, and understanding, Oliver blossoms into an incredibly loyal and loving companion.Oliver is looking for a calm, predictable home where he can feel safe and secure. He would do best with gentle older children or, ideally, an adult-only home that can respect his sensitive nature. Once he bonds with his people, he forms deep connections and loves being close to those he trusts.Like many Aussies, Oliver enjoys regular exercise and mental enrichment to help keep him happy and balanced. Because he has never been properly socialized with other dogs, he would do best as the only dog in the home where he can have all the attention and avoid stressful interactions.Oliver may take a little extra time to open his heart, but for the right person, the bond you build with him will be incredibly special and rewarding. If you are interested in meeting Oliver, the shelter is open Monday through Saturday, 11 am – 6 pm, Sunday 11 am-4 pm (Summer Hours). If you’d like to schedule an appointment, check out the pets’ profile on our website at newberganimals.com to fill out an application and email it to frontdesk@newberganimals.com.Due to COVID-19, we are currently only open by appointment.
