Riley, thought to be born in January or February of 2015 is a tricolor, smooth coat collie/border collie mix with some brindle markings on his legs. He has experienced 2 failed adoptions. He was adopted from us when he was about 6 months old and was returned to us 3 years later when the male member of the adoptive family, who had Alzheimer’s, became abusive toward him. In time he began developing his self-confidence again and began to lose his fear of men. Even though he was still somewhat leery of men he didn’t know, he would actually seek attention from men with whom he was familiar. He got along well with the dogs in his foster home but he behaved aggressively toward any new foster dog that periodically come in. He is not good with cats as he showed aggression toward the clinic cat at our vet’s office. Riley was adopted a second time, but after a year of trying different techniques to manage Riley’s difficult behaviors his second adopter felt that she could no longer handle him and once again Riley was returned to us. He left us weighing 55 pounds and returned, markedly overweight, at 78 pounds. He is now back to a healthy weight. Riley has had extensive training. He is quite smart and learns quickly. He rides well in a car and walks well on a leash unless he meets a dog while out on the walk, in which case he will pull and act aggressively. Riley is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, is heartworm negative and is being kept on heartworm and flea and tick prevention to maintain his good health. Riley is currently in Arkansas. His adoption donation is $415 which includes the $165 transport fee. If you would like to adopt Riley, the first step in the adoption process is to fill out an online adoption application. We sometimes receive a lot of interest on an animal and can't always reply to each email in a timely manner. During this time your vet reference will be checked and a volunteer with determine if it is the best match for you and the animal. Applications are not approved on a first come, first serve basis. We match up the best home for the animal, so even if the pet has other applications, this does not mean he/she will be adopted to that home. My name is Rosie and I am 60 lbs and 3 years old. I am a young adult - great age and out of the puppy stages! ASCZ definitely thinks I have heeler in me; watch my video - my gait and the way I play says "heeler." Probably some Border Collie too and maybe a touch of Shepherd. There is something in there that is keeping me a bit fluffier than a typical heeler/BC. Either way, I am awesome. I am housebroken and crate-trained. I am active and I love to run around the yard. I have been good with all the dogs I have met. I do not think I would have any issue with children; however, I might get excited and knock them over but that's about the extent of my worry! We would suggest 8+. I am independent but also affectionate. I walk well on leash too! If you like nice long walks, I could totally be your partner! This baby and her siblings were born under a porch by a stray and the land owners could not take care of them. We were told the mother was a cattle dog, dad a collie. Vixen is very outgoing and fun! She is not afraid to greet strangers and give love. She can be a bit of a talker but not too much... She is such a sweet girl and would do well in any household as long as she is given attention and time to play. She will need all the basic puppy training and leash work. This girl and her sister were surrendered due to their owner not having any time for them. Gypsy is a sweet girl who takes a bit to warm up. She was protective of her sister at first but after some talks and treats, she is the sweetest girl! She is full of playful energy and will need an active family. She is with other puppies her age and size, does very well with them. She hasn't been around bigger dogs so she would need a supervised introduction. She will also need all the puppy training and does do well in a crate. She should adjust pretty well to any new routine but will need to learn cat manners if there are any. CAMMIE is a sweet, calmer but playful 2 year old Australian Cattle Dog/Red Tick Hound mix who wants to please her humans. An adopter who will give her love, attention and spend time with her, including her in their lives, would be the best fit. She has a good calm medium energy level where she's up for adventures with her people but also knows how to relax at times. Cammie would be a great hiking, jogging and/or daily walking partner. She loves affection from her people, food and chasing squirrels. Cammie is housetrained & crate trained. She is dog friendly, but also can be the only dog in your home. She is not a fan of other dogs around her food, but has no issues with people near her food. She is child friendly, but due to her playfulness and size, we are recommending older children. Cammie sleeps through the night on her own bed or in her crate in her foster's room. Cammie walks well on leash without pulling, but will need more work for off leash recall. She's completely trustworthy left alone unattended outside of her crate!! Cammie rarely gets on the furniture, is not a jumper and does not have a hyper energy. She is not a big barker, but will alert you to strangers outside the house, especially if they have dogs with them. Cammie is a quick learner, treat motivated and has picked up some basic commands 'sit, go home, no' and would be happy to learn more. Due to prey drive, she will not be adopted to a home with cats or small critters. Apartments can be considered if the adopter has an active lifestyle and will get her out for daily exercise. A very pregnant Mama Birdie was found wandering the streets of Bastrop, TX, last October and taken into rescue. On 11/3/2023 she gave birth to a litter of Cattle Dog/Dachshund mix puppies. Blue is one of those pups who still needs to find a forever home. Blue is now in a foster home where he is learning what it means to live inside a house rather than in an outdoor setting. He has lived with dogs and cats and is fine with both. He rides well in a car without being crated. He is a super smart guy, especially since it only took him a week to learn to walk on the leash. You might need a harness along with the leash until he gets used to his new surroundings once he's adopted. But he will not go potty while leashed so it would be good for him to have a fenced yard. Blue does not like loud or sudden noises, especially when he can’t see where they are coming from or what is making the noise. He still has not made a single bark at anyone or anything! Poor Genevieve was found stuck in a culvert in Texas, unable to stand. She was rescued from that situation and sent to an animal shelter. NorthStar rescued her from that shelter and has taken her into their care. She has seen our vet who said the issue with her back legs is not serious. She just has an old spinal injury. She knows how to walk but isn’t totally aware currently of where her back legs are. Vet says it’s not degenerative. She has no other health issues and will be up for adoption soon. Genevieve is about 7 years old and weighs 30 pounds and she gets along well with other dogs.
