Meet Rambo! She and her four siblings got a heroic start in life when some wonderful Heartland supporters spotted them outside and gave them a safe place to land. After getting some love and pampering in their finder's care, they made their way to us, spent time blossoming in a fantastic foster home, and are now officially back at the shelter! They’ve had quite the journey, but these beautiful babies are ready for a quiet home that will allow them to come out of their shells at their own pace. Here is what their foster mom has to say about her: "She came in as a stray to Heartland and she was very scared at first. You couldn't touch her or be close to her without hissing and she was always hiding. The good news is that in foster care, she has made a little progress. Rambo gets along with all of her siblings -- plays with every toy! Springs, ping pong balls, cat wands and feathers, laser light and any other toy she can get her paws on. She has enjoyed the cat trees, scratchers and tunnels! She has just started to come join her siblings in making biscuits -- while she is doing this, she welcomes being pet. All over body pets and will give you her belly for some extra. She has been enjoying the community fluffy, furry cat bed. Rambo does not like to be picked up. She is still very shy when she is approached. She hisses a lot - but it is just her 'talking' -- if you get her to lay down and pet her, she will give in and begin to enjoy. She will come right up to you with a churro treat in your hand -- she will lick it off of your finger -- she doesn't bite when she is doing this. She is used to having videos on or music. She will need time to trust her person -- strongly suggest to start her in a small room and spend time with her. She will begin to trust you before you give her the whole house." Rambo is spayed and up-to-date on her FVRCP and Rabies vaccines. She is currently staying at our Heartland Facility! Meet Leah! Leah is a soft and gentle gray and white girl who was turned into Chicago Animal Care and Control at the end of March because her owners could no longer take care of her. She came to Heartland and we were so happy that we could help her out. She is still a little on the shy side, but she has been slowly coming around and decompressing. Leah would love nothing more than to find a loving home to call her own! She is spayed, up-to-date on her FVRCP and Rabies vaccines, and she is FIV and FeLV negative. Found braving the outdoors as a stray mama cat, she was brought to Chicago Animal Care and Control by a good Samaritan alongside her sweet litter of kittens. Her babies have all blossomed and moved on to their forever homes, and now it’s finally Tempest’s turn to be spoiled! The Quiet Observer: Coming from the busy outdoor world into shelter life was a big adjustment, and Tempest had a bit of a slow start. She prefers to take her time, assess her surroundings, and move at her own pace. Making Daily Progress: Every single day, Tempest shows us a little more of who she really is. She’s coming out of her shell step-by-step—learning that soft blankets, predictable routines, and gentle hands are things she can rely on. Sweet & Soulful: Beneath her cautious exterior lies a deeply loving cat who just wants a peaceful place to feel safe. Watching her trust grow is one of the most rewarding experiences you could ask for. Tempest would thrive in a quiet, patient home where she can continue her journey at her own speed.
