Story
STABBED BY HIS OWNER, NOW HES ALL ALONE Rescue preferred This is not the life Buster deserves to be living Buster came to the shelter in July after being stabbed by his owner with a sword. He was seen by an offsite vet, his owner was arrested, and he has been here as evidence ever since. His owner’s case was dismissed due to a lack of evidence (unfortunately), and Buster is now FINALLY able to leave the shelter after being cooped up in a kennel for over FIVE MONTHS. We prefer that Buster goes to a rescue, as we do not want Buster to ever have to go back to the person who did this to him— he deserves better. He deserves love. Buster’s story is sad, but please do not bring him into your home unprepared just because his story tugs at your heart. Anyone who takes Buster home needs to be prepared for a long and potentially rocky and frustrating decompression process. Being in a shelter for so long is not easy and takes a toll on a dog’s psyche (and behaviors). He needs space and grace to heal. Currently, Buster’s mind is all over the place so it takes him a bit to connect with people because he is just too overwhelmed. He needs someone who understands that it may not be love at first sight. Someone patient who will not necessarily shower him with love but will give him structure, boundaries, and a safe place to rest his bones. Buster seems to want to be with dogs, but again, he needs to decompress. He lacks manners and shows some dominant behaviors, possibly due to how stressed he is. We cannot say for sure how his opinion of dogs and behaviors toward them will change once he is in a home, but currently he would do best with SLOW intros (decompression!!!!) and a tolerant, friendly dog. ##2619651##

Story
Montana is an affectionate 4-year-old Lab/Pit mix who’s ready to be your loyal companion for life. This sweet girl is a fetch fanatic who lives for playtime and loves nothing more than chasing balls with her favorite humans. She’s both treat and toy motivated and ready to learn new tricks. Montana gets along fine with other dogs, but she’s truly a people-focused pup who wants to be your number-one play partner. On a recent Doggie Day Out adventure, she proved to be a calm car passenger and a wonderful trail companion. She enjoys sniffy walks and likes to lead the way without pulling on the leash. Though Montana can be a little shy when meeting new people, she warms up quickly with patience (and a few tasty treats). Once she feels comfortable, she enjoys gentle petting and cuddle time with her friends. If you can toss a tennis ball, you’re already in her inner circle! Montana was placed on final because shelter life has become overwhelming for her. Repeated encounters with unfamiliar people reaching into her kennel have left her feeling uneasy, and she may growl or show her teeth to ask for space. But outside the kennel, Montana’s true personality shines—sweet, playful, and full of love. Montana will thrive in a calm, patient home that gives her time to decompress and build trus ##2599337##

Story
We adopted Anna from the shelter in fall of 2024. She has overall been a pretty great dog all things considered. We are choosing to re-home her for a couple of reasons: 1st my roommate and I are planning to move out and neither of us will be able to take care of her by ourselves. 2nd she has a lot of energy, and needs to go out often. Our home doesn't have a yard so that means we have to walk her often and we just can't keep up. I wouldn't recommend someone without a yard take her. 3rd is she just needs some more time for training. Overall she has been very good but she gets a little anxious when left alone, and likes to jump to indicate she wants to play. We really just want her to have a good home. For house training she was good for a while but has had a couple accidents. We think due to not enough outside chances but she was good for months just a couple recent accidents to be known about.

Story
Little Foot is Sponsored by A FriendMeet Little Foot 🐾Little Foot is an adorable mixed breed pup (we’re guessing Border Collie with a splash of either Corgi or Spaniel) with a gentle soul and a heart that’s even bigger than his ears. He’s missing all of the toes on his front left foot, but don’t let that fool you — Little Foot gets around just fine and doesn’t let it slow him down. The vet indicates he was likely born missing the toes or had a very early injury in life. This sweet boy had a rough start to life, so he can be a very shy when you first meet him. Give him a bit of time, patience, and kindness, and you’ll quickly see his true personality shine. Once he warms up, Little Foot is incredibly affectionate, loving, and eager to be close to his people.Little Foot would thrive in a calm, understanding home that’s ready to show him how good life can be. In return, he’ll give you quiet loyalty, gentle affection, and the kind of love that only a dog who’s been through a lot can offer. If you’re looking for a special pup with a resilient spirit and a whole lot of love to give, Little Foot might just be your perfect match. 💙If you are interested in meeting Little Foot, the shelter is open Tuesday through Saturday 11am – 5pm, Sunday 11am-4pm (Winter Hours). If you’d like to schedule an appointment, check out the pets’ profile on our website at newberganimals.com to fill out an application and email to frontdesk@newberganimals.com.Due to COVID-19, we are currently only open by appointment. Please follow the instructions on each pet profile.
