Gertrude is a very sweet old girl looking for a home to live out her life. We received a call from HAWS in Wisconsin about a cat that chipped back to AOS. Gertie is estimated at 14 years old but has much time to still spend with her people. She doesn't play much but loves to sit on her foster mom's lap and the heating vent. She refuses to use any type of cat bed, pillow, or blanket and prefers to sleep on the wood floor. When Gertrude came to AOS she was in pretty bad shape. She has scaring on her right cornea and we know she has very limited, if any sight in that eye. She had an upper respiratory infection, urinary tract infection, had to amputate 5 inches of her tail, fleas, lungworm, and had to have a tooth removed. Gertie's left eye was not doing well with a possible foreign object/corneal abrasion and had to be removed. Gertie knows her foster mom's voice and footsteps as she will come to the foster room door and is waiting for "mom" as soon as she opens the door. She definitely knows the sound of opening a can of food! It took a bit for Gertie to trust and show affection to her foster mom but that could also be attributed to the amount of pain she was in when she first went there. She has never been mean or aggressive, just standoffish. Gertie does not seem to get along with cats; dogs unknown; children unknown but possibly older children who understand that she is older and cannot see well.

Hi, this is Nova! We found her when she was only about 4 weeks old, abandoned in a box in the woods near Waukegan. From the start she has been such a fighter and turned into the most playful, curious little cat. Unfortunately, I recently had to bring my dog home from my parents after he became paralyzed, and Nova and my dog do not get along, so I need to find her a loving home where she can truly be comfortable and happy. She would do best in a home where she can be the main pet or around animals she gets along with she did well with cats when she was younger I am not sure about now There is no adoption fee I would like to make sure she goes to a serious, loving home, and I also have pet supplies I can send with her to help her settle in.
