Come meet me at our adoption event at Tails on the Trails at Hansen Park in New Brighton on Sunday, 10/8 from 12pm-2:30! Age: Approximately 2.5 years old Weight: 7.5 lbs Dog friendly: Yes Cat friendly: Yes Kid friendly: Yes Potty trained: Very close! Still has a few accidents Crate trained: No, does not like the crate, but does well being left loose if alone Betty here! I’m a petite (7.5 pound), loving, energetic little smarty pants. I took one day to learn my name, two days to figure out the indoor potty, and a week to find and use the cat door (so that’s where those giant kitties were going to avoid me! We’re buddies now, as long as they don’t take my treats or my foster mom’s lap). I’m working on some commands—leave it, lie down, up-up, potty—but sometimes I’m too excited to listen. It’s only been a few weeks in my foster home, and now that I’m getting attached to my humans, I’m guarding them vigilantly, whether they like it or not. My foster mom says I’ll relax with time, love, and consistency, and it’s true that the potential murderers outside my house have turned out to be awesome neighbors (did I tell you I have a fan club? LOTS of kids in it!). She also says my occasional indoor potty confusion (I mean, what’s the difference between a potty pad and the front door mat, really?) will resolve with time, and that my family will be soooo happy when winter comes and my long, impossibly thin legs don’t have to take miserably cold walks every day. That said, I adore walks! Pretty sure I’ve got some tiny terrier mixed in with my obvious chihuahua, because I’m obsessed with squirrel hunting: I sniff out trails, “point,” and tree squirrels. I even climbed a tree once, so please don’t count on a fence of any height to keep me contained. Foster mom can get me to continue the walk with “leave it” and a treat, and there are so many other smells to explore. The only thing I love more than walks is being under covers, and I mean ALL THE WAY under the covers, ideally by a human, all day and night. Cars are just fine, too, as long as a human reassures me once in a while and I have covers to snuggle under. The only thing I can’t bear is being separated from my beloved humans, so crates and closed doors really upset me, especially at sleeping time (I do very well on my doggy bed while foster mom works from home). I can be left loose in the house for a few hours without any drama, but I’m beside myself when the humans return! I might eventually work out in an apartment where somebody’s at work all day, but honestly I’d prefer no shared walls and a situation with a human home most of the time if possible. With time, I can see myself going to dog-friendly restaurants, traveling, and generally being with you everywhere! What do you think—are you ready for Betty White to be your BFF?
